GamesIndustry (http://www.gamesindustry.biz) is reporting that NVIDIA has signed an agreement acquiring ULi Electronics, a leading developer of core logic technologies who also just happens to be the current partner of ATI.

The details can be read here. (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=13633)

Interesting...

Is that nVidia admitting that ATi makes better products?

So long, ATi - thanks for the memories!

I just purchased a ULi M1695 based motherboard (it's a combo AGP and PCI-E motherboard). I have an AGP 6800 GT OC that I wasn't willing to give up. Works pretty good, no problems with it once I got the latest bios, although the only recommended cards for it's PCI-E slot are ATI. I imagine that will be changing shortly.

No, this isn't nVidia admitting ATI makes better products... this is nVidia preparing for a hostile take-over of either ATI or the ULi...

Is that nVidia admitting that ATi makes better products?Nope, it's nVidia hoping to cement their hold on another market: motherboards. They've already got a good thing going with the nForce line, and they're working on reaching the same level of success that their video card lines are at. ATI made a venture in this direction (as well as introducing their version of SLI) but have not really penetrated the market.

Well I play in a pretty exstensive gaming community and its always the ATI guys moaning about games not running so I think this is showing the opposite of your statement....anyone remember 3dfx......lol, can we say repeat.

They just made a southbridge. Lots of companies make southbridges. This is an interesting development, but not the death knell for ATI or anything like that.

Interesting politics though.

Not a death knell or anything, but ATI is the laggard at the moment.

Unfotunantly GeForce is starting to take over, I think atleast, Ive been more of a ATI person like my ATI Radeon X850 Pro. Althoguh I do like GeForce is some cases becuase mostly all of there cards are supported by games so that rules out most complications with geting the game to work unlike my X850 Pro which cant run BF2...bastard...

Ironically, BF2 runs like greased lightning (which isn't possible, for some reason) on my Geforce 7800 GTX ;)
