You know the new RE5 downloadable content? The stuff that is coming soon after release to add a competitive multiplayer? Well, after all the internet uproar, Capcom has seen fit to defend themselves (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57655).
Following backlash from fans, Capcom has defended its decision to put a price on two upcoming Resident Evil 5 multiplayer modes.
The modes, Slayer's Rule and Survivor's Rule, will enable four-player Versus multiplayer in the game for $4.99, or 400 Microsoft Points.
Because the DLC will be released within the next few weeks, and appears to not include any content beyond the modes themselves, fans have argued that the pack should be free--as in the case of the free patch enabling online functionality to the existing Mercenaries mode.
"Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5," said Capcom to CVG.
"We have never included a Versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there's also additional bandwidth costs associated with it," the company added.
I am not swayed.

I concur.
I find it extremely irritating when they do this, so I simply don't buy it.

I was barely interested in RE5 since it has moved from a survival horror game to a more generic FPS game anyway. This is the nail in the coffin for me, I just will not buy the game.

And so the time has come when Resident Evil stops being important.

Freakin' disappointing too, considering the first word I saw next to RE5 was "multiplayer." So you're going to market this as a bonus feature, worth 4 or 5 bucks? Here's a novel idea:
Sell the "single player version" for $55 and the "full version" for $60 and leave that DLC online. Boom, problem solved, the land of the rising sun reigns again.
This way is pure ripoffery. Yes, I said ripoffery.

How is it an FPS? Its not first person.
Maybe a generic shooter, but by definition it is not an FPS.

That sealed the deal for me to never play this game. To tell you the truth I wasn't going to anyway, the demo totally turned me off.

EvAv could sure use an "edit post" function. Typos are inevitable.

Eh, I dont care, I bought 2 copies and am loving it. If they wanna sell me more MP stuff, I'll buy it. This game has been in production for 4-5 years. So far what I've played is pure awesome. Controls are smooth and easy, and co-op is more then i could have asked for. What the hell are we complaining about.....other then outbreak what RE game has had multiplayer. Everyone knows that the next installment will have all of these features included in the beginning. Deal with it for now....since capcom had...what was it a 95% decrease in earnings last year? I'm supporting a company that has been around all these years, because I want them to make more games. Or we can boycott them and keep losing the companys and eventually our hobby.

This really isn't a difficult issue.
If you don't like the content or pricing, simply don't buy it.

That would be too easy. Its much more fun to get on the internet and complain about it ;)

Charge money for something features that should be free.... It would seem Evil Avatar and Capcom are running the same business model.

And yet again a typo. I'll go pay some money real quick so I can edit that.

You get it everywhere else, just not in news.
And people donate because they want to support the site, thats all.

they should have at least thrown the modes in the collector's edition because, aside from the case, it looks like some elementary school kid's project.

I'm sure we'd all be fucking our elves, especially if they were as hot as Liv Tyler's "Arwen". :D
Anywho, this Capcom dealie is probably a ripoff, seeing that Tekken 5 only got away with selling an "online add-on" because the single-player mode was $19.99. Capcom should've lowered the price of the retail game instead of asking fans to pay over $70 for the 'full' RE5 experience.

To be fair, if you simply don't buy it, Capcom may not realize why and thus will continue doing what you dislike, all the while blaming piracy for the dip in their revenue. If enough people get online and bitch about it, Capcom has the opportunity to fix the problems.

Man...we need a Jon Stewart to shine the light on the DLC industry. I mean, it's far from the most important thing, but it continually pisses me off to see DLC being charged for, so soon after release. I say MS should have an explicit moratorium for at least the month following release. I guess this release would fit that bill, but I'd still like to be a fly on the wall when these guys talk about these plans. Again, not to be hyperbolic, but, it's tone is probably similar to the grandma millie tapes. Now, this is in no way meant to decrease the gravity of the current economic crisis or the cruel fucks who helped bring us here, but my inner-cynic thinks their tone is probably similar.
Did I say my inner-cynic? I certainly meant my outer-cynic.

I'm convinced that this is a way to push game content anf prices to the 70 dollar price point and higher. I think there needs to be a value added discussion. this content should be included for our 60 dollar purchase. They will profit handsomely. I for one can afford to wait 6 months for games, as I would rather have the same game for 1/2 price. I have enough to tide me over. No need to rush into the hype feet first. I've done that a plenty in the past and in hindsight recall nice memories, but none that would be diminished if I had waited a few months.
Charge all you want for games. My attitude is lackluster for the hobby with all this patching, DLC, pricing, and corporate BS. I still love my gaming, but dont feel I need to pay top prices anymore on release day.
I hope everyone is having fun playing. keep up the good fight, maybe someday we'll get a good game with good content, without these gimmicks vying for more money. I blame micro transactions as a terrible model for this industry. Look at the uproar it has continued to surmount in us. totally not worth my interests. In 6 months or less it will all be included in a value based package at a fraction anyhow.
Peace

Some DLC is pretty good though. What they are doing with Fallout is pretty nice. The first may not have been the greatest, but the idea of it is damn good. Same goes with GTA...
But yeha, stuff that should have been included in its original release is whats annoying.

Well, let me first say that I'm one of the suckers buying this. Sounds like fun to me, and I don't think the addition of multiplayer or action ruined Resident Evil.
Also, I think it would be nice if we could have honesty from the developer about it. If they really had allocated a certain budget to the game, and then afterwards allocated more money just for the labor/resources for this, then I can completely see its $5 DLC status as justifiable. It would be just like how we're paying extra for the Fallout 3 and GTA content.

I'm sorry, but another month or two of development should not translate into a 5 dollar increase. Then again, they should have never gone to 60, but I'm old fashioned like that.
That said, RE4 was the best 3D game I ever enjoyed...I mean, thoroughly from beginning to end to beginning again. I'm really excited about RE5.

Well let me see. Considering the RE controls... and then thinking if I had to actually deal with human opponents who are much better than ai besides the dumbest of players i couldn't give a damn. I'd much rather play GoW 2 if I want good over the shoulder action because in comparison RE5 mp would have to be pretty fresh(and they're kinda out of that). Killzone 2's controls are irritating enough, throw on RE5 and I'm playing socom on the psp in vs... brain is going absolutely nuts how everyone is all of a sudden trying to do something new.
It's getting about as annoying as this over the shoulder bullshit camera nonsense when I'm only seeing everything over my right shoulder but if I were in fact seeing what the character is seeing at least in 3rd person, I would be able to see both sides of my shoulder. It's just another blind spot added that a person just normally not have and it steals from the immersion which is probably the most important thing when it comes to a horror game.

I doubt I would be interested in playing it online, could you just imagine it, everyone runs to kill each other then stops, aims and starts shooting standing still and someone lobs n a grenade and BOOM, multikill!
