Kingdom Hearts II is coming out in Japan right about now, after scoring a near-perfect 39/40 in the Famitsu magazine, but unfortunately for Square Enix the game is already spreading like crazy on torrent websites.
Aside from that, the Kingdom Hearts II intro trailer (http://www.playfuls.com/news_4344_Kingdom_Hearts_II_Intro_Trailer_And_New_ Screenshots.html) has also made its way out in the Internet jungle, giving us a taste of what the 'FF VII: Advent Children' team came up with in terms of animation. And as for the gameplay, Square also released a new batch of screenshots (http://www.playfuls.com/gamespace_825_screenshots_Kingdom_Hearts_II.html), among others showing the new Tron world to be featured in the game.
All in all, I really can't think of anything that would prevent this game from having huge success, all over again.

The whole Square/Disney crossover scared me away for a while, but I finally got around to playing it about a year ago and I have to say... I really enjoyed it.

I picked the first one up used for $12.99USD and was pretty happy with my purchase. It's a cute game. And donald is useless.

I enjoyed the art style, but the gameplay sucked... Just my opinion.
It was really fun until you tried to use a spell or item. The whole scrolling through the menu in the thick of battle got tired fast.

One of the best "Ah, what the hell" purchases I've made (the first one, that is). I'm very much looking forward to the second.

I don't know, it seems even lighter on the Square-Enix characters than the first one. Going all-Disney ruins a lot of great possibilities. Toss in some Chronotrigger characters? Palom and Porom? It'd do a lot more to mix things up than revisiting the same Disney stories they hit in the first one.
Level design was the problem with the first, in my mind. Some of the levels worked, a lot really didn't. The camera issues were merely a symptom of really messed up levels.

I didn't like the game or the concept.
For whatever reason, I feel the same way about the game as I feel about games made from movies or television shows. Becuase they can't mess with the status quo there is little to no point to anything. If you've seen any of the disney movies, you already know what the problem is in terms of the worlds you visit... you already know how they're going to be solved... you already know who you are going to meet in each world... it was just boring. The only interesting thing was to see how Square made levels out of the Disney worlds, but I'd rather just see that in screen shots than have to play through it, which frankly was the most annoying part. Death to cutscenes... I'm begging...

I'm a little confused as to why you put Disney and Tron in separate categories there, but whatever. I can say that I enjoyed the first one... Save for my ever growing hatred of Lance Bass! Looking forward to second one though ^_^

Will there be more Gummi Ship sections? Because I'll just have to kill if so.

The only FF character I've of so far is Auron. Disney must be upping their investment this time around.
I doubt we'll see any characters from Squaresoft before 7, though I'd love to see Edge do some crazy Ninja shit.

I've refused to acknowledge the existance of Kingdom Hearts, they took my favorite series and mixed it with Disney.
Though, after X-2 and seeing where square is going with XII, I think I may have to bump my second favorite series (Dragon Quest) up to first...

Am I the only one that doesn't care about how a game looks or what the concept behind is if the game itself is really fun, like it appears to be according to early reports?

I refused to play the original one until a friend of mine lent it to me and I decided what the hell. It's a pretty solid game. I'm looking forward to the second one.

I didn't mind the disney cutesiness of the first game, I thought the style and graphics were very well done, it was the gameplay that was weak. I played through a decent portion of it, got bored and never went back.

What I don't get is why it takes so long for Kingdom Hearts 2 to come over to the states. Is it really so hard to translate a script while the game is in production so they can go for a simultanious release?

I dunno, would Jesus really be protrayed as a misunderstood antagonist? I think he'll be a summon.

I'd like KH so much more if I wasn't saddled with Donald and Goofy for the whole dang game, not to mention the dang Gummy ship. The original characters and FF characters were so much more interesting than the Disney characters, though the Disney setting and style was an amusing concept. I really don't care how many fangirls scream for KH, it was a good idea and pretty art muddled with some very poor execution and gameplay.
I'll probably force myself to finish KH before KH2 is released, but I'm somewhat dreading it. And the voice acting... oh the voice acting... any game that has Lance Bass as Sephiroth simply must not be. Why couldn't it be Square Enix meets Disney style in an all original setting? -- Track record of unoriginal stories not withstanding...

