Rockstar has announced, via Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5180253/max-payne-3-hits-this-winter), that Max Payne 3 is currently in production and is scheduled to hit this winter.
The sequel, in development by Rockstar Vancouver, will tell the story of a retired police detective "embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence."
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
I don't know about anyone else, but this is excellent news to me.

I didn't think it was possible for Max to be more cynical. Excellent news though.

So good to see they're exploring a new direction with the story! :D

This is the best gaming news I have heard in a long, long time! Instant-buy for me at least (as long as they Steam it) :D

I got to nitpick the quote a bit, sounds like the only Max we've ever seen. regardless i'm glad there is another max payne, even though I hated the story in 2. The movie was extremely boring too, not that it probably has anything to do with the game's potential but it left me with a sour taste for all things Max Payne.

Hm, I doubt it'll end up like say...the Rainbow Six series (I weep for the memory), it's always been a very simple to play FPS, so there's not much to be dumbed down that I can think of, mechanics wise.

Max Payne 1 and 2 were both released on consoles. Why will it somehow ruin the series by having the third one on consoles too?

Controls were doo-doo on the consoles, but I think those lessons have been learned. Anyway, this game is coming out quickly, shouldn't they have some footage or screenshots or something? Otherwise maybe winter seems optimistic. RS Vancouver made Bully, so I'm hopeful

They were developed for PC (and ported to consoles), this one is developed for consoles (and ported to PC). I'm not even hopeful, I know they are going to ruin the atmosphere, gameplay, story or something completely and I blame consoles, whether it's consoles fault or not.

This winter? Hah, don't think so. Maybe Winter 2015, and that's being liberal.

I understand from the news that Max Payne 3 is not being developed by Remedy and Alan Wake is, so there is your answer :)

You're right. A shooter could never work on a console. Except the ones that do.
It's alright to not sit so close, fell. I won't tell anyone.

This is full of win. I have been waiting for another Max Payne. I thought they had given up on the franchise.

Wow, he doesn't look ANYTHING like Max on that pic. More like Sam Fisher from the newest (cancelled?) Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Can't wait, though.

Took me by total surprise.
the Max Payne series was a pretty damn fun shooter. Maybe a little more realism would be nice, (guys should never take 10+ shotgun blasts to the chest before dying) but other than that.. rock on!

I'm not sure realism would fit in a game where you can enter bullet time, or whatever the hell was the Miles Teg like ability Max had in the second game.
No Remedy involved in this doesn't fill me with confidence though.

Should we be scared or excited that there was no hype machine on this title before now...

Max Payne 2: He shot some more dudes and popped some more pills in between cheesy graphic novel style cut scenes.

You forgot to tell him about the part when the building is blowing up where you could jump out of a hole in the wall to your death for some physics fun on scaffolding below. Extra points for a wracking your nuts.

I thought I was the only one conned into reading Chapterhouse.
Cautiously Optimistic as well. I enjoyed both games. I thought 2 was the perfect evolution of the title. Everything was there and worked better than the first. I enjoy Noir so the game just works for me. Definitely leary of Remedy not being involved. I doubt the game will be bad, but don't think it'll have the draw of the former games.

You might be able to get through the second one if you found the Mona nude patch.. the best texture user made texture I've seen. Hubba hubba.

wow.. triple post. My memory is going. It wasn't a user made hack.. it was in the game to begin with. And it doesn't hold up as well I remember either.

Make a shortcut to the game and add '-developerkeys' like:
\Rockstar Games\Max Payne 2\MaxPayne2.exe" -developerkeys
Once the game is started then scroll through the various charaters you can play as using the page up or page down keys. You'll see around 20 or more and eventually you'll get to a nude Mona.

I'm really looking forward to Alan Wake, but I can't help but wish that Max3 was being made by Remedy. It will be interesting to see what another studio does with the title.

Max 2 was kind of weak, but I'd be on board for another trip through glumsville.
He is the most cynical fictional character of all time. He's like Eeyore with an edge.

Yup and I see the console fanatics are already putting the pitch to you for it but fuck 'em, I agree with ya. Max Payne ended when Remedy sold it.
Who the fuck is on the cover anyway? Is that supposed to be Max? Looks like Sam Fisher or Niko Bellic (after not showering for a few weeks).

I loved the first two games, but am worried that this one won't be good, when it's not Remedy making it. But we'll see.
And that picture doesn't look anything like Max Payne, at all!

No. His femme fatale did.
"I had a dream about my wife. She was dead, but it was okay."
Struck me as kind of depressing. Like the end of Requiem for a Dream.

And in Entertainment News: 3 longstanding television series have been revived and brought back for all-new seasons this winter: Baseball Batboy, Dick Justice, and Lord and Ladies!

It's going to fucking suck without Remedy's involvement and you'd have to be incredibly naive to think otherwise.
