Are you interested to see just what's so different about the newly released, more polished version of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay compared to it's 5 year old counterpart? Then IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/907533/the-chronicles-of-riddick-assault-on-dark-athena/videos/riddick_spc_040609.html) has a video for YOU! If nothing else, it shows how well the original Xbox version has stood the test of time and the updated look has a much nicer lighting model. Check it out (http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/907533/the-chronicles-of-riddick-assault-on-dark-athena/videos/riddick_spc_040609.html).

I bought this game yesterday and I fucking love it. I've yet to play the Athena side of it though.

Another thing: The original version is pretty much unplayable on a 50'' HDTV, even with HD cables the jaggies are way too sharp. Which is why I'm so glad that Starbreeze decided to remake it with the new engine, while it doesn't look as good as Dark Athena *my brother's playing it right now* it still is damn sexy.

Do they do a comparison with the PC version? I own both the original Xbox and PC releases and the PC is nicer for the obvious reasons (resolution of both textures and screen), but also enhanced lighting, soft shadows, and extra levels.

wow. the original looks better to me, hands down. the gamma and brightness is screwed up in the new one. ugh.

Wow, the 2004 pc version looks a hell lot better than the older XBox version. Seems closer to Dark Athena.

Riddick was one of the best looking games on the xbox. I though that the new version was going to be better looking, but it's hard to see that in the comparison shots.

woah the original is included in the game? I got kind of far in it and want to finish it. This just turned into a buy game. =)

I just posted the other day in another Riddick thread that I didn't really think that the demo for Dark Athena looked significantly better than I remember Butcher Bay looking on the original Xbox. Of course, I played the first one on a standard def set, so I'm sure playing it using an Xbox 1.0 on a Hi-def display, it probably would suffer terribly from distortion if played with wide screen stretch or zoom.
But either way, it's no insult to Dark Athena to say it doesn't look THAT much better than the original Butcher Bay, because that game looked UNBELIEVABLE back in 2004--just blew me away with not only the story and voice-over work, but how crazy awesome it looked compared to anything else of the last console era.
