Graphics chip manufacturer Nvidia has posted a $30 million loss. Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22249):
Chip manufacturer Nvidia, maker of the GeForce line of PC graphics cards and the graphics chip for the PlayStation 3, has revealed a loss of $30 million for its full fiscal year.
"The environment is clearly difficult and uncertain," said president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. "Our first priority is to set an operating expense level that balances cash conservation while allowing us to continue to invest in initiatives that are of great importance to the market and in which we believe we have industry leadership. We have initiatives in all areas to reduce operating expenses.
At the time of this post, NVDA has fallen 5.9% per share.

Damn that sucks I just built my shiny new NVIDIA dream system too. I got this case http://store.nvidia.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&SiteID=nvidia&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE&productID=58708300
As a giveme when NVIDIA visited my company last month; (We use Quadros for a lot of our development ) I put a couple GTX 295's and a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb. The system screams.
The low end turnkey systems they are making with MS is a smart move I think, I have a feeling that the next Xbox will return to NVIDIA as well; so while yes this news certainly sucks I wouldn't count them out

Never even knew that case existed balamoor.
A 30 million dollar loss doesn't seem that terribly bad when they had nearly a billion profit in 2007.
2008 was the year of ATI's HD series. I recently (as in, yesterday) upgraded to an HD4870 from my previous 8800 series card. Nvidia also spent a shitload of money acquiring PhysX. I think that they'll be fine.

Unless I'm missing something, there isn't any indication that they're even close to folding or anything. Unless you're are a shareholder, there's going to be little to no direct effect on you.
Maybe the GX 1 Gazillion for your next system will come out a little later than expected.
Losses in recessions will happen. What's important is that you're the strongest company standing after the recession, by taking less loses than your competitors.

This is simply because everyone who still had money to spend on video cards last fall bought a 4870x2!

Nvidia posted a loss for the first time in a long time. This is no way makes them "struggling" and most certainly doesn't mean they will be purchased by anybody.

This.
Last year, I ran into issues with the NVidia drivers for my 8800GT and my new monitor...so I decided to jump ship after having a 6600GT, 7600GT, and the 8800GT. I decided to go with the ATI 4870 and it blew my socks off.
This year, NVidia is starting to get their crap together, especially with their new line coming out, including the 285.
Man...these numbering schemes suck.

You didn't just said it sucks, you said this:
"Damn that sucks I just built my shiny new NVIDIA dream system too."
Apparently, the second half of your sentence had nothing to do with the first half. My mistake for actually trying to read some meaning into what you've now confirmed was nonsensical.
"This recession is terrible I like peanuts."
