Thanks to Times Online (http://www.timesonline.co.uk) for this story (http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,9075-1914429,00.html).

Sony BMG has been forced to admit for the second time in two months that secret software embedded into millions of its music CDs leaves computers vulnerable to attack from malicious hackers.

The latest warning applies to CDs marketed in the United States and Canada, though it is possible that export copies have made their way to British shops. Sony did not return calls from Times Online on the matter.
Consider this the last time this particular horse gets beat on the main News page (unless something major happens) - I'll likely post updates in the Totally Off Topic (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9) forum from this point on.

Beating horses is fun. Thanks for the converage, fitz.

I went into my local Sam Goody last night. Guess what? They still had some on the shelf.

Sony: "We're doing everything we can."

Sigh. Almost four weeks and $10,000 later.

The appearance is that Sony is trying to wait this thing out and hoping it will go away!

Could you send a bill to Sony for the $10,000? Or, and this would be interesting, sue them for loss of work/earnings?

We're a 501c3. I don't see us suing any time soon. :( You're exactly right about the press. They've kind of dropped it. However, it seems as if some states are starting to perc up.

Also, for those keeping up. They have ANOTHER (http://news.com.com/New+Sony+CD+security+risk+found/2100-1002_3-5984764.html) security flaw and copy protection scheme.

I also read yesterday that the NYC District Attorney is looking at joining in on the suit that Texas and California have brought against Sony.

I don't mind this being on the front page. I think it's interesting news, and since the infected CDs are still in stores, it's a good reminder of buyer beware for people during the annual shopping season.
