View Full Version : WoW Arena Tournament Announced, $200K of Prizes
I noticed this while coming dangerously close to installing the WoW trial game yet again. Players will be delighted to know that realms will be kitted with template characters will be set up in order to house a brand new arena tournament for '09. Seems like there will be some cool prizes up for grabs too.
We're pleased to announce that the 2009 World of Warcraft Arena Tournament is nearly here. Starting next week (February 17, 2009), players will be able to sign up to compete in this year’s exciting competition. The tournament will feature an online qualifier played on our special tournament realms. Top teams will proceed to their respective regional finals and compete for a chance to reach the global world championship – with cash prizes totaling over $200,000.
These realms have been outfitted with level 80 character templates and the latest epic gear from Wrath of the Lich King. As an added bonus, we have included exclusive rewards that players can earn by participating in the tournament, including an Armored Murloc in-game pet. Top teams will also contend for a chance to achieve the "Vanquisher" title for their live characters.

I bet you'll have to pay to enter this tourney like the last Arena competition. I also bet a lot of players will enter just for the Armored Murloc pet.

Activision-Blizzard: Undisputed King of ripping people off. wotlk should have been a free patch. it's 99.9% recycled content.

You'd have to have class balance for it to be fair, and blizz don't care about class balance.

ofcourse, because a new class, new continent, proffesion, talents, gear, mounts, quests, raids, instances is .1%.. and most of WOTLK WAS a free patch.

A good friend of mine is trying hard to get me to play this game on the silverhand server. I am also getting dangerously close to doing so!

Arena has been and always will be unbalanced and should never have been an e-sport.

Typical I-used-to-play-WoW-but-then-I-quit guy.
I played WoW a few years ago, and quit. When I rejoined about 4 months ago, I started from stratch, and did all the original content, plus Burning Crusade, and finally the Lich King. The content in Lich King is vastly superior, the quests are more enjoyable and have a great overarching story (of which you're a part of), the phasing is ridiculously cool, and the new dungeons are accessible enough that you can run a few in a night without much trouble, unlike running one 3 hour dungeon in the past.
The free patches with Ulduar and Ice Crown Citadel are coming, which will offer tons of more content in the near future. *shrugs*
LOTRO is also great, but extremely casual, and no end game. Plus, the PvP aspect sucks, so if that's your thing, hit up WAR or WoW's arenas and Wintergrasp.
