View Full Version : Weekend Gamer - What are you playing?

The glorious weekend is here. I have crawled out from the mountain of work to focus on what games I could play this weekend. It will be the usual suspects - CoH and WoW. It was a mistake to go back and play WoW because I am once again addicted to it. What are your plans for the weekend? I know a lot of people have finals, and then there is the shopping still to be done. What will you be playing?

I'm trying to finish up FEAR, but I'm really not sure how much is left.

Geometry Wars, Halo 2, some PDZ online, MUCKing as usual... I might order Spellforce Platinum this weekend as well, not sure. Right now I'm thinking about going to the movies tomarrow, but I'm not sure whether I'd want to see Harry Potter or Narnia... bleh!

Two Thrones all the way!

SOCOM (PSP) - This game freakin' ROCKS! I actually like the targeting system better than the PS2 version.
Legend of Heroes (PSP) - Classic old school RPG to go.
Half-Life 2 (XBOX) - I didn't play it on the PC, so it's all new and amazing to me!

Dragon Quest VIII. It's hard, it's fun, it's old school. And I love the turn-based combat. I tried playing Dark Cloud 2 (also from Level 5) but hated the real-time combat.

Animal Crossing Wild World most likely. Maybe try to finish up Nocturne, but I got stuck and discouraged, so I'm not too sure about that. May also start reading The Chronicles of Narnia.

Hopefully finish up Kameo, and try the Splinter Cell's on the 360. . . I never finished SC:CT, so I guess I'll start that again.

Not that this is a game, but I also hope to finally get around to reading A Feast for Crows.

I am also playing Two Thrones and loving it, picked up animal crossing wild world and thats not bad either. Im trying my best to play mario and luigi PIT for the ds but COD 2 for my 360 is just taking up to much of my time, im not really into WW2 shooters but that game is intense. Also im gonna try and finish watching season one of battle star galactica on DVD man im likeng that show, I hope the second season is just as good.
ps smash tv and gauntlet are both a blast on live but im sure you guys already knew that!!

I'm playing the Moving game, unfortunately. On top of that, my body decided to break down and catch a cold! The fun I'll be having this weekend will be simply undescribable...

World of Warcraft with the misses, and maybe some Burnout Revenge. Staring at my copies of Kameo and PDZ which are still in the shrinkwrap.

May also start reading The Chronicles of Narnia.

I did that last night!!! (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.)

I wish I could be playing Guitar Hero's but it's still not here where I am, making me a sad panda =(

Otherwise, I think i'll be playing some Mega Man Anniversary for PS2. While I wait for the Mega Man X Collection.

I need new games...

In between landscaping my front yard (it's December - what the hell was I thinking when I started it?) and cleaning the house, I'll be playing some CoD2 and Kameo on Xbox 360, GUN on PC, and maybe some MGS3 on PS2.

Sunday is all about Panthers versus Bucs at Bank of America Stadium. I'm trying to get a ticket right now, but it's proving impossible so far!

Fitbabits, what do you think of Gun? I just finished it on the 360 and was extremely in to it. I really hope this turns in to a franchise as I love the game play and style of the whole thing. Finally Outlaw isn't the only good western in videogame history. I plan on starting over on a higher difficulty setting this weekend (normal is VERY easy).

Studying for finals and doing final projects. . . . College is the sux0r this week.

I think I'll reinstall UT2K4 this weekend, or some other shooter I can get mindless about. I still haven't beat RE4 completely (got interrupted by the 360 that I had for 5 days before it died and I stupidly returned it instead of getting it fixed).

It's cold, and I'd really like something to read. . . my reading speed has gone up in the last six months despite my having been a reader all my life and having been fairly normal speed before. Now I find myself finishing off 300 page novlets in 2 nights and larger stuff in a week. Which is kind of cool, but also kind of frustrating as I'm having to reread stuff to get to sleep (I always read before I sleep. . . I'm sure my future wife (no one in mind, but you know the hypothetical future wife) will love that.

I've got betas to mess with too. . . but I'll say no more.

You must have missed the whole thread on Narnia yesterday. I'm well aware of all the intricacies of the ordering of the books. That's, in fact, why I specified which book I started with.

I agree with you Judas, but I also agree with the reviewers. This was a very fun game, with a great story, but it was a bit short and the map of "the West" was fairly small. Still, the voice-acting is so high quality, the gameplay is so good. . . I just wish it would have given us more of everything so that this would have been the GTA:Old West that it could have been.

Still, I recommend this very, very highly as a renter, if not a game to buy due to the short length.

Ive recently gotten rehooked on SimCity4. I've always been a huge fan of the simcity series but some of the changes in 4 bug the hell out of me. I'll probably also play a few rounds of geometry wars and perfect dark on the 360.