I don't know, Edge wasn't too well developed. If we have to pick a FF ninja, I'd go with Shadow and his dog Interceptor. One of FF6's more interesting characters, and easy to work into the story, with his "mercenary badass who floats in and out of the party as he pleases" thing.
If they really only have Auron, that'd be a severe disappointment. Square-Enix has a great chance to cultivate some of their past narratives into modern icons, and it'd be a shame to mess that up.
KH1 did some interesting stuff with FF7-10, but it was very lightweight, almost all of the plots were pure Disney. I won't have too much interest in KH2 if they move even further in that direction.

From what I've seen there are quite a few FF characters in KH2. Auron, Yuna, Rikku, Paine, Setzer (from FFVI), Vivi, Seifer, Raijin, Fuijin, Squall, Cid, Cloud, Yuffie, Aerith, and I think Vincent. Probably missing a few chars in that list as well.
It's not like this is a big game or anything.
It's a pretty cool idea and it had some really good graphics for it's time, but it was the poor gameplay that really pissed me off. It was just about smashing the X button and rolling. I played it for a while, got near the end, met the first boss I couldn't beat in one go, didn't feel like playing, and never went back.
What would really have been great would have been the ability to add the FF characters to your party, but alas, it was not to be.

If they fixed the camera and the magic menu I'll probably give it a shot. The art looks massively improved, to the point of maybe giving Wind-Waker a run for it's money.

Yeah I like shadow more too, just felt like picking a charactr from IV; plus, Edge's core personality is unique enough that they could develop it more if they wanted to.

Where did you see that about Setzer? It would be cool to see him (anyone from VI is a plus) but I think it would have been cooler to have Locke, Shadow, or Sabin. Still, Setzer is cool.
Man, they should add a mode where you can play as one of the FF characters. No turn-based battle system, just kick ass using (insert favorite FF character here).

O_o
Edge was far more developed than Shadow... Even if you got his secret side movies he was only a guy with a dog. You sound like you just like him becuase he was the "badass" charachter.
I really don't understand people interpreting "baditude" for charachterization.
"HE KILLED ALL THOSE PEOPLE AND... LIKE.. ACTED LIKE HE DIDN'T EVEN CARE! WHAT A GREAT CHARACHTER!!!"

Given the fact that my imagination tends to fill in the gaps with a more westernized version of the charachters, I'm not too keen on seeing those old charachters expounded upon. And effeminate looking Kain would ruin all of FFIV for me.

They should have Kefka be the evil genius manipulating everything in the Kingdom Hearts universe.
MWAHAHAHAHA! (http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/ff6/sounds/wav/kefka.wav)
I'm looking forward to KH2 though. I did enjoy the first one, although I got sick of the Olympus Arena after a while and I never did find that last dalmatian... stupid dogs...
Did anyone finish Chain Of Memories for the GBA? I'm about 3/4's of the way through it and would like to finish it up before KH2 comes out to see how well it bridges the two games. I've been working on it off and on for a year though and I still don't really care for the whole card-based battles, although they're not horrible. I'd just rather it be the FF-style menu system or an action style more like the original KH.
Actually, just make that a menu driven battle system. I loves me some menues.

I suggest you follow me in pursuit of the Mistwalker bandwagon. That's where the real Final Fantasy ended up.
What you see before you in FFX-2, FFXI, and FFXII are lies, my friend. Lies.
Oh, and I bought KH vowing it was only for the Square elements, but found that my childhood love for Disney - which I had adamantly sworn off in my preteen years - really did have some significance to it. It was kind of a heartwarming thing, to be completely frank, to see familiar characters and faces come back in a totally different - and very authentic - way.
