As we tally the votes for Xbox GotY for the poll, now it is time to put down which PS2 is GotY should be there.

Shadow of the Colossus - Picked it up 2 days ago and I can't put it down. It's good to know there are actually still creative developers out there.

Shadow of the Colossus... or Guitar Hero... or Soul Calibur 3... or Dragon Quest 8.

Damn, I just realized I have really mixed feelings about PS2 GOTY.

Split between Guitar Hero and Dragon Quest 8.

Psychonauts already won XBox GoTY (it better have), or I would vote for it as well.

There were a handful of great games this year, like Dragon Quest VIII, Digital Devil Saga, Guitar Hero, Sly, and all that shit I posted so many times before, but Shadow of the Colossus takes the cake for GOTY. It's probably GOTY across all 3 consoles, too. SotC is more of an experience than a videogame.

1. SotC
2. DQ8
3. God of War
4. Some new Ratchet/Clank game
5. RE4 (since apparently multiplatform is fine for GotY)

I think that covers most genres, take you're pick!

Still have yet to play Psychonauts =/

I don't even like music games, but I still must say Guitar Hero. It absolutely nails what it is attempting to do.

Doesn't matter. Shadow of the Colossus was far superior to it in every way ... this coming from a guy that voted Psychonauts Xbox GotY, by the way.

Tough call. As far as the wow factor goes, Shadow of the Collossus takes the cake. However, in terms of sheer fun and playability, I'd have to go with God of War. I would throw Guitar Hero in there but I suck at rythem games and am not much of a fan of them. It is fun to watch though...

Voting for God of War. Might not have been the longest or most challenging game ever, but it had that "cinematic gameplay" down...something which isn't done very often.

I don't even own a PS2 to play it on (although my roommate does), but that didn't keep me from buying this gem. :D

God of War was good, but I gotta give it to Shadow of the Colossus, because I'll remember details about SoTC long after I've forgotten about the details in GoW.

Deadend
12-12-2005, 09:29 PM
Give SoTC 'Game We Love' award, give Guitar Hero 'Rawk!' Award, give God of War 'Sex ad Violence' award, and lastly give Dragon Warrior 8 the 'Best game to involve toon-shading, EVER' award. Or your own versions, GoTY by console is so lame, as Resident Evil 4 is in the running on PS2 and GC, and Psychonauts on multiple systems as well.

I think the limiting the best game awards by console is weak, as many of us have multiple systems now.

Just limit it to 5-6 games to give an award to. We can make up titles or ranks later. Maybe 5 great games and a GoTY?

RE4. Whoever pulled that off on the aging PS2 hardware deserves a hearty pat on the back. Technical brilliance. Awesome physics, frantic gameplay. Good length.

And zombies. Lots of zombies.

Most bestest game ever.

Hmmm,

Seems alot of people like Shadow of the Collossus. It's a fine game. I'm surprised the San Andreas isn't mentioned, or GTA 4. It may be that whats been played recently is most on your minds. I'll try and be subjective here too.

My vote goes to the newest Barbie game.

Merry X-mas! :D

Ha ha! You know, it could have been a contender had Sony shipped it with a decent engine and not hyped it up to be a Halo killer. There's something of a pattern developing here with Sony's hype seldom (if ever) being realized.

Shadow of the Colossus because I would love to see more games like it.

I thought that RE4 was a Game Cube game before it was a PS2 game and should thus be a candidate for GC GOTY and not PS2 GOTY. I also think Psychonauts should only be considered for Xbox GOTY for the same reason.

RE4 will get the GC GOTY hands down. I didn't pick it for PS2 because Shadow of the Colossus exists. If not, it would be a potential substitute.

Its really pissing me off how much potential was wasted with that game. I'm playing it now and you can feel that theres a great game in there, but the framerate and bugs just keep it down.

That's why I think Killzone 2 will be a much better game. They attempted too much on an ageing console. Ambitious, yes, but that game on the PS2 was like putting your frail grandmother on a snowboard and sending her down a mountain.

PS2 GotY Nominations: God of War, Guitar Hero, or Makai Kingdom.

Guitar Hero is by far and away one of the best games I own. Great experience (for the player and the watchers), good variety, solid controller, not too expensive, and near unlimited replayability.

God of war is the finest hack and slash game in existence. It may be the closest that a PS2 game has ever come to telling a heroic epic. Unfortunately, it's not terribly replayable and the final fight of the game didn't have the same cool heroic moments that dominated the rest of the game's boss fights.

Makai Kingdom is the finest strategy game to date on the PS2, with maybe the exception of Disgaea. With the ability to endlessly reincarnate your characters into other classes and have them inherit their abilities from the previous classes, there's a huge amount of customization available. The downside is that once you've played through the main game, there's just a handful of EXTREMELY difficult hidden bosses to find. I would've really liked to have seen a multi-player mode where players can pit their creations against eachother. NIS has stated again and again that multiplayer isn't a priority for them. Alas! I'm guessing this is my Shadow of Collosus; a game some people will always remember as near perfect, and some people will just never get it.

Why I'm not nominating Shadow of Collosus It was a graphically amazing game (the slowdown did bug be a fair bit) with some brilliant (if brief) moments. However, it didn't quite have the same amount of spark for me as it seemed to for others. I didn't like Ico either. But that probably just shows you I'm not a true adventure gamer.

Also I think they went after the wrong crowd, they said "HEY HALO PLAYERS CHECK THIS OUT!" when they should have aimed at the MoH and CoD guys, its much more that type of game.
