Battle For Middle-Earth 2 takes part in the North where a battle is raging between Sauron's forces vs. elves and dwarves. It will be possible to create/customize your own hero, apart from known figures such as Arwin, and become more powerful as you progress in the game. While BFME was all land based, the sequel will also take the action on the sea, naval battles included.
Wage war in the North and assume command of the most storied civilizations in all of Middle-earth history – the Elven and Dwarven armies – or fight on the side of Evil with heroes and creatures that have never been seen in The Lord of the Rings films. Defend or overtake never before seen lands such as Dol Guldur, The Misty Mountains, and Mirkwood as you unleash powerful new weapons and abilities - summon dragons, cause volcanoes to erupt, or bring down a cataclysmic lightning strike.

Arvin Slone says, "Stop making LOTR games or I'll have my agents kill you dead!"
I played the first one and didn't like it at all. Generally just a very bad game and very very boring. Hurrah for bland painfully linear and repetitive strategy games with high production values that are next gen when compared only to strategy games made in the late 90's.
I mean ffs read that feature list, it's got features on there that their heralding as selling points when they've been in RTS's for years. I wanted those features in the FIRST ONE.
Risk style map? who cares. I think i'll wait for the LotR Rome: Total War mod instead.

I was sold when I saw that Tom Bombadil was a playable hero.

You're the kind of guy EA love.

Oh fucks yeah!
Also, I played the first too for a few days. Beat the single player campaign, but I was really disappointed by the multiplayer. It just felt like it was trying to catch up to Warcraft 3 or any standard Warcraft-esque RTS but trying to do "neato" things, and not doing it right.
I kept thinking, whilst playing, that my units didn't seem to carry any weight... at all... and that my base didn't either. The whole world just kind of seemed very bland, which was totally lame, as it's fucking Lord of the Rings!

The trailer just didn't do it for me. I am much more excited about Rise of Legends.

I agree, didn't really play the first one that much, might pic this up but Its hard to find a good RTS that isn't DoW. Though I am looking forward to Rise of Legends alot too.

What about Act of War? That RTS is brilliant.

The first one was awful. The only thing that was good about it is that they had the lotr license. So they could show movie clips. I wish relic or the guys who made rome total war would have gotten the rights.
EA really fucked up the first one. Anyone who is thinking about getting this one, dont trust the reviews trust the gamers, because the first one sucked, and this one is bound to suck. Oh wow customizable heros and new lands. Errrrr I think wc3 already does that.
When you get gandalf the white to level 10 and just use his staff move, it is pretty much gg. When I played single player he was all i needed because his staff move could kill every guy on the screen.
I lost all faith in EA making a decent RTS.

From what I've read, he's not a playable hero. He's a summon, sort of like the Balrog in part 1.
Anyways, I can't wait for this game. The last game you had to command your armies like they do in the movie script, now they give you this huge map of middle earth and you can do whatever you want to take control of it. Very awesome stuff.
