Once again the weekend is here. I received yesterday Gothic 2 Gold, Spellforce Platinum, and Silent Storm Gold. As I gleefully opened the box, my wife looked in and said, "Great! Christmas presents from the girls." She promptly took my games and has now hidden them. So, at least I know I got some great xmas gifts to look forward to. Other then wanting to play those games, I will be doing a lot of work, playing some WoW (after 5 months of not playing, I am finding it again to be fun - though the travel times are horrendous (though not as bad as EQ first was)), and some CoH.

What games will you not be getting until the holiday season? What are you playing this weekend?

I'm going to probably finish off Kameo this weekend and avoid Perfect Dark, which is starting to piss me off with it's retarded AI and non-flexible gameplay paths. It's basically a very pretty game of trial and error, which is pretty lame.

By the way, does anyone know if the new 360 Marketplace games are up? I'd like to grab Wik and maybe Robotron if they are, but I have to go over someone else's house to find a broadband connection, so it would help if I knew in advance to save myself the hassel.

Amen. I haven't started Kameo yet, gonna do that this weekend.

PDZ just isn't doing it for me. I also don't like the weapons - Halo and Halo 2 have ruined 'cool' guns for every other game. If it doesn't fire with the same satisfaction as the Plasma Rifle/Assault Rifle, then it ain't worth playing with. Granted, I'm only working on the second level of PDZ....

Wishing I had a Xbox 360 and playing PC games. Friend of mine that quit SWG at the same time I did (about 1 year after it came out) has gone back to try out all the changes. He indicates it appears that the changes are mostly positive in nature, so I might re-load SWG and give it a spin.

Everyone keeps mentioning Gothic II and spooging about Gothic III coming soon, so I probably should get my hands on Gothic II and give it a wirl. I wonder if Best Buy has a copy?

I just got Wild ARMS: Alter Code F in the mail, so I'm playing that.

Also, I'm in the beta for a game I can't name but would like to write a preview for when the NDA is lifted, so I'm tyring to give that some more hours of playing.

Mostly though, I'm finishing up a bunch of stupid crap for my creative writing class, and creating a "collage" for my Stagecraft class (my "fun" electives are turning out to be the most work which is not unusual).

Oh, and I'm now REALLY REALLY wishing I had not returned my X360 and instead sent it back to Best Buy. I had kind of assumed that my local Gamestop would have had 3 more units in by now. . . but nada so far. Stupid European release and upcoming Japanese release. *cries* Not that I deserve the system more or anything, but now that I have tasted the 360's fruits, it sucks to be shut out of the garden.

Probably gonna pick up Call of Duty 2 for the PC.

Also thinking of getting Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube...the reviews have been too positive for me to allow my hatred of the Gamecube get in the way of what could be a memorable gaming experience.

Wanted to find something this week to give my “new” ATI RADEON X800 Pro 256MB a challenge. I’m not one to spend new prices for games so I spent a half hour debating about DOOM3 or FEAR and then I figure it out.

I hate loading CDs so I said to myself “I’ll pick for the DVD only, reasonable titles". Man I’m glad I did cause I was just looking down at that symbol PC DVD you know the one. An it came up quick a 24.99er. T.C.S.C.C.T!

The new Splinter Cell is tremendous! The graphics are incredible and run great on my new video card. Pick this game up if you enjoy stealth 3rd person shooters.

I finished up the single player part of PD0 last weekend and I whole heartedly concurr that the missions are lame, lame, lame. After the lame ass first "VR" mission I thought things might get better but they really don't. I am enjoying the multiplayer though. It's nowhere near as fun as Halo or Halo2 but I really dig the infected game mode.

This weekend I'll probably try to tackle some PGR3, play more PD0 multi and attempt to reach 500,000 in geometry wars.

I just spent a bit more time with R&C3 last night. Fun times.

That said, I really enjoyed Jak 2 & 3. Jak 2 is insanely hard (mostly due to the stupid racing segments) but Jak 3 is a more balanced game.

Let's see. I just got my ship in DQVIII last night (hurray for overnight shifts!) and will hopefully spend more time playing Dragon Quest when I'm not working this weekend. I'm also working on Warrior Within again as my copy of The Two Thrones is arriving on monday (hopefully) and I wouldn't mind putting Warrior Within to rest.

