According to this internal Best Buy newsletter (http://www.gamersreports.com/news/362/) submitted to Gamers Reports by a reader, the new shipment of Xbox 360 consoles will hit stores on December 16.

The 2nd week of December has been the rumored 2nd shipment for awhile now. Not just from Best Buy ;)
I think bigger news... ..since there was already a post about Best Buy having 360's on the 18th for an ad... ..is that the next batch of premium consoles will not have the dvd remote. Paragraph Remote with Xbox 360 Pro points out the sticker at the corner of the box indicates systems with remote included and that the next shipment will not have them.

Is this article bullshit? It also says how they are pulling Sony music CDs that are all infected with a virus?

I won't be getting one then, either. The notion of hunting one down weeks after launch? No thanks. I'll wait for MS to get it right.

I find it interesting that in the memo, it refers to the root-kit CDs as virus infected. By no means was there a virus on those CDs! In fact, they did everything that Sony wanted them to do. Just, it meant that Sony (and ingenuitive hackers) now had a backdoor into your computer.

Yeah, I totally had this news early. ;)
Also, I agree, no remote sucks donkey ass.
My post on 12/01 from this thread (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7610&page=2&pp=40):
I have a source at Best Buy that informed me that their replenishments will hit shelves on December 18th, as they are replinishing to conincide with an ad campaign. The idea is to have a reasonably large number of the units so that they can pull shoppers in with the ad and deliver for a good number of them.

Um. . . you realize that Best Buy is holding off selling units in order to have at least 20 of them to coincide with their Dec. 18th ad?
Best Buy is getting them at their distributor but sending them to stores on Dec. 16th as a marketing tool for Dec. 18th.
Other retailers are getting them around the 10th, and should have them in stores around the 12th. The reason replenishments have sucked ass for so long is that they are launching in Europe and Japane. . . and they did not have enough units for launch.

Can you still play movies on it out of the box? That does kind of suck that there's no remote. I think 100 bucks extra for the premium is crazy (if it wasn't for the 100 buck hard drive, I'd buy a Core) but some of the accessories, like the remote included, make it a bit more attractive.

How does that make it not a virus? Just because a company created it, doesn't make it legitimate. It was malicious software, it was a virus, the fact that it was made by the world of big business only makes it more sinister.
Personally, I think that the CEO of Sony needs to be sitting in prison right now for this little fiasco. If you or I did the same thing, you better believe we'd be in jail.

They already have. They've said all along, and reaffirmed, that they are shipping units to retailers continuously. There is no "2nd shipment". Systems are being shipped as they are being made.
But MS shipping systems doesn't mean they go directly onto shelves. They go through the retailers' distribution channels, standing preorders get filled, etc.
Sounds like retailers may be building up stock for a big advertisable sales weekend instead of just trickling them out as they get them.

How does that make it not a virus?
True, but on the other hand, saying that the CDs are "virus infected" seems to absolve Sony of any wrong doing. That they were just victims in the whole process, and their CDs were "infected" by this terrible thing.
The greater public needs to know that it was Sony that did it, and not some generic "hacker" who writes viruses.

Best Buy - not confirmed officialy, but Dec. 18th
Gamestop - not confirmed officially, but Dec. 10-12. However, you will have to be on their preorder list to even have a chance. Also, the top 500 or so stores will be getting 2 units on Dec. 6th.

confirmed that they are coming.. ..not that they have received shipments. If you listen to MS they sound like they have been trickling them out since release. I understand it takes time but MS seems to be passing the buck to the retailers for the supply issues. Personally I don't care, I have one. I just think MS should buck up and accept responsibility. Hell, they should pretend they were not aware of the demand their new product would have. Oh no, we can't believe how popular our new product is... ...everyone wants one... ...nobody wants to wait for that other console.. ..we will get them to you asap! instead we get... What? We mailed it out last week. What do you mean you didn't get it?

Yawn!!! Already lost interest in the xbox 360 after this whole fiasco. Seems like MS may have shot themselves in the foot with this whole release thing. Was at the game shop today and saw multiple people coming in to buy ps2's. I heard the clerk talking with one customer and he said there's been a huge demand for ps2's this season mainly due to the xbox shortage.
On another note, the stores seemed really empty this weekend despite it being 3 weeks till xmas. Has anyone else noticed the same?

I've noticed a barren wasteland near me too, at this was at Wal-Mart. Maybe people are realizing that to be happy at Christmas you don't need material possessions? Or maybe not.
If Sony dropped their PS2's price, i think even more would be sold for Xmas. As far as this 360 launch is concerned, Sony can glide into the next gen without much worry, I think. They'll outsell the 360 this Xmas and be ready to launch in Japan by the time the 360 is actually available in quantities.

I usually avoid going to the store during normal shopping hours from black friday until sometime in mid january unless it's an absolute emergency. been out a couple times this past week and there are like no lines anywhere even the mall wasn't very crowded. I've never understood the holiday shopping frenzy people get themselves worked up into. I was out early black friday and they were actually people there with those 2 way radios: "Im in housewares... go to electronics and get the TV..." You'd think they were selling the cure to cancer or something over the holidays.

Anyone who says this is worse than the PS2 launch is a complete and utter dumbass, and should have their posting priveledges revoked. Not only was demand higher and supply lower, but the games were worse, and didn't get any better for like nine months. This is nothing compared to the PS2 launch.
I just love these people who say, "Screw the 360, I'm just gonna wait on the PS3!" Well, they better pre-order right now, because it's going to be a complete shit-storm when that thing arrives in stores.

