Entitled The Stetchkov Syndicate, the expansion pack brings a host of new levels, weapons and enhancements to the highly rated SWAT 4 and is scheduled for release in Q1 2006.

Crime is on the rise. More guns and drugs are appearing on the streets and the city is in crisis. SWAT is called in to take on a series of disturbances that eventually lead them to the root of the problem, an eastern European crime family that has taken up residence in the city. A final showdown will place legendary SWAT tactics against the most dangerous and ruthless criminals yet, the Stetchkov syndicate. Check out new SWAT 4: TSS screens & trailer (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=30359) over at WorthPlaying.

Okay is the mission review still borked? Love tactical so might pick this up. Co-OP plus some online tweaks might make this a must buy.

I still haven't finished SWAT 4, but I plan on it, but this sounds a little more "rainbow" then SWAT 4 which could go either way.

I saw Syndicate in the title and for a second there I hoped somebody was unearthing that fantastic game for a remake.

Alas :(

WARNING THIS ADD-ON WILL CONTAIN ADWARE!

Sorry I just realized this was the game that added ADWARE. Never mind DO NOT BUY.

Guess it really only kicks in online but players over at 10-David say it's just awful.

Every single game that comes out of vu is gonna have adware, unless these random ads bog performance, I don't really care ALL that much.

I loved SWAT 4 but I'm not sure I'd want to buy this by the way that VU pretty much dumped support for the original as soon as it was released. It could have been a great competition game if they would have added Punkbuster to it and fixed all the bugs in a timely manner. Instead the large multiplayer community dried up within a matter of a couple of months after its release. Shame.

Well I'm a security nut. Why create a hole that has nothing for me. The SONY BMG thing is counting on consumers like you. Sorry but I'd rather vote no then lay down and get piped up the (orifice of your choice). It's wrong to install software on my machine and not tell me what is or how to get rid of it. Promise hackers will figure out how to use it to F up your machine.

Wow, wow, wow....the ad software in the game is a security issue? Fuck that then!

Edit: For the record, I haven't bought a Sony BMG cd since I heard about that. Anyways I can only think of one band I like thats under Sony BMG anyway.

From what I know and have read, *all* ad-ware and mal-ware is a potential security issue, opening a back door and all that. Not that this software *will be* but it has that potential, like all ad-ware programs.

Look in fairness no specfic issues have been found with the adware in SWAT 4.

My point was inserting ads creates an oppurtunity similar to what happened during the SONY BMG rootkit crap. Everyday machines are explored for open pipe. If it's the Google toolbar or Massive's adware crap it creates problems for users. In this case the user gets nothing from it except advertising that makes the game less fun. I don't know if anyone noticed but a certain mainstream shooter shipped with no copy protection and does not require the CD in the drive. I suspect companies are figuring out that punishing the paying customer makes no sense. Ads that run in my game and give me nothing should be eliminated.

I wouldn't take people's posts about this adware being a security issue as gospel unless there is some techincal explanation of it.

However, there is no arguing that adware is really really annoying.

Agreed! However no arguing it's a potential threat

Here's a link to the technical discussion and community feedback on the in-game ads included in the SWAT 4 v1.1 patch release (and most likely the new expansion pack): http://www.10-david.com/?p=news_item&id=861

Pie : Love your site! and loved the deep level back and forth on in game ads there!

The most shocking part was next. The client contacted madserver to tell the advertisers how long the gamer spent with each advert in their view. This is mapped to the gamer id, so they know which player in the game saw the advert, and when, for how long, and from how far away (by virtue of the size attribute). Even the average viewing angle is passed back."

I really don't find that very shocking or bothersome. Does it track anything out of game?

Sorry but lay down and take it attitude simply serves the master. We are the consumers. Want to place ads FINE! Tell us and give us an opt out option. This software placed on your machine with out your approval or knowledge. Can't belive you your down with that. What's next keyloggers and rootkits?
Enough,.... fuck your ads and let me play my game!

That was said on the topic of finding proof of a security hole, I don't think this is any more of a security hole than probably dozens of other applications most people have purposley installed.

However, this is still something that would keep me from buying the product. I guess that's the bottom line. I'm also not interested in paying for a cup of coffee that the server will incrementally piss in after I pay for it, even if it's sterile.

god damn you guys are morons. The only tracking going on from SWAT4 was just to keep track of how long a player would keep their focus on the ads. BIG DEAL. Theyre not stealing your identity in a plan to take over the world one stupid gamer at a time. Do me a favor and never, ever buy another game. One less dumbass to run into online or on a forum. Dont start bullshit conspiracies about adware or this and that being installed. Its probably stated somewhere in the Terms when you install the game as well.

The irony in the above post is astounding.

Try re-reading this thread and understanding people's concerns(and seeing what you "clarified" has already been stated)?

Jesus, I am looking forward to this - more single player levels? Hell yes.

The adware that I have heard of is streaming ads into the multiplayer levels, not single player, so that should lessen any security risk to the same risks you play with every time you play a game online.
I am however, against the idea on principle, I would'nt mind a "we need to pay for the server" ad while loading, but in-game ads piss me off, ruin immersion rather than helping it and generally distract me.

I think it's grimly funny that two of the best games of the year, Swat 4 and Splinter Cell 3 both have this problem.