Animal Crossing DS baby!!!
This game is one for the ages. It will be played for years to come.

I have been connecting to Wifi to play my friends and now random messages, letters, and clothes have started infiltrating my town. It is pretty cool how even though you don't connect to people you can still get stuff through the network.

Battlefield 2. guilty pleasure. I hate supporting EA and wish there was a better game to kill fools online and yell at them, but right now there isn't... is there?

Goddamn Dragon Quest VIII. I am 42+ hours in and I seriously want to finish, if only because I have other games calling to me. Yet I'm too stubborn to leave one game to jump into another.

It snowed a huge amount here in the northeast, the biggest of the season (I had to back down an entire hill because my car wouldnt creep to the top today! I was stuck spinning, there, in the middle of the road--fucking road crews) so I might also try to read some more Rise of Endymion (it's getting really good now, and this is the last book in the Hyperion Quatralogy) and maybe do a bit of Xmas shopping. I purchased my mother a Tungsten E2 this week, so I'm pretty much finished with the family, as my brother is taking care of my father's present. I need to pick up an ornament for the gay office party/ornament swap on Monday. Blah blah blah, and masturbate.

So...yeah, Dragon Quest VIII.

Must like Nesta, I, too, am playing the moving game. I get keys for my brand new home in about 45 minutes, and then it's the box carrying game.

Also, as there's a pigeon infestation at the house, I'm probably buying a BB Pistol and playing a little COD2: Real Life Edition in my back yard.

If I'm lucky, maybe I'll get my desk put together, a new power supply for my computer, and I'll be able to bust out a couple of hours on COD2 and some demos I've downloaded and installed, but never executed.

I'm playing Deus Ex, for the first time. Way back in the day, I had it loaded on my machine, lbut my monitor was in its dying stages and I couldn't see a damn thing anytime a game took place in less than full daylight. Games with flashlights, torches, what have you - nothing helped. Futz all the day long with gamma, contrast... nothing. I was poor back then... hadn't yet fallen in with the CS crowd at university... Dark times, literally and figuratively. Deus Ex was barely playable, so I eventually just uninstalled. After the intervening years, I'm looking forward to finally experiencing it!

Other than that... I'm probably going to play Advance Wars: Dual Strike for the DS, and Trauma Center: Under the Knife. And See If Maybe: I Can Find Some Other Games: With Colons in the Titles. Have a good weekend, all! If you're in a region buried under snow, drive carefully!

Thanks.

Sadly it's true. Full-time, 8-hours from 8AM to 4PM, I'm back at home at 5PM, totally wasted. Because I have a dog who needs to go out each morning I have to actually wake up at 6AM, daily.

Man, having a job sometimes sucks.

I'm an Business Application Programmer BTW. Working in Microsoft Business Solutions-Axapta IDE, coding forms, raports and classes in X++ language.

First job? You'll get used to the new schedule and find ways to fit in a lot more in the time you have free. My hours are 8 till 4:30, but I'm always here about 7 and stay till about 9 or so. Yet I still find time for gaming! :)

I'll never fucking beat it. I see that the game is usually beat by Level 40 by most people, according to some FAQs. I'm at level 32, I thought I'd be somewhere near the end, for Christ's sake.

And I wouldn't call it a serious spoiler. Oh well, I'll take it down.

I just finished my last final today, and in celebration I'm gonna go out and buy Prince of Persia: Warrior Within since it's down to $20 now. I loved Sands of Time and agreed with PA when they gave it their game of the year award in 2003.

Other than that I've been playing some Battlefield 2 and its expansion, Special Forces. Unfortunately my GeForce FX5700 isn't quite cutting it anymore, so I fear an upgrade may be necessary soon.

Oh, and more Final Fantasy VII goodness. Third time through and it's still enjoyable (though not quite my favorite).

From your previous posts about DQ8, I pegged you at the 90-110 hours mark, on par with my pacing. I finished the game at level 48 with a time of 107. About the last 5 or 6 levels were from power-leveling.

The thing is, anything I say can be a spoiler to the story, and so I'm refraining as much as I can in responding. Heck, some of my post may be consider misleading or vague. But that's only because I don't want to spoil it for you or anyone else.

By the way, If you are in Arcadia, I would say you're somewhere around 60-70%. The number's not scientific; I just made that up. Misleading ain't it? :D

Goddamn Dragon Quest VIII.

I might also try to read some more Rise of Endymion (it's getting really good now, and this is the last book in the Hyperion Quatralogy)

So...yeah, Dragon Quest VIII.

