NCSoft has revealed one of the Christmas themed in-game bonuses available until January 2nd is a personal jetpack.

"The jet pack giveaway is just the start of a season of Christmas cheer," said NCSoft. "Both heroes and villains can experience unique Christmas missions as part of Operation Holiday Cheer and the nefarious Operation Scrooge. A battle as epic as Christmas itself is on the cards, and players can win special prizes as they fight for the force of good or evil."

You can see screens of some of the games' Christmas content over at Boomtown (http://rpg.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=10075).

Anyone know about what Blizzard is putting into WoW for X-Mas other than quests?

There was another post about city of heroes and christmas but these are new screenshots from that one.

So far in WoW all I've seen is the darkmoon fair which is decidely lacking in winter theme for my tastes.

As for CoH, does anyone know what the reaction to CoV has been? There were a lot of players who were very upset over the nerfs before CoV launched and there was a lot of discussion about canceling accounts. Has player pop increased or decreased? And is the pvp balanced?

CoV is decent, the nerfs are not really a big deal, they barely hurt you unless your using more than 4 of the same bonus in a power. They did get rid of alot of the problems I had. They capped off debt so you won't have to work it off forever, added some new skins, and it feels way faster to reach level 14, which is when you get the better traveling powers(super jump, super speed, and flight). Don't know about PvP though, as I could care less about it.

Don't know about PvP though, as I could care less about it.

Ditto on the anti-PvP sentiment. My biggest beef with CoV is how much of the developement time clearly went into PvP zones and bases (which serve little-to-no purpose unless you PvP). Not nearly enough time was put into making all-new powersets (about 60-70% of the powers are directly from CoH). Considering how poorly PvP fared in CoH, I wish they'd channeled these energies into making more robust PvE content.

The 'big nerf' sucked, and I fully believe it was put in place to balance the game for the new villain Archetypes. The Corruptor, the Dominator, and Masterminds would've been cripplingly overpowered without said nerfage. I also think that nerf was Cryptic's deliberate effort to drive players to buy CoV by making CoH characters less appealing. Sure the same nerfs were applied to CoV, but to new ATs appear to've been designed to compensate. Heroes aren't so lucky.

That said, I'm still having fun. I'm happy with the new Archetypes. The ones that aren't Masterminds are a lot 'newer' than I first gave them credit for. The game is still essentially about combat. Teams are more essential than they used to be, but not mandated. Soloing can still happen, provided you're willing to call for help when you tangle with the occassional ArchVillain/Hero/Elite Boss. There is a new newspaper that you can read in any outdoor location to get missions. That's a really nice touch that is THE answer to endless (albeit repedetive) missions for players who aren't concerned with following CoV story arc missions. All in all, the good points in CoV outweigh the bad...for me. I just feel I'm not getting the full benefit of the devs' time since they're so focused on making PvP the future of the game.

Unless they plan on giving me a game without the enhancement nerfs and an iron-clad promise not to nerf everyone across the board in such a huge way ever again, I'm not interested.
