How does Paul Blart make 14 million let alone 14 million in it's 3rd or 4th week?

It's nice to see Slumdog doing so well. This must be the first time in a while that a movie has had success primarily because it's a quality film. Unlike Blart, the bastard child of America's declining intelligence and skyrocketing body mass index.

Froggy,

Juno and Little Miss Sunshine also got a lot of theatrical goodwill once the Oscar nominations were announced.

All the awards pretty much boosted Slumdog's take, I'm interested to see how it's going to do at the Oscars.

Saw 'Taken'. Liked it alot. Great action like the 'Bourne' trilogy, but just a tad more gritty.

Seeing Liam Neeson kick ass without a light saber was refreshing.

OMFG!!!! I was totally dismissing Slumdog Millionaire as another stupid ghetto hip-hop movie (blame really bad advertising, a bad poster, and the title), only to see it is directed by DANNY BOYLE! Oh man, I must see this now!!!!

Dude, I thought the same thing for a while. I wonder how many people are still missing out because they think it's "Take it 2 Tha Streetz 2."

Yeah, Taken was a straight to DVD release here in Australia too. Came out early Jan.

It hit cinemas first here in about November? I got totally trashed by critics and really didn't deserve the punishment. It's a cool film but perhaps they delayed/re-arranged release because of the media reaction.

read the book Q and A and i have to say if the film is anything like the book, good, makes you open your eyes a little bit as well considering I work with a lot of middle eastern people

I haven't watched it, I don't think it's mind blowing but it's a nice 'humanizing' film. I could step back and say this is a movie praised to stir sympathy towards middle eastern people in the west but that would just be downright cynical of me, I mean it worked for african american people didn't it?(did i hit below the belt there?) And soon we'll have Middle Eastern Entertainment television.

Yes life is absolute shit over there. Means justifying the ends takes on a whole new meaning. Over rated? I wouldn't know since I haven't seen the movie. I read the book from hearing about it from a friend and it was a neat little story.

I'm not going to hate on the movie because it gets too much hype.

I understand the nothing special about this story however. That doesn't take away from it however that the setting is very much real and common place that it is believable. Not that all of that could happen to one person but the situations. It's just another facet of humanity with the same story.

I have to agree here. Slumdog was "watchable" but it's nowhere near worth the hype and awards it's getting. I wouldn't consider it a top20 movie out of those ~70 movies I have seen with a 2008 release date.

I just watched the movie and I have to say... the movie sucks. The book was heads above better. Bollywoodized I would say but there's no singing and dancing so that would not be completely true.

Really? While I haven't seen slumdog it can't been more overrated than Lost in Translation was and still is. That has to be one of the worst movies of all time and still gets talked about like it was great.
