The 360 Backwards Compatibility List (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm) has been updated. Only 6 new titles have been added, all Tom Clancy Games. All 3 Splinter Cell games are listed.
Well...the first update came faster than I expected...but with fewer than I expected.

Yeah but pretty popular list.... plenty of people will be happy with that.
But where is FarCry? :(

Sweet! Looks like we'll be getting monthly updates in the future. Rootkit-free downloads are the way to go.
I heart Microsoft, and you can quote me on that!

The Splinter Cells were one of the big voids in the original BC list. Great to see them added.
Hopefully coming soon are Psychonauts, Chronicles of Riddick and Far Cry.

Comeon, man. All I want is to be able to play NEW original Xbox releases. Is that SO HARD? I would like Xmen Legends 2, but just give me Prince of Persia at least and I'll be satisfied.
It's curious because way before the 360 came out, we heard that MS would be working with devs to make sure all future Xbox games would be compatible. It would be humorous to see how different, if at all, the original Xbox version of GUN or American Wasteland looked through the emulator w/ high definition enabled.

Thats good that the Splinter Cells are on there now. Regular updates are good.
It doesn't mention Ninja Gaiden has been updated with a better emulator though :(
I'm a big MS fan too but I was gutted when Ninja Gaiden:Black didn't work on the 360. It had severe slow down. I bought it specifically to play on it too in nice 720p because it was on the list.
Oh well fingers crossed a specific update will be made for this great game.
Good work MS.

If Chaos Theory works, ANYTHING should work. That game uses every graphical trick in the book.

I'm thinking the same thing. I was a little concerned that a lot of the more graphical intensive games hadn't made the list (SC:CT, Doom 3, Riddick, Farcry, etc.) but thing are looking up. Can't wait to finally get my hands on a 360 now though.

I wonder how backwards compatible Windows Vista will be...

I bet they are working on the most difficult games 1st (and then keeping the ones that they suddenly get for free). The hard games would also correlate with the best selling games pretty well. Now if they could just get more of their most popular online games running I would be quite happy. Rainbow Six and the Halo games is a good start, but it's just a start. If a game was playable online, it ought to be on this list. The same thing goes for any game released this fall.

Dudes, Half-Life 2 is on the list and it doesn't barely run on the Xbox 360. You get like double the framerate from the original Xbox. They need to do some serious QA to make sure that all the titles on that list really work.

Note that the Ninja Gaiden:Black emulator has been improved. Sinatar tried it and noted a marked improvement.

Can someone explain EA's post to me? He says that HL2 is a big improvement then says that they need to QA the emulators? Or is HL2 rubbish on 360 BC?
Just a little confused...

Methinks "double" is meant to be "half".
The way some of you guys are talking about this emulator is like they've written a emulator for each game. I think the way it would work though is they have one emulator for the xbox and just test the games until they 'work'. Once they work they're added to a 'compatible' list and the game is allowed to execute. Obviously it may not run well at first, but as they work on the emulator, and add supporting functions, increase performance, and fix bugs it will impact all the games on the list. Just go look at the development history for any emulator. They all start out kinda buggy, with few titles running and eventually end up working well. The performance of Ninja Gaiden:Black getting better as a result of this latest update makes sense.
Microsoft was smart to create a list of compatible games, imagine all the gamers that would be bitching about games crashing while running in the emulator. I'd much rather the game 'worked' even if it was slower, than the game crashing in the middle of play and I don't consider the small stuff like the halo2 graphical glitches 'show stopper bugs', but they are annoying. I'm happy that I can play another game (splinter cell) on my xbox, I still have a bunch that aren't compatible, but I'm certain that in time they will be. Considering the 360 hasn't even been out a month, and they've already added games to the compatibility list makes me very happy about the future of backwards compatibility.
Can't wait to get home now to play some Splinter Cell.

I think he means that you get double the framerate on the xbox than you do on the 360.

Nice, now I can get back to going through the Splinter Cell: CT missions. . . oh wait I have to start over. Oh well, I can just shoot my way through this time.

Here's a question I haven't really heard asked: with having to make download after download to create backward compatablity, how much space is going to be left on that 20 gig HDD for actual content?

I'm sure if they are making new executables for the files that they won't be very large. It's not like they are adding art, movies, or anything else that is space intensive.

Some gaming executables on XP right now:
Call of Duty 2: 1.6 MB
Guild Wars: 3.6 MB
Quake 4: 4.7 MB
BF2: 7MB
Avg Size: 4.45 MB
XBox Titles (600 I think) - 2.535 GB
So theoretically if you owned every XBox title...you'd still only fill 2 and a half gigs.

If you're looking for a little more depth on this topic, I've posted a news item that examines the additions, subtractions and other wrinkles in detail. For instance, they've (supposedly) added support for the Jade Empire LE bonus disc.
Xbox 360 December emulation update (http://www.gamestay.com/categories/xbox/2005/12/09.html)
It's interesting to note that they messed up the Halo 2 profile and had to pull the whole update and work through the night to fix it. None of the new profiles were available this morning but should be back today (Dec. 9). Can anyone confirm that it's working now? I'm not where I can check it.

people. all the emulator has to do is emulate a 733 celeron with a dated nvidia graphics chipset. it isn't that hard. they just want to make you think that it is.
take care

That's way too much wasted space, though, for a 20 gig drive. That's 2 1/2 gone, after you subtract space lost in formatting and anything else pre-installed.
