Full release as follows:

Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced its plans for a big comeback of its multi-million-selling franchise, Resident Evil® to the Wii™ video game system this year. Resident Evil®: The Darkside Chronicles, the sequel to the highly successful Wii title Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles, is in development exclusively for the Wii and is set to hit North American retailers this winter. Capcom also introduced its plans for a new Resident Evil “Classics” line, which will bring the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube™ classics, Resident Evil® and Resident Evil® Zero exclusively to the Wii, allowing a whole new audience to experience the world of Resident Evil.

Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience.”
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles‘s story is based on Resident Evil 2 and includes the popular characters, Leon S Kenney and Claire Redfield. Its on-rails style gameplay and active camera will create a more immersive “Chronicles” survival experience. As in the last installment, this is a first-person game with extreme shooting gameplay and interactive pathways. Filling in many of the missing pieces of storyline that were not covered in the original “Umbrella Chronicles”, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will give hardcore fans the chance to re-live some of the most classic moments of the Resident Evil franchise, while allowing new players to take advantage of the intense action-horror experience only possible on the Wii.

Gamers can choose to take on their enemies with the help of an A.I.-controlled character or enlist the help of a friend to fight via two-player co-op. Adding new dimension and strategy to the arcade-style gameplay in the “Chronicles” experience, the new Evade system will utilize the Wii Remote for a more intense experience when fighting enemies.

Capcom’s new Resident Evil “Classics” line will allow the new audience who has embraced the Wii to experience some of the greatest games in the Resident Evil franchise for the value price of $29.99. Both set to launch this year, the remake of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero have been refitted to support the Wii Remote, giving the Wii audience easy access to the rich characters and in-depth storylines of the series and the chance to experience both games on a new platform.

Why release more new games (or heck, even remake a classic game) when you can just slap Wii controls on last-gen games? Brilliant!:(

So they're releasing remakes of a remake and charging for online multiplayer for RE5. I hope they don't get too carried away whit this stuff.

Can't say I care too much about RE: Zero or another RE1 (Really, does this game need Wii controls?) -- but Darkside will indeed be awesome.

Nice to see Darkside, but "classics?" They're both games we've seen before, the first being a port of a remake of the first game.

I was probably putting too much faith into the RE 2 remake. Oh well.

Oh yes, really great news :) Will be looking forward to this. Good thing that Capcom is't ignoring the Wii (because of RE5)

They're releasing another rail-shooter and two re-re-makes. If this is how Capcom plans on supporting the Wii then their efforts are very sad.

It's better than nothing :) It could be better but it could be worse :)

Although already released in Japan, RE0 has not been remade and released for the US yet, the the follow-up to the Umbrella Chronicles was not announced for US release either. This is about to change (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6205970.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6205970), however.

After days of teasing major game announcements at its Resident Evil 5 launch events tonight, Capcom saw its surprise spoiled by Famitsu. Widely circulated scans of the Japanese magazine identified the publisher's big reveal as Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles for the Wii. Developed by Cavia (Bullet Witch), the game will be a sequel to the studio's on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, supporting up to two-person play.

Biohazard-ous no longer...

Now, Capcom has officially confirmed that Darkside Chronicles will arrive in North America this coming winter. Judging by the publisher's proclivity for the January-March quarter--see RE5, Lost Planet, Street Fighter IV, and Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop--the "winter" window points to an early 2010 release for the game...

Capcom has also announced that Darkside Chronicles is the first of three new Wii games in the horror-survival franchise. "New" might actually be an overstatement, since the other two are the first of a Resident Evil Classics line, which will see GameCube hits ported to the Wii. The first two titles in the series will be Resident Evil--itself a remake of the 1996 PlayStation original--and the prequel, Resident Evil 0, both released in 2002.

RE4 was a natural fit on the Wii, but the original RE seems as though it would be quite difficult to play with a Wiimote.

More RE games == better. What I don't particularly like are the damn ports. If they add something extra then sure (item chest for RE:0 would make it one of the best RE games of all times).
