The Beastie Boys turntablist, who has been an advisor for the game Scratch, has weighed in on how he things the game will perform. His answer: bigger than Guitar Hero (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/03/19/beastie-boys-dj-scratch-the-ultimate-dj/).

And to lend his expertise to the game, which uses a turntable peripheral, they’ve enlisted all-star DJ Mix Master Mike (whose real name is Michael Schwartz) of Beastie Boys fame. But when he was first introduced to “Scratch,” the champion turntablist wasn’t sure what to make of it.

“Of course, I was pretty skeptical when they told me about it,” said Schwartz in a recent phone interview. “But in the initial meeting when they first showed it to me, it was actually kind of dope; I was pretty surprised.”

...

Schwartz added that the game isn’t just aiming for hip-hop heads who want to be DJs. “I think it’s going to attract everybody,” he said. “Gamers — period — are going to look at this game, because it’s the first of its kind, so I think they’re going to be really interested. I think it’s going to be as big as ‘Guitar Hero,’ if not bigger.”

Doubt it!

He means that literally. The game will be about 4 ounces heavier than guitar hero. It will carry more mass. So don't freak out now.

Okay, fine. Freak out. But seriously, this has gotta be the lamest flamewar ever. It's a lamewar.

“Gamers — period — are going to look at this game, because it’s the first of its kind..."

I love it when people don't know what they're talking about. There already is a DJ/Turntable game out there. It's called Beatmania. It arguably is the reason there ARE rhythm games, since it is what started the craze in Japan, which lead to DDR, which became huge in America as well.

Regardless, Beatmania was released here in the States, and from what I can tell, failed miserably (it didn't help that the game itself sucked and had a terrible tracklist).

Besides, I can't see many people saying they want to be a DJ as opposed to wanting to play guitar or drums.

I expect this game to do about as good as Get On Da Mic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_On_Da_Mic).

Gads, that game was awful. Can't believe I actually bought it. <averts eyes, looks downward in shame>
