Joystiq has word that a new game based on the classic movie The Warriors will hit XBLA to coincide with the movie's 30th Anniversary.

Paramount Digital Entertainment has just announced a new Xbox Live Arcade game based on The Warriors, planned for release this summer. The brawler is part of a 30th anniversary celebration that will include a new comic book series and "other products and entertainment". The new game will feature, of course, the movie's trademark gangs, fighting each other.

Not by Rockstar I might add. More here. (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/new-the-warriors-game-headed-to-xbla-this-summer/)

I really dug the Rockstar PS2 game. Very very solid and a lot of fun. If I can play as The Furies, I'll probably buy it.

Never played the rockstar version. I though we might have got a rerelease of it like Bully, but no.

Rockstar's Warriors was a hell of a lot of fun. Only game i've ever had interested enough in to get 100% completion. I too wish they had brought this over to PC like Bully.

I had also hoped the mugging and the hand to hand combat would have been utilized in GTA games. GTAIV fist fighting sucks horribly in comparison and the mugging / store looting would have fit right into the GTA universe perfectly.

This is really bothering me.... there is a song or movie where someone yells out "caaaan youuuu dig iiiiit!?" in a long drawn out Jim Carrey type voice. Any idea what this is?

Seriously... not only one of my favorite movies of ll time, but now I get TWO games based on it?

I have seen this movie a hundred times easily over the years, and have always loved it. However this is ine instance where I feel the original version was far superior to the Director's Cut. I realize he intended originally for it to be based in a comic book like world, but it was always fairly gritty and realistic (barring 'themed' gangs) and I felt the Comic style additions to the movie detracted from it...

Not to mention they totally screwed up the intro of the Baseball Furies!!! The greatest gang to ever roam the streets! :D

I can dig it!!!

As I started reading that headline, I thought for a brief moment that this would be some bizarre game-related article about Booker T.

I really, really enjoyed this game on the XBox 1. You could even bump the resolution up to 720p widescreen, which was great for 2 player splitscreen.

Played the heck out of it. Unfortunately, it wasn't backwards compatible...so I've been trying to find a PS2 version to play, but they're hard to find locally :(

This arcade game may fill that gap in my heart, though :)

Doesn't look that great.

It's a beat-em-up, which is cool. Unfortunately, it looks like a shitty beat-em-up, which is bad. They're pretty much just taping The Warriors onto what appears to be a sub-par brawler.

At least we'll still have Castle Crashers.

I'd prefer a remake of River City Ransom.

Yep. :(

This is disappointing, as few things are more fun than a good coop brawler.

It looks a little bad (at least try to hit the enemies when you're making a trailer for your game), but as long I can own the city with my pantomime or rollerskater gang it will be one of the most awesome games this summer.

Two posts above me reminds me I need to fix my NES emulator on my Wii so I can get into some 2 player action in Rivet City.

Yea The Warriors by Rockstar was a great beat-em up. Dam Baseball Furies haha. Playing as the big guy with the double bat was great fun.

I'm sure they have used that movie sound sample elsewhere, but the first one that came to mind was Dumonde - Can You Dig It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEIDlYW5S4E).

Rockstar's version of the warriors was perfect, I was also surprised that they did not implement the looting/mugging system from it, into future GTA games since it was Superior. I loved the movie and the game captured it perfectly. Sadly, this game looks pretty bad, will wait and see though.

Wow, that song is actually really good.... hard enough techno to almost sound like my beloved electro-industrial. Reminds me of GOA actually. Thanks for the link!

Nice how the stuck the melody of the "lose my self control" 80s song in there....

Oh man... I just remembered where I heard this before! Adam Sandler in the Bedtime Stories trailer, uses the exact same "can u dig it" line, with the same delivery. My wife had to remind me, but mystery solved. And yeah, I rented the Warriors Blu-Ray. Its just that I've tended to ignore always any movies released before 1980.

Bedtime Stories would make a fun platformer wouldn't it.

I love The Warriors, but holy crap does that look awful. Stiff, bland, and with the Warriors license tacked-on - looks like a pass.
