FileFront has put up some new shaky cam footage (http://files.filefront.com/gearsofwar+zerohourwmv/;4466258;;/fileinfo.html) of the Gears of War presentation that took place at the XBOX 360 launch event, Zero Hour. The footage shows actual gameplay from this tactical, squad based combat game that's being developed by Epic Games.

The game is based on the Unreal 3 engine, and as such, is jawdropping gorgeous. The gameplay is looking like it's shaping up to match the graphical fidelity of the title, making GoW something to watch out for.

This game may very well be the Halo of the XBOX 360.

I wish they'd show some NEW gameplay footage. All the new footage in this trailer is from some cutscene. The actual gameplay is the same choppy stuff they've been showing for a year now!

I was excited, but I'm getting less and less with each new remix of the same footage!

C'mon CliffyB, stop doing interviews and your hair and finish the game! :D

Halo3 will be the HALO for the 360 although currently HALO2 is.

Didn't I hear that before?

oh yeah, PD:0!

Everytime I read the "360's Halo" comments I realize that whoever said them didn't understand why Halo was so successful. It's very unlikely that Epic can put out something as accessible as Bungie did. They certainly haven't demonstrated that restraint thus far (UC2, I'm looking at you).

Hey, man, let them have their wishful thinking.

I agree 100%.

Halo wasn't halo because of it's graphics. People who look at GoW and say it's the new Halo are jumping the gun, I would say. This game has gone far past a reasonable level of hype. Looking past the visuals and at it's gameplay structure (which is what anyone should be looking at. Remember Fable?) I'm seeing something that will probaly score in the mid 80's... and that's assuming everything ELSE goes right.

Please let me be wrong, but I'm not counting on it.

Halo also wouldn't be what it is without MS's rather heavy marketing behind it (not bashing Halo, it's a fine game). If MS pushed it hard enough, it'd come close, but that'd require them owning the IP before they'd commit to that (which they might, I don't know) and it'd be somewhat robing peter to pay paul (since taking any Halo sales, if it did, would make it a less effective viability proof).

Halo was successful because nobody new about it. They had no or very little preconceived notions and the game hit several highs with the average gamer. GoW is already expected to give players an orgasm every time they play...so it will already be a disappointment. Unfortunately, the same happened to PD0. That game rocks when you don't try to compare it to Halo/Halo 2. I love PD0 but went into it not expecting it to be Halo/Halo 2. In someways, the multiplayer is much better than Halo.

But that is just my opinion. GoW is already doomed to disappoint because of the hype surrounding it. I'm glad MS is keeping quiet about the real Halo killer, Halo 3.

....but between you and me, Webzen's Huxley is going to be a monster when it releases!!

Actually, Halo had a pretty impressive amount of pre-release hype and marketing for a non-IP driven title. Halo 2 had the largest marketing campaign I've ever seen for a video game.

I'm thinking that this will be one of the best 3rd person shooters I've ever played, but then again thats just me.

Theres plenty of gameplay videos at gamespot. I also have faith that Epic will make another AAA title. I could be wrong, but I'm hoping I'm not.

6 minutes! :)

Edit: Maybe I just get to excited when I hear/read the interviews where they talk about the gameplay mechanics, and yes...I've been know to fall for hype. (C&C: Tiberian Sun was the first time)

I actually dislike him quite a bit, whenever hes on camera for any reason anywhere hes always posing...hes a little full of himself.

He is a deuche bag, I cant stand the guy. There is a reason why programers don't have there own shows no matter how popular they are.

My opinion of Cliffy B aside ( who in their right mind would allow themselves to be called Cliffy B) the deuche definately has some talent and I am really looking foward to GoW.

I guess maybe that's why I'm not particularly hyped about it. I haven't been a fan of anything Epic has done since they dropped the "Megagames" surname. I'm not a fan of the homoerotic Epic way of making games about big beefy men with humongously oversized guns shooting and cussing and blood lusting. That, plus their engines seem, in my humble opinion, to emphasise flash over substance. They're like "oooh oooh oooh! Let's make pretty ornate stained glass windows!!!!... that you can't shoot through." and "OH! Let's make cool set pieces that you can't jump on or crawl through!!!" It LOOKS like you're in an old broken down castle... but when you play the game and begin to see the underlying geometry, it's just a rectangular romper room.

That's just my opinion. I know lots of people swear by Unreal.

This game looks like it would be somewhat boring to play, at least at times. The "taking cover" system is interesting, but when you combine that with a literal "rail shooter" (the part in the mines) this looks more like the old Rebel Assault games than a modern third-person shooter.

Ladies and Gentleman, witness the power of hype and a couple of screenshots.I see you didn't make it to the word "Footage" in the headline.

Well, that makes sense then. People like to pick at Final Fantasy, but to me, Unreal Tournament is 10x more gay flavored.

Two and a half years before anybody knew what the fuck an XBOX was, I was watching a trailer for Halo on my Ultimate Gamer monthly disk.

I knew about it and even played it on an alpha kit the E3 before it was released. I was like "analog stick, you have to hit X to pick up a weapon?" no thanks.

Little did I know then...

Yeah, I had a trailer on my computer for ages from way back when Halo was headed for Macs and not to PC's.
