1 foot of snow the festivities had too be moved inside cause of the cold!!

About 1 percent energy reduction, not adjusted for weather, was logged from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., said ComEd spokeswoman Rachel Gerds. That is equivalent to saving about 100 megawatt hours, she said.

We would do much better if people would just do some of the suggestions listed here. 100 ways to save the environment. (http://www.seql.org/100ways.cfm)

Pick ten or twenty and do them consistently.

Yep, these events/hours/days are generally farces attended largely by well meaning but utterly ignorant people who mouth off on the environment a whole lot but don't do shit.

The two biggest energy savers that I go for are to walk to work and back every day (6 miles round trip) and wear a jumper instead of turning the heaters on unless it's all out freezing.

It helps also that I live in central London, so we only have 56 square meters for three people. It's just hard to burn that much power when you're as space limited as we are. Our fridge is so small that it's always packed efficiently.

My biggest sin is definitely my computer, but I'm a developer so I really do need a powerful PC to down my compile times and I always turn it off.

The last couple of years I've really tried to minimise my impact on the world where I can.

I saw a flyer the other day to have people turn on as many electronics as they could during the same "earth hour". It actually made me laugh out loud.

The other day, I saw a story about someone doing just that and I did not get it. It's one thing if, like Al Gore (http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/YeasandNays/Earth-lover-Gore-doesnt-love-Earth-Hour-42081362.html), you don't buy into all of the hype and don't feel like turning off your lights. But to go out of your way to turn them all on or - as in the case of the aforementioned story - actually setting up extra stage lights just for the event is just asinine. Not to mention potentially costly...you've just cut your nose to spite your face, at that point.

I turned on all the light in my house during Earth hour... and ran a blender and microwave. Fuck all those bandwagon environmentalists.

I missed earth hour this year, sucks. I typically turn all my to ON so i can help offset what these ass ponies are doing. Na i do leave my lights on though alot. I got these hanging lights in my kitchen on rails. 16 of em. aaaahahah when i turn them on my heat will NOT come on no matter how cold it is.

I have 30 bulbs in my living room/dining room/kitchen and lots of times i will crank them all on to change my mood during winter. I love lights/lighting its a hobby of mine.

An example of the law of unintended consequences right here. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090328/ap_on_re_us/bootleg_detergent)

Step one: Spokane, Washington recognizes the reality that phosphates pollute water.
Step Two: Spokane bans phosphates in dishwasher detergents. Sounds noble, doesn't it? :D
Step Three: The entire state of Washington bans phosphates beginning in 2010. Again, very noble. :D
Step Four: Spokane residents, using non-phosphate "green" detergents, find they leave behind grease, food, and grime on their dishes. They DO NOT WORK.
Step Five: Spokane residents drive to Idaho (Did you catch that? DRIVE to Idaho) to buy phosphate-based detergents that actually work.

Result: People still use phosphate-based detergents, Spokane (and soon Washington state) lose sales taxes from detergent sales, and the environment suffers from MORE CAR USAGE, leading to more gasoline use and the attendant pollution that occurs as a result.

The Precautionary Principle applies. What idiots.