The latest RetailInsider actuall indicates that we (Best Buy stores, that is) are to hold all 360s we receive until the 18th as per the newspaper ad that will be released that week. So please don't storm us on the 16th, we won't be able to sell you anything :(
Edit: Also indicated in the latest newsletter are the minimum guaranteed allocations of 20 units per store. Actual shipment quantities are determined by sellthrough rates of 360 games and accessories, but I don't have exact numbers yet.

Im just mystified by MS's master plan to ship this thing to japan where's there's not much interest at all in it while at the same time short sheeting places like the US and europe where interest and demand are through the roof. From what I remember, the xbox has always done pretty poorly in japan because of poor support from developers in japan. I don't see what would be any different this time around.

You're right on that. I'm still mad about the crappy ps2 launch titles. I see it repeating itself for the PSP, I haven't found ANY games (except lumines, but im not really a puzzle-fan) that I think made the system worth its purchase.
The only thing that I might say will make the ps3 launch titles better is the fact that the X360 will have been out for awhile, so alot more 3rd party developers will be able to port over games they've already made...
Not only was demand higher and supply lower, but the games were worse, and didn't get any better for like nine months.

They're trying to change things. Although I can't say the X360 will be a success in Japan (it might very well flop), they have snagged alot more 3rd party japanese developers to make games that will be right up their alley...
I bet they're not going to ship out very many units to japan at first anyway, i think they're going to look very closely how it does and if there's not a great demand, then they'll cut back on manufactoring as many for them, which means more for us.

That must be one hell of a conspiriacy then that not one store in my area has sold or had any preorders filled for a 360 since launch. I suppose every single Western NY retailer is working together on this.

Shipping to your store maybe. . . but Best Buy is obviously holding them in reserve for a promotional event. Whether they are holding them for a promotion at your warehouse or in the back of the store doesn't make much difference to the consumer that is having to wait for their product.

The one you can actually buy in stores is different than the ones that came with the Premium system. It's larger, and has more functionality, especially if you own a Media Center PC. But I don't, so my remote works fine for DVD's...
Actually, come to think of it, the one in stores may function as a universal remote... I'll have to check that out.

When I was in my local EB on Friday (the one in Metrotown Mall in Burnaby, for those who know what that means), there were a number of bigger than usual boxes being loaded into the stock room with an unusual number of employees keeping their eyes on them - more than there usually are in the entire store on any given day. All questions referring to what was in those boxes were replied with "We don't know until we open them." Yeah, right...everyone in the store knew what those boxes contained. The idea of rioting was on many minds.

The boxes the 360's come in are small. There are only two systems per box. They were probably watching the boxes because it really isn't that uncommon for someone to try and bolt out of a store with a box.

I'm sorry, but that statement was utter bullshit. Ok, that was harsh, but you need to define what 'in quantities' means. If you think that there will not be a lot more 360's available between now and the summer of 06 (that is when the PS3 is now scheduled to launch in Japan), you are mistaken. Also, if you believe that MS selling out of 360's (and giving away a ton) makes Sony feel like 'gliding' into the next gen, I'd love to know your reasoning. Was this the perfect launch; of course not. Did the 360 sellout like PS2 did...yes. At least I'm having fun w/my launch titles, Fantavision...Battle Arena Toshinden? I hope Sony does launch with the same quality of title.
I may still end up getting a PS3 when it comes out, but Sony better have a strong product at an attractive price if it wants my dollar. More advanced titles start hitting the 360 in 1st Quarter next year (N3, Oblivion, Saint's Row, Full Auto, Ench Arms...) and that will move some systems.

Damn straight. Let me just say this; After playing with the revamped Xbox Live on the 360 the PS3 better have a butter interface for their system and change their mind about letting developers run the online show. Call of Duty 2 is awesome on the 360. I haven't touched Halo since I started playing it...in fact, come to think of it, I haven't played any of my old Xbox games.

No, that is about the size I am talking about. During a normal shipment I have never seen anything like the security they had going on here. Typically the delivery guy just walks in and drops a few boxes off. Usually the boxes I see coming into that store are about the size of a shoebox that hold about twenty or so copies of a game or a little bigger - nothing as big as these were. Also, the other consoles come in boxes that are clearly marked as Sony or Nintendo or whatever, while these boxes were pretty non descript aside from some shipping information and indecipherable numbers. I am not saying that it is one hundred percent guaranteed they were 360s, but everything is telling me that they were.
Regardless, it matters not to me anyhow. I am waiting until after E3 2006 before making the jump into the next generation. There is still too much for me to do with the current gen, but the games start to really run dry around the time E3 hits, so it makes sense to wait and see some more concrete stuff out of Sony and Nintendo and also just how good the second wave of games for 360 are going to be.
Oh, and the remote not being included with future shipments is no surprise. From the beginning, MS said that the remote was a bonus for early adopters. It is a bit odd that they took it out so soon though, as I would have assumed that early adopters meant more than just those who got a 360 on day one.
And now this post has gone on far too long and it is far too late so I digress...

If you think the PS2 had better launch games then you just ruined any credibility you may have had and proven yourself a Sony fanboy. That's the only explanation as there is ZERO question that the PS2's launch games were crap. As for it having more? Simple fact is that no, it did not.
The 360 may not have a Killer App in its lineup, but it's got several good to very good games.
