The real time strategy game, Halo Wars, which came out for the Xbox 360 less than a month ago, is already a million seller.

Microsoft today announced that sales of “Halo Wars” have reached more than one million units worldwide, making the exclusive Xbox 360 title the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console. With a revolutionary control scheme designed expressly for the Xbox 360 controller and a riveting story that takes “Halo” fans deeper into the “Halo” universe, “Halo Wars” is breaking new ground for the strategy genre by introducing a new wave of fans to strategy games and reminding existing fans why it’s so fun.

Set in the year 2525, “Halo Wars” takes players on a perilous journey through the famed “Halo” universe. As players take the command seat in the early, epic battles between the UNSC and Covenant, they will begin to unravel events 20 years before “Halo: Combat Evolved” that shaped the franchise into what it is today.

Since the game’s release throughout Asia on February 26 and subsequent launches in Europe and the Americas, fans around the world have been taking full advantage of “Halo Wars’” rich Xbox LIVE gameplay. To date:

There have been more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches played
More than 118 years of time has been spent in multiplayer matches on Xbox LIVE
On average, more than 200,000 “Halo Wars” fans have taken up arms in battles between the UNSC and Covenant each day

Anything with the name Halo on it, is going to sell and sell big.

Went back to Halo 3 last night after not playing it since it came out. Made it through the first couple of levels and man, it's better than I remembered it being.

Last night I was playing RE5 with some kid. He was kind of shuffling around a dead body a bit and then he said "I really wish there was a crouch button." I took a moment to process this and then asked him "You a Halo fan, I take it?" He replied "I love Halo! How did you know?"

So there you have it, folks. Halo. The most successful franchise built entirely on corpse rape.

I conjecture the inherent lack of corpse rape in this iteration will be the only thing holding it back.

I wonder how many kids bought it thinking it was going to be an FPS?

I think most of the people are still around, just re-orged.

If by re-orged you mean went off to form different studios that are 0% owned by MS, then yes. There was exactly 1 person that stayed at MS from Ensemble and he actually came to ES from MS.

I'm completely baffled by Microsoft's moves. Get Ed Fries back please.

I wonder how many kids bought it thinking it was going to be an FPS?

When I went to EB, the employee wouldn't take my pre-order until he knew that I knew that it was an RTS. I guess they foresaw the angry kids wanting to return their Haloz.

But I've really been enjoying Halo Wars. I'm glad it's doing well and it's a shame about Ensemble. Thankfully, most of the guys from Ensemble joined together to form Robot Entertainment and Bonfire Studios. I think Robot's in charge of the post-release Halo Wars stuff (DLC, patches etc.)

I'm sickedned by this news. Because, after MS disbanded the studio, of course the dev studio who made it will not be seeing ANY money from this spectacular success. Who does see the money? Microsoft, the publisher, of course.

Sick.
