Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/extras/2005/120205_oblivion_1.x) has a preview of Oblivion.
Exploration can be done on foot or on the back of a noble steed. Horses speed up the traveling process and are also used as a status symbol. They're pricey, which means owning one is quite an achievement. Of course, owning a horse isn't your only option; you can also steal them should you feel so inclined. However, upon dismounting, the stolen mount will make immediate tracks back to its rightful master, so plunking down the necessary gold is your best option in the end, though you could always go from city to city by means of stolen horses. There are many different breeds of horses, all with their own levels of speed and health, so you'll have to travel to different locations if you want to find your horse soul-mate.
Nothing really new in this preview - but it just reminds you how great this game could be and will probably make BAPenguin more impatient. Heck, I am starting to get impatient.

I've gone from crazy excited about this game to pretty excited, luke warm, pretty much turned off, and now I think I've leveled off at "going to buy."
I just hope it's released before next summer.

Im not getting my hopes up too high. The previous installment ran like a dog even on the most beefed up system. I want to like it but there just seems to be a bit of a gap between the great concept of a totally open ended RPG, and its execution

I personally can't wait for this to come out. When ever that may be. I have nothing but faith in Bethesda. Even if the game has some slow down issues I will just turn the graphics down until the issues are resolved, just like I did with Morrowind. I'm picking up Gothic2 this weekend to help me with the long wait before Oblivion is released. I'm also thinking about playing through Morrowind again, this time as a Vampire and being evil as all hell, using all these evil mods (http://www.mwmythicmods.com/Archives/Mods/Evil%20Mod%20List_1.htm).
There's only one reason why I'm getting ancy about the Bethesda team releasing Oblivion soon, and that's only because as soon as they get that released, they'll start working on Fallout 3. :D :D :D

Negative commander, does not compute. Morrowind runs silky smooth on my system, and that was before the latest round of upgrades I made to it.

When it first came out it did. Systems have gotten a little more powerfull since then.

Oh man, I can't WAIT for this game. It's going to be good, and much like Nesta said, completion of Oblivion means more work on Fallout 3! w00t...

Granted. He just seemed to be making the claim that Morrowind couldn't run well on any system.

Actually if you check the Jobs section of the bethsoft site, you'll see they have Game Programmer positions open in two separate locations. Wouldn't surprise me if Fallout 3 is being worked on already.

I dont' know, but I just find that so funny. Between this and NPC lighting thier pets on fire, this is going to be an awsome game.

Yeah, I really liked hearing about the stolen horse thing. It's a great idea. I love anything that gives players freedom to take certain courses of action, without making one option so overwhelmingly desirable (stealing a horse for keeps versus paying like a sucker) as to overwhelm all other choices.
Idiot developers leave in the unbalanced choices. Proficient developers take the choice away, since a competent player would always choose one option and thus it isn't a meaningful decision. Great developers figure out a way to balance the choice.
A perilous hero is what is needed.
By the way, that was a really horribly written article. Translated by Babelfish perhaps?

dun knock babelfish just because he doesn't know english that well. He's a pretty good guy once you get to know him, doesn't drink enough for my tastes...but then I'm pretty demanding in that way :)

Have they fixed the goddamn animations yet? In the last video they released, the textures, models and shaders, and the physics, looked like a glimpse of the future, but every single animation was amateurish and jerky, like you'd expect from a 1995 game.

I love taking phrases and translating them in Babelfish to another language and then back to english. Cheap amusement is a good thing.
Example:
I may take cliches and translate her in Babelfish to another language and then back to English. Inexpensive maintenance is a good thing.

I've gone into "I don't care" mode, mostly because I can wait. I don't know, I just don't get excited anymore for games, or anticipate them like I used to. I hate being jaded.
Still, I do want to play this, and will when it finally comes out. Until them, I can wait. Also, I don't think I'll be able to play it on my current PC, and since I'm not going to buy a 360 anytime soon, I probably wont be able to play it at all...for awhile.

Yeah, their animations suck. Everything else looks good. Too bad animations are so important. In fact, I'd gladly take a superbly animated game with worse textures, shaders, etc.

That's weird... It ran absolutely fantastic on my AMD 650MHz machine. Not sure what kind of problems you had, but it worked great for me. I only had 512MB of ram too!

Here is what BabelFish does to YOUR statement, genius! :)
Yes, I loved really hearing concerning the stolen horse thing. It is a large idea. I love no matter what which player freedom give certain cursussen of action to take, without making one option overwhelming desirably this way (a stealing horse for maintenance compared with paying as an embranchement) to overwhelm all other choices. The developers of the idiot go in the choices brought from its balance gone. The competent developers mean the choice, since a competent player would choose always one option and this way it is no significant decision. The large developers couples from a way for to bring the choice in balance.
looking at how much work they put into this game, the game will probably be huge, as in game wise and in amounts of gigabytes. The game will probably come on 3 DVDs or something.
