What use is the Xbox 360 Core system? I mean, it plays games, but not Halo and Halo 2. Xbox Live content? Not nearly as good. But what about the Xbox 360 core as just a media hub? GamesFirst has a detailed look (http://www.gamesfirst.com/?id=1061) at how well the Xbox 360 Core system stacks up against other media hubs on the market for a comparable price. Putting gaming aside, what else can your 360 Core do, and how exactly can you do it? Should you be out hunting for the hottest holiday gift on the market simply because it's a great media player as well as a game system?
The 360 does, after all, offer the significant "extra features" of playing videogames and DVDs, as well as facilitating voice (and soon, video) chat with anyone else using the Xbox 360. None of the other media hubs offer even the ability to play DVDs, let alone the next-generation gaming experience. This is enough to make it preferable to pretty much every other media hub except the D-Link DSM-320, which features significantly more convenient media browsing, much more robust video capabilities (especially using TVersity), and is half the price.