Of course, any time when I can't use the TV to play my consoles will be spent playing WoW and trying to catch up to my friends who went from being about 10 levels behind me to now almost hitting 60.

DQVIII. The obsession continues...
I rented this one, and although there's alot to like about the game, Square's continuous desire to suck my time away with repetitive random battles is ripping nearly all the fun from the game. Story seems very standard so far, but I love the overall style.

Not getting until holiday season: Civ4, F.E.A.R., and Heroes of the Pacific
Playing this weekend: Fable: TLC (I'm one fight away from finishing it), probably start Q4 again on General, maybe finish the last mission or two of DoW: Winter Assault and give Far Cry some time (came with my video card, no real interest in quasi-realistic shooters).

All of you Perfect Dark Zero dissenters should definitely dive head first into Kameo, the more I play it the more I am amazed. I can't remember the last time I tooled around so much in a game simply becaues I did not want it to end (and I"m only about half way through). I think the different creatures play mechanics result in some of the most original gameplay I've seen and the worlds are so beautiful and alive it just makes you want to stand still and take it all in on a regular basis. No question the "good" Rare employees were the ones working on Kameo. I sincerely hope this game does well at retail because, unlike most of the games that recieve them, Kameo is a game that deserves a sequel. The world design and the concept is just too great to let lie.

Jak and Daxter is aweseome. I beat 10 times, not joking. Great fun.

Medal of Honor: Frontline...however I'm aggrivated. Getting all gold's is a pain. You may kill everyone, but if you don't trigger the bad guy nazi-closets by using the machine-gun, you can't get the 95%. I did one I missed, but forgot another one...

I received my Mario Kart DS bundle earlier this week. I absolutely love the DS and I am so glad I waited for the Mario Kart bundle. The red DS is sweet! So, this weekend, it is all about the DS which includes Mario Kart DS, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time and Metroid Prime Pinball. I haven't started Mario and Luigi yet; absolutely loved Superstar Saga on the GBA so I can't wait.

Besides the DS, I would like to finish up Beyond Good and Evil on the Xbox; another totally excellent game.

I played the demo of DQ VIII, and while I had a good time there is no question which of the two gets my vote. I wouldn't necessarily argue that Kameo alone is worth the full price of the system, but I will say this: if you own a 360 and you have not played nor intend to play Kameo, you have wasted your money. It is the best launch game, hands down, in terms of originality, in terms of graphics, and in terms of just plain fun. I like Call of Duty and PGR too, and they are great to show off to your friends to impress them immediately. But Kameo is so much more of a fully realized and original gameworld that it just seems downright wrong to compair to a WWII FPS or a Racing Sim.

Wait a minute - are your wife and my wife related? Or even the same?? Because that's TOTALLY what my wife would do. She would let me sniff the packaging and then whisk it off to her favorite hiding place, wherever that may be!

Anyway, I'll start with Gun on PC and move on to MoH: European Assault for Xbox (but played on my 360) and finish with CoD 2 and PGR 3, again on my 360. All tomorrow as I'm landscaping my front yard on Sunday...

The thing is, DQ costs 40 bucks, lasts upwards of a hundred hours or more, and celebrates the old-school RPG. I'm not saying it's the best game ever, but it's certainly one of the best RPGs of the year, and that's with a pretty standard plot.

Kameo costs 50 bucks, on top of a 360 that is anywhere from 300-400 bucks, and lasts 9 hours. I'm sure Kameo is a wonderful game, and one I intend to play after purchasing a 360 sometime late next year or even 2007, but I like a lot of bang for my buck, and I can't justify spending 450 bucks for 9 hours. I wish Kameo had come out for the Cube when it was supposed to, years ago, because then it wouldn't require purchasing a new expensive system to play...a system that right now has nothing else that intrigues me game-wise.

It's eerie, in a way. DQVIII probably lasts longer than all of the non-sports 360 titles released at launch put together. Length doesnt equal a great game, but this one seems to be a gobstopper of a treat.

I consider the price of the 360 an investment for gaming for the next 4-5 years and as such, I don't feel like I have to get "my money's worth" in the first two weeks I own it. As far as Kameo goes, I believe we have had this discussion before, we just game in different ways and for different reasons. I don't have a lot of time to kill. In fact, with teaching, research assistantship work, and thesis work, I don't have much time at all for gaming. So for me 9 hours of packed gameplay is worth more than 100 hours of good gameplay with heavy doses of filler material.

