Destructioid (http://www.destructoid.com/bob-lets-the-cat-out-of-the-bag-explains-viral-campaign-124923.phtml) has a report up about Bob Pelloni, the guy who claimed Nintendo wouldn't sell him a DS Dev Kit because he wasn't legit. All his stupid antics (100 day "sit in protest") were in fact a ruse trying to get attention. Additionally, it looks like there are several publishers interested in the game, and it will in fact, see a retail release after all.

"Most of the Internet game community was completely fooled by it, despite the incredible absurdity contained throughout," claims Bob, in an email sent to the games press, including ourselves. "It saddens me that 'angry developer litters' is considered more newsworthy than 'angry developer was actually a really cool elaborate amateur viral campaign that fooled everyone!'"

Stating that he was using an "old school marketing style for an old school game," Bob insists that he's not really angry at being denied a license, and the notorious Bob's Game will see a DS release, even if he has to manufacture the carts himself. We of course demand a review copy.

I watched a video or two of this game, looked OK.

"I didn't REALLY have a breakdown. It was a JOKE. No, wait, a marketing campaign."

Yeah whatever nobody cares.

Well he can fuck off then.

I felt rather neutral before now, knew very little about the game, but if he wants to be an dick he can jog on.

EDIT: Also, what is all this "largest game made by one person" bullshit?

Are there still people out there who believe stuff like this? I come from the position that whatever I read, see, hear, etc., is bullshit until I get some kind of independent corroboration, and even then it's bull. The world is completely full of liars and manipulators.

I'm a cheery fellow. Really.

Well, I'll say this for this guy; He made a game by himself and managed to get news about it onto the front page of a lot of gaming sites.

Plus, I kind of like the idea of his game.

Wow, was he promoting the game or himself? Some lessons for Bob:

1) Don't promote yourself. If your game is good, it's all the promotion you'll ever need. I tend to find the biggest self promotion machines to also be the biggest windbags with no substance to back their talk

2) No one cares how long a game took to make or by how many people. If the game sucks, it sucks. If it's great, it's great ... whether it was made by one guy or 100

3) Don't point at other people's accomplishments and try to tear them down for the sake of making yourself look better.
