Looks like Red Dead Revolver is finally getting a sequel this coming fall with Red Dead Redemption.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego, as a follow up to the 2004 hit game, Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier.

"The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be."

Utilizing Rockstar's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions.

Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world's last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.

I like westerns, lets hope this one rocks my red dead ass.

I maintain that the western genre has been long ignored by the gaming public. Why do we get 100 games about space marines and maybe 5 westerns?

And if you say you do not like westerns, they have pretty much the exact same motifs as games with Zombies and those set in a Post-Apocalypic world. If only they would make a Deadlands game, I could die happy.

Loved Red Dead Revolver, just wished it was more sandbox-y.
If this delivers... wow.

The western genre has been stuck in a kind of chicken-and-egg situation for the entire history of computer gaming. There are no great western games, so they don't sell well compared to space fantasy. So publishers are reluctant to put money into making great western games.

Hopefully this is finally starting to change.

The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty

Probably more Moab, Utah scenery FTW. There was some in Red Dead Revolver (Turret Arch and more) and there were several area petroglyph/pictograph (Indian rock art) panels that were featured in Gun.

Dozens of western movies have been filmed here. It really is a great place for old west shootouts and ambushes. In truth, that's how many Moab locals pass the time, what with no big city amenities to distract us.

I think i remember liking RDR. I'm having a tough time though, distinguishing between this and Gun, even after looking at screenshots

Let me also applaud Rockstar for going with a proper title and not just slapping a 2 onto the end of it!

This made my week, I absolutely loved red dead revolver. The Style, fun missions, and just balls out badass combat. I wonder if they'll ever explain what happen to the british trick shooter. Anyways, REally looking forward to it.

RDR could of used a bit more polish, I remember killing most of the bosses hiding in areas they couldn't reach due to the bugs. I did have fun with it though so more power to them. Didn't the original start at Capcom and was then dropped and picked up by Rockstar? It'll be interesting to see Rockstar carry the whole thing through from start to finish.

I second the motion for another Gun game, I loved that one.

atariv8, yes you are correct. RDR was originally developed by Capcom and they just couldn't figure out the "Western aspect of it without too much Japanese weirdness attached" in order to appeal to US market. R* or T2 saw it at one of them E3's which led at first to development consulting later to just buying the IP off them. However R* did preserve some of the Capcom flavor intact and weird boss encounters.

Eurogamer posted (http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?game_id=11104&article_id=402500) a gallery of what they say is the first glimpse at Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. You can find more information at the official site (http://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption/), look for a release this fall.

No wonder RDR reminded me of God Hand.

Sandbox-y would be nice, but I just home they keep some of the weirder aspects from the first...specifically, the Deadeye ability. I loved being able to lock on to an enemy six times and fire all of my bullets nigh-simultaneously. It was a thing of beauty.

God Hand is a masterpiece! I still have it somewhere, gotta try to play thru it again.

A Deadlands game would be utterly awesome. Nothing could beat Zombies in a western setting :P

You'll never get it, Neversoft is now inhabited entirely with the parasite called Guitar Hero.

You can have my copy because it is most certainly not a masterpiece. I'm actually really worried MadWorld will be too similar.

I'm pretty excited about this though. Although I haven't played the original I like western games. Call of Juarez and Gun are both personal favorites.

Really? Maybe you need to give God Hand another chance. It's difficult and camera is kind of weird but once you get past that and unlock all the fun super moves the game opens up a whole lot. The boss encounters are really memorable too.

Call of Juarez could have been awesome but i felt it tried too hard and Billy's story was not needed. The whole trial and error sneaking was just such a meh and don't remind me of retarded whip swinging mechanics!
The game sure was pretty thou.