I absolutely loved the Hyperion series. One of the best sci-fi series I've read, period. I've got Illium by Simmons but I haven't started it yet. Looks neat, although the lack of The Shrike will hurt it somewhat :)

I've actually taken a break from Dragon Quest VIII for most of this past week. PoP: The Two Thrones has sucked up a lot of my time and I also picked up:

<flames>GUITAR HERO</flames>

which is, as the kiddies say, the 'MOST AWESOMEST GAME EVARLOLO!O!?!!@#1!"

I'm planning on spending most of tonight working my way further into The Two Thrones (hopefully I'll have it finished early next week) and I'm having friends over tomorrow evening to rock the house with Guitar Hero.

Then I get to play the 'Pretend to be a graphic designer' game and design a logo for my co-worker's side business at some point on Sunday.

And if I get around to it, shovel some snow, go to an invite-only Christmas party at a sci-fi bookstore and maybe play some WoW.

But Guitar Hero will rule most of my weekend, I'm sure. I think I'm already starting to get callouses.

Sands of Time was fantastic.

I'll say this about Warrior Within. It's the only game that I've bought twice and returned twice.

I was giving it an honest try this time around and got a good 5/8ths of the way into it until the crappy combat and annoying backtracking drove me insane. I really wanted to finish it, but I just got fed up. The upside is that I was able to trade it in and get money towards Guitar Hero, which is infinitely more fun.

If you really liked Sands of Time, you'll probably love The Two Thrones. It's the game that Warrior Within should have been. It's dark, but there is a wicked streak of humour running through the game. It also seems to be much more platform focused than Warrior Within and the combat is nowhere near as annoying. The Dark Prince is an awesome character too. Just listening to the two princes as they bicker is a hoot.

Are you my soulmate? Hyperion is one of my favorite books of all time, the Canterbury Tales meets Space Opera Sci-Fi. Incredible. The second book was great and I'm actually enjoying the anti-Christian narrative of Endymion and Rise of Endymion. They aren't quite as good as the first books, but all together they are one of the best science fiction epics of all time.

The Shrike is named after the shrike bird that impales its prey on thorns so it can eat it later. Eerie as hell, hugh? The Tree of Thorns suddenly makes a crapload of sense.

And I love the fact that the Shrike is always on the covers of the books, but he's really a secondary character. I actually get excited when he makes an appearance in the story. I don't know of many other villains (or whatever he is) in literature, film, or other media that brings out that sort of emotion in me. Simmons is a literary genius and crafts not only his primary characters with tremendous skill, but his secondary as well. And his worldcrafting is magnificent.

Oh, and I hate Rhadamanth Nemes. Bitch.

...Not exactly the best choices. I would of recommened one of the following: Mario Kart DS, Kirby's Canvas Curse, Animal Crossing DS, Nintendogs, or possibly Meteos if you like puzzle games. Advance Wars DS is... well, it's just like every other Advance Wars game. Lost in Blue isn't for everyone from what I understand, though I'm dieing to pick it up myself.

Ugh

Guitar Hero, CIV MF IV, PD0, some Live! arcade, etc etc...

Also, playing the 'I'm sorry' game with my g/f for blasting the fuck out of Guitar Hero last night while she was trying to sleep.

This weekend I will try and play some PGR3. I'm so hooked at the moment on that I haven't had chance to give COD2 and PD0 any attention yet. :D

hehe...I'm hooked on PGR3 as well. The online play is seamless and quite an adrenaline rush. Add custom soundtracks* to the equation and you have one brilliant gameplay mix.

*Note: A bit of info - I was confused at first because there was no 'custom soundtrack' option in PGR3's audio options menu. It turns out that you run your custom music from the 360's dashboard. Make sure you take all the necessary "Windows Media Connect" steps first so that the 360 can find your computer on the network.

Animal Crossing, the original Gamecube version! I just landed a huge turnip profit last week and made 2 million Bells on a 200,000 Bell investment so I FINALLY got my piggybank for having 10 million Bells in the bank. Snow just hit the ground in my town today, and I'm trying to get the last few items for my upstairs Backyard theme. After that, all I need is a few spring fish and insects to complete those two categories. Still have about half a dozen paintings to go, though. Those things are hard to come by.

Also probably putting some time into Call of Duty. I'm actually getting rather bored with it. It sure looks pretty but the gameplay, despite how clever the enemy AI is, is incredibly repetitive. I miss Kameo now that it is over. :(

I picked up my God of War save, after not having played it in... oh, too many months. That and Mario Kart DS.

My god... I just finished spending approximately 3-4 hours playing Guitar Hero with my friends and it is even better multiplayer. Granted, we had only one guitar controller but on the PS2 controller it plays a lot like Amplitude so we were able to have a blast regardless.

Of course, my extra few days of practice also allowed me to wow them (and myself) by nailing some of the crazy guitar solos in Bark At The Moon. I'm scared to try the Hard or Expert difficulty levels!
