In a conference call recently Riccitiello let loose that there was a new Bad Company coming. Today though, DICE has issued an official press release announcing it, as well as revealing a new downloadable title called Battlefield 1943 for PC/XBLA/PSN.

DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc studio, today announced the development of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster title. In this installment, the Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game. To get ready for the assault this winter, players can prepare for action in Battlefield 1943, an all-new multiplayer game available this summer via PlayStation®Store, Xbox LIVE Marketplace and on the PC.

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the ‘B’ company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite™ engine can. Either online or offline, enemies will soon learn there is nowhere to hide. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and the PC.

I feel that something was lost between Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 as the first was way more enjoyable then the last. Any how I personally am not nor have I ever been bored of WW2 games bring it on.

DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc studio (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced the development of Battlefield: Bad Company 2™, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster title. To get ready for the assault this winter, players can prepare for action in Battlefield 1943™, an all-new multiplayer game available this summer via PlayStation®Store, Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and on the PC.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the PC.

Using the same Frostbite™ engine, Battlefield 1943 takes players back to WWII. The game offers endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Delivering the award-winning through-the-gun and vehicle warfare online experience DICE is best recognized for, Battlefield 1943 will have players battling in ruthless aerial dog fights and intense trench combat. Players can see the game in action at New York Comic Con (Booth #1441) from February 6th-8th.

“Bad Company 2 takes everything that players liked in the original and ups the ante – more vehicles, more destruction and more team play,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise, DICE. “Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we’re eager to get into players hands.”

AND PC? ... good stuff! Disappointed when the first one was only a console release.

Direct sequel as in not ruined by consoles? I'll take it! What do you mean I took it too literally? Not a direct sequel? Boo!

Bad Company was terrible.

loved the naval maps in BF:1942. I hope they will have several of them.

Nice.

I hope they fix the "floaty" controls this time. Otherwise a great game.

I wasn't happy with the way the Multiplayer seemed to be based so much on luck and where you spawned and if you happened to have the right weapon against the right opponent. But overall I really enjoyed the game.

Battlefield Bad Company multiplayer is a blast. My most played multiplayer game of 08. Awesome vehicle action, tons of weapons and tons of fun with a few squad members.

Did anyone else read this line in the press release and get a little nervous?

"The game offers endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima."

At first glance it looks like we've got three maps to play with... that would suck. Damn I really hope I read that wrong, or that there is more maps that will come later....

So BF1943 has 3 maps and BFH has what, 5?
Is it me or Dice is now in the business of doing arcade titles instead of true full games?

As fun as BF1943 looks, I'm already disappointed that it's not a real full sequel to BF2. I'm still hoping for BF3 but now the odds of that title being worked on are next to nil.

as a huge BF1942 nerd, I am ecstatic to see the old gal all prettied up for a few more evenings out.
eurogamer has a neat movie up:

I see a few interesting differences. Are those B-25s? I wonder if they're pilotable, or if they're incorporating some sort of Call of Duty style earned-airstrikes? Also, I thought I saw a Zero dropping two bombs at once - which will make life hell for the guys in the tanks (if the armor/dmg values are otherwise the same.)

That killed it for me. Nobody would want realistically fight over places that are cold.