And even if I did have the time, I find usual tire of even most "good" games before they even reach 20 hours as the designers have long since run out of interesting gameplay ideas by that point. And I have yet to see a game with a storyline that truly "grips" me enough for that alone to be a compelling enough reason to trudge onward. Usually I just end up finishing them to gain a sense of completion, but I'd much rather have had a shorter, tighter woven gameplay experience, which is what Kameo seems to be.

Don't sweat it. By the time you can get one, there will be more games to play, more online activities, and more people to play against. Odds are pretty good the hardware might be a bit more reliable by then, as well.

You'll probably be able to get used copies of the release games pretty cheap too.

I'm about halfway through the Perfect Dark Zero single player campaign and I may choose to abandon it. The story is lifeless and the missions are quite lame. After the exhilirating COD 2 single player campaign this just doesn't compare.

There is a ray of hope, though. I've started to play more and more multiplayer PDZ and it's getting better all the time. It has been completely lag-free for me - even with large groups of 20-30 players.

I think there's a lot of long term potential for the multiplayer. Anyone out there done any splitscreen or system linking?

PDZ's single-player is, quite simply, crap. But it's multiplayer is probably the best as far as consoles go... I've been enjoying it quite a bit, the cover system especially... Plus, if you buy the sword instead of a gun it's like Jedi vs Mercenaries.

Despite the fact that I already had a kick arse computer with a 7800 GTX, I'm well impressed with the 360. Games through my HDTV at 720p look as good as I need them to at the moment, the live stuff is solid and the controller is pretty awesome.

I'll be trying to get time with the 360. I've had it since launch day and have only made a dent in most of the games I have (Kameo, PD0, Project Gotham, and Call of Duty).

PD0 is hard to get into. . . I'm hoping I start to care about doing the missions.

Kameo, so far, is the one I'm enjoying the most. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten better reviews. Seems like the only games of this type that get good reviews have to have Link in them.

Speaking of Kameo reviews, I just got the new EGM in the mail today and they gave the game a two 6's and a 7. I am not usually one to put much of an emotional investment into game reviews, but that review made me downright angry. I feeling is probaby that the reviewers either rushed through the game to get the review out, or didn't even have ample time to play through it. When you have the time to just live in Kameo's world for a while, you can really appreciate the originality and artistry that went into its creation.

I'm still - after six months! - playing Lumines just about every day. I'm still trying to hit that elusive 999,999 score, and I'm almost there. It's just difficult to keep going when each trial takes over 90 minutes.

I'm also back on Final Fantasy VII. Though it's not quite my favorite - that's a toss-up between VI and X - it's a very close second, and it has what I deem the character progression/leveling system of any of the games. I'm hoping to go overboard with it - get Final Heaven before it's too late, kill off the Weapons, etc. It'll be my third time through but the first I've ever thoroughly dominated it.

Hrm, I'm working this weekend and won't have much time for games. Though once again, thanks to my DS, I've managed to get a little time in with Trauma Center: Under the Knife. It's everything I hoped it would be.

Don't sweat it. By the time you can get one, there will be more games to play, more online activities, and more people to play against. Odds are pretty good the hardware might be a bit more reliable by then, as well.

Very good Point!! :)

It's not "cool" to enjoy cute platformers anymore. You need teh sex and violence. Now if Kameo was a fairy prostitute, the reviews would of shot up two or three points...

This so isn't true.

There are plenty of good games that are "cute" that still get good ratings from reviewers. Then again, I don't EVER try to defend EGM's reviews. . . they seem to be more all over the place than any other mag or site. Actually, there is probably some no name that is even worse, but I just don't know of them.

Gamespot, one of the toughest reviewers out there, gave Kameo an 8.7. You could argue that this is a bit low, but if you read their rating system, you will realize that this means that Kameo is a "must-play" although you might be able to get by with just a rental.

That, in fact, is the only problem that the reviewer had with it. The game got all 9's (for superb) except for a 7 in value, as it is only an 8 to 10 hour game.

I thought the gamespot review a very good and fair assesment. But the EGM reviews don't even sound like they played the same game I did. I think the more likely culprit is crunch time deadlines. There are a lot of games that I imagine are not very much fun when you are forced to just speed play them rather than allowing them the proper time to discover all they have to offer.
