Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/grand-theft-auto-chinatown-wars-review) and IGN (http://ds.ign.com/articles/962/962778p1.html) have their Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars reviews out today, and they give it a 10/10 and 9.5/10 respectively.

Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/grand-theft-auto-chinatown-wars-review):
On balance though, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a triumph, not just in terms of bringing a difficult game to a new platform intact, but because it actually improves it in the process, and demonstrates a mastery of DS form and function. Those hoping for another gritty, complex narrative spine bound in the flesh of an openworld action-adventure may be disappointed by the rather more frivolous and silly antics of the Chinatown Wars cast, but even cynics should be converted by the huge, densely packed action playground we've been given instead. Overall this is GTA as it first was, with the inherited wisdom of GTA as it's been since, finished off with all sorts of things that would happily belong in a GTA of the future.
IGN (http://ds.ign.com/articles/962/962778p1.html):
I know I'm omitting a ton from this review - there's so much to the design that it's impossible to list everything there to experience. What I won't forget to mention: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars continues GTA's legacy as the premiere "sandbox" game design. Though it might look like a lot has changed in the move to the handheld platform, more has been added than taken away - there's so much to do in this Liberty City, and it's hard not to be impressed and amazed at some of the things the developer's managed to pull off on the hardware. GTA: Chinatown Wars is easily one of the best Nintendo DS games on the platform.

Can't wait to pick this up, as I always preferred the 2D GTA's to the 3D ones. The only thing I wish they'd change, is the cutscene art of the main character. He looks incredibly strange and disproportional. Rest of the cast looks fine, strangely enough.

9.5 for graphics? Haha, good ol' IGN. Always there to brutally overrate a GTA game.

For a game on the DS that has an entire city rendered in 3D complete with a day/night system, weather and shadows I think it deserves a 9.5

Well you haven't played many other DS games then. Even Mario 64 DS is leagues more technically impressive than this, and it was a launch title.

How would you know how technically impressive it is, or isn't, when it's not even out yet?

Mozgus, do not answer that question, I bet he's a FBI agent.

I don't think you understand what it means to be technically impressive. Mario 64 DS is not technically impressive. At all. Chinatown Wars uses the DS for everything it's worth.

Sorry but it isn't. It's a fucking overhead view from a set distance. It should look much better than this. Many other games feature completely unlimited 3D perspectives, and it runs and looks better than what GTA:CW has to offer. Hell, check out COD:WOW for DS.

You're so clueless it's not even funny.

As usual, I'm the only one that provides any reasoning as well as anything to compare two. The rest of you guys can only respond with "NO U WRONG!" I guess I must be wrong. I can't argue with that logic.

Grand Theft Auto games are automatically amazing and technically impressive, even if they are not.

Good job, Nintendo. You finally figured out how to get me to buy a DS.

Nintendo did nothing.

It's precisely your "reasoning", or lack thereof, that made me post this. You're comparing a game featuring a large 3D city with vehicles and pedestrians to a fucking platformer.

You also mentioned it was a straight top down view which clearly indicates you haven't read much about the game.

Of course you're free to prefer Mushroom Kingdom to Liberty City but don't be ridiculous.

Don't take my word for it, but here's what someone who actually played it had to say:

Well, if Chinatown Wars does nothing else, it presses the DS harder than virtually anything else you can buy for it. This is GTA on a smaller screen, but by no means a smaller scale. GTAIV's Liberty City may have been cut back to two islands (the best ones), but they're massive, diverse playgrounds, teeming with cars, pedestrians, the series' trademark missions and side-games, wonderfully rendered in surprising detail by an engine that ranks among the best on the platform.
