The official Star Wars: The Old Republic website (http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090320_001) has been updated, revealing information on the first playable class, the Bounty Hunter (http://www.swtor.com/info/classes/bounty-hunter).
An infamous mercenary of the Star Wars universe, the Bounty Hunter’s journey is ruthless yet rewarding. Deadly missions and assassinations are just part of the dangerous tasks involved in choosing the Bounty Hunter career path. With missiles and flamethrowers at arm’s reach, the Bounty Hunter uses the latest in advanced armor and weapon technology to carry out these assignments - gaining not only money, but notoriety as a reward.

Wow, I wonder how many variations of Bobba and Jengo Fett there are going to be.

Yeah there will be many Boba and Jengo clones , but atleast Bounty Hunter sounds like a class that people will choose other than Jedi.
Hopefully Jedi will have more than one class like Kotor(tank, nuker, bit of both) otherwise everyone will role the same class.
As much a would love to role a Sith Jedi with bright red skin I will most likely choose whatever class becomes the best at killing Jedi in PVP.
I just hope they bring some of the awesome crafting from the poorly executed SWG game. People always complained about SWG's shitty 'combat experience', but since I was addicted to crafter classes from the start of beta I never noticed that. There was something about the endless grind of becoming a resource god and a credit sinkhole that was appealing to me. I think the best thing was being able to customize your crafted items right down to what particular resources you used on the item. /talkingtoself

I don't get why they are trying this again after the epic fail of SWG. It's not even the developers fault, it is just that Star Wars does not translate into MMO. I guess Bioware will learn the same lesson SOE did.

If anyone can do it, Bioware can.

I think it will be more successful than SWG but a worse game. Already this Bounty Hunter description sounds ridiculous. It sounds less like Bounty Hunter Class and more like Boba Fett class. They even act as if wristmounted flamethrowers is some sort of weapon all bounty hunters have in Star Wars.

I really think it's too early to say that they are doing any one thing with the class. They revealed a single class with 3 pictures and some short clips. Don't judge the class nor the game based on that, unless you're just that cool then I guess you can.
It's nice to see that the game bioware is developing, is coming along nicely. Kudos to Bioware.

yeah they are basically trying to take a popular character and make it so thousands of people can be that character. Even droids in the SW universe could be bounty hunters, it's not a class its just anyone who captures or kills someone for money.

"Thank you for participating in Bioware's alpha test. Your feedback will help us make this the best possible Star Wars MMO experience available."

I'm going to hold reservations until there are more concrete details/screen/gameplay movies. I have to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt. If I can't give it to them, who could I give it to?

Let's see. Bioware came to Austin, the same place Sony setup the Galaxies shop for Koster.
They pulled in DEVs that understood what SWG did wrong. And they even paid for people who experienced SWG and yet want to try again.
I am betting that they can pull out the usable elements and add their own BioWare touch to make it a least enjoyable. Which is magnitudes better than most MMOs coming out lately could say.
/Let's face it Austin does have a good pool of MMO DEVs.

It's not even the developers fault, it is just that Star Wars does not translate into MMO.
The era of Star Wars mythology that SWG was set in doesn't translate into MMo.
The era that Old Republic is set in has no canon restrictions like SWG did, so I have a good deal of hope (new... hope...?) that this one will work well as a massively multiplayer.
