Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com) has all the details (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=7472).

Following a record total of 118 entries, competition was especially fierce, but the forty IGF judges, picked from mainstream and indie game creation and journalism circles, have singled out their pick of the outstanding indie titles. In particular, the finalists for this year's $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize include Introversion's cult action-strategy title Darwinia, Ankama's French strategy-RPG MMO Dofus, Grubby Games' fiendish puzzle platform game Professor Fizzwizzle, Digital Eel's innovative 'short' space exploration title Weird Worlds: Return To Infinite Space, and Pocketwatch Games' ecosystem-building title Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa.
Nice to see Darwinia (http://www.darwinia.co.uk/) getting some loving. Not to mention the timely boost in awareness for the upcoming Steam (http://www.steampowered.com) powered launch.

The IGF can open a lot of doors for developers--I think CMP did a great job on selection for this year's finalists. This will be our second year in the IGF (first Beesly's Buzzwords, now Glow Worm). We're really looking forward to it.

It's a real shame that one of my favorite independant devolopers, Kenta Cho, doesn't try to get recognized for this sort of stuff.

He has many small titles that i have spent countless hours playing.

If you make finalist you're required to travel to the Game Developer's Conference to demo the game. Last year they opened up the rules to allow someone to represent you by proxy, but it still stops a lot of international developers from entering (CMP doesn't cover travel/lodging/etc costs for finalists).
