Well I have just popped onto the jobs section for Bungie (http://www.bungie.net/) and saw this:
Plusses:
* Previous console experience
* Professional C/C++ coding experience
* Expertise in a specialist area (such as mathematics, physics, networking, AI or graphics)
* Experience working in a team environment and good communication skills
* History of hobbyist game programming, mod or bot work
* A love of combat on the high seasLinky (http://www.bungie.net/Inside/Page.aspx?section=Jobs&subsection=Main&page=1#GENP)
Maybe this means Bungie aren't making Halo 3? Possibly a pirate game?

My god....if they are making a pirate game, with ninjas and zombies....I'll cry tears of joy.

That would be a great game, Pimps at Sea. Oh please god let them, or at least someone, make that game!

I think you maybe confused, they are simply looking for a programmer that also happens to be a swashbuckling pirate from the 1700s. I mean really, what are you people on?
Yarr.
Edit: Please do something about that J-list advertisement, I find myself constantly distracted by the girl in the bikini top. Showing her navel was just totally unfair.

Maybe Halo 3 takes place ON THE HIGH SEA!

Is Bungie only doing Xbox stuff these days or are they multi platformed?
Last of the Red Hot Mamas
12-01-2005, 11:44 AM
Um, Microsoft owns them.
Pretty sure the "high seas" stuff is a joke. Bungie's made lots of goofy pirate references over the years, "Pimps at Sea" just happened to be the most elaborate.

I don't believe there's anything stating they can't do PC games, but it's highly unlikely Microsoft will let them. Even though Ensemble Studios (Age of Empire) still does PC-exclusives, they're also a RTS developer, and most of Bungie's game are suitable for consoles. Since Microsoft pushes Xbox gaming much harder than PC gaming, and since most of their current fanbase now knows them from Halo, they're likely to stick to the Xbox for the forseeable future.
Unless by multiplatform you meant multi-console, in which case, no. Microsoft bought them in 2000 or so.

I was mainly asking about PC, but forgot to put that down. Bungie use to do RTS's back in the day, and would be cool to see them do another. Remember Myth?

Its not always a great idea to mix your hobbies with your career. In the end you just get burned out on the thing you love. Though I know this isn't a universal rule, its something to consider. In my case, I used to love peircings and the counter culture that went along with them. After five years of stabbing people for a living, I can honestly say that I wouldn't care to ever get or perform another body modification. Its not that I hate them now, just seriously burned out.
Just my two cents though.

I've done C++ for a while, am going to be getting an MSc in CS (couple more years mind) and I am also making little games and mods myself to get used to the tools and starting to hook up on larger teams. I have a friend who is a programmer in Lionhead, he worked on the Black and White 2 team, who has told me that the "Dare to be Digital" competition is great for your profile when applying to a games industry job, google it up.

The obvious answer is that Bungie are moving their development studios offshore onto a floating platform or yacht in order to avoid paying the US' high taxes. That "high seas" thing is code for "must be willing to work in illegal tax haven".

No fair ruining all our fun, dolbex.
And here we thought Bungie's next game might come with complimentary eyepatch.
By the way, does anyone know how large Bungie is? Are they capable of taking on more than one project at a time?

Considering they more then doubled their team recently, its possible. Also considering that they had a bunch of people working on the game codenamed Pheonix but moved them to Halo 2 to get it finished, I think that they are capable of it.

I starred in porn for a couple years and yes, you certainly get burned out. Making a hobby into your career isn't always smart.
Same can be said about McDonald's employees hating McDonald's food.

It's a kind of bread/biscuit stick covered in chocolate or various flavoured mousses. Some are nice, some, like the red wine variety are like having Gumby jizz in your mouth (in a bad way, I know you had some sort of gleam in your eye when you read that).
Really, it's just alright, but the amount of money people pay for it shipped over is a tad extreme.

Some of the best flavours are seasonal and regional. The pineapple one (only available in Okinawa) is quite tasty and the winter ones can be a bit rich, but good in small doses. The same company makes a lot of similar sweets and they have a Tirimisu one which is really nice.

Actually you're ALL wrong. Bungie secretly is Microsoft's parent company. They like it that way so they don't take all the heat that Microsoft does.

Well its obvious that Bungie has claimed their side in the epic struggle of....
PIRATE vs NINJA
The pirates will be quite a formidable opponent with Master Chief on their side, that guy can take out frickin armardas all by himself.

doubtful. master chief is a marine, the natural predator of the pirate.

Probably it means you're just a gaming dork like the rest of us. A little otaku here and there is pretty much par for the course.
Back on topic, I think Bungie should make a pirate game where you pirate games. Winning would involve being arrested by the FBI in real life. Wouldn't bode well for sequels, though.
