BioWare Community Coordinator, Chris Priestly, has announced (http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=666035&forum=125) a new patch is on the way for the PC version of Mass Effect.
Hello Mass Effect fans
We have been watching the different Mass Effect PC forum communities and gathering your feedback on issues encountered while playing Mass Effect PC. Thank you all for taking the time to provide feedback to help us make Mass Effect PC a better game.
BioWare is pleased to announce there will be a new patch for Mass Effect for the PC coming soon. This patch will be jointly developed by BioWare and Demiurge and will be available for all versions of Mass Effect PC (retail, Steam and other digital distribution sources). When we have more information on the content of the patch or when it will be available, we will let you know.
Note: EA recently dropped the price of Mass Effect to $20. You can get if from Direct2Drive (http://www.direct2drive.com/3/6032/product/Buy-Mass-Effect-Download) or Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/17460/).

This patch in long overdue. Mass Effect has a well earned reputation for random crashes. I've played the PC version twice and it has crashed on me about five times*. I did not encounter any show stoppers, I do recommend you save often though. Other than that, it is an excellent game.
* The problem appears to be worse for people with rigs near the minimum system requirements.

For $20 I'd buy it immediately. Being located in EU though, it costs only $59 from Steam. Good times and triple prices.

Beaten the PC version once among two different machines and never had a crash.
Best BioWare game since KOTOR.
One of the best sci-fi RPGs ever. Can't wait for part two and three.

It's about time! I can't even get it to start. It doesn't go past the splash screen without crapping out.
I have more than the min specs and have done all sorts of voodoo with my machine, but all that did was make the error messages different.
It was $20, so I'm not all that uptight about it, because some day I will play it when it's finally fixed.

Possibly one of the shittiest rpg's ever developed which somehow garnered popularity with mainstream casual gamers. Its effectively the rpg equivalent of halo, cookie cutter rubbish dumbed down to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I enjoyed the game but was expecting much more so I was kinda disappointed at the same time.
Easily worth $20 though.

Shame on BioWare for such a transparent attempt to get some free press. "We're making a patch for our game (well, Demiurge is anyway), only we don't know what is actually in it, or even when it'll be released. Stay tuned!"
Yeah? Well, pardon me for not getting all giddy over your useless announcement.

Hey, I believe you are wrong.
Edit: That comment was a little over the line Virtuoso.

Mass Effect was designed from the beginning to be an action RPG so what's the problem? You still have Dragon Age for old RPG goodness.

Feel better now? Life's not treating you well? You wanna tell us how you really feel?
I like to think of them as games made for people with actual lives in between their gameplay sessions. For whom video games are just that, games. Not the core of their entire fucking existence.

He's right. The game sucked, and if it had been anyone but Bioware, I would have given it some slack, but after the majesty that was BG2, they were obligated to put forth something halfway competent, which they did not. Crashing, lame FPS elements, bugs, cliche plotlines, underdeveloped romance, and uninteresting alien races we've all seen before (Borg as the final bad guy?!).
An epic fish filet of FAIL.

Underdeveloped romance? Are we still talking about a fucking game here?
You're trying way, way too hard. Anyway, I really enjoyed the game. SO WHO WINS HUH!? ;)

At least you can buy it from steam, doesn't even appear if you're located in the UK.

If you're looking for a copy I noticed when I was working on the article that Direct2Drive has Mass Effect for £29.20 (http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/3/6131/product/Buy-Mass-Effect-UK-Download).

I've played through on the 360 already, I'm just getting more and more annoyed with the amount of games that aren't on sale on steam in the UK.
Mass Effect = 3d Moon Patrol RPG with clunky 3rd person party combat.
To say this was as good as kotor is shameful.

Must be hard having to read other peoples opinions that are not consistent with your own. Your universe and reality must be crumbling around you knowing that there are people out there who thought ME was a mediocre experience at best.

And that somehow gives developers a pass card to churn out shitty games to their hearts content? Okay, if you are happy wasting your hard earned dollars on mediocre tripe.

Here's the price for Mass Effect on Steam in Denmark = 45 Euros = about 300 Danish Crowns (DKK). http://store.steampowered.com/app/17460/
Bioware still supports their games (unlike some other companies) with this (new) patch. The content probably deals with many of the issues people have talked and posted about in the Bioware boards, both in the tech forum and other ME forums.
And just be glad that Bioware and Demiurge are working together on this. And that we get a heads up before the patch is out. Other companies would just release the patch....

There are ways to express your opinions without coming off as a pompous asshole. Grow up.

Oh yes. A shitty game with a metacritic score of 91 (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/masseffect?q=mass%20effect).

Had I bought this at release day, I'd already be out of activations. Here's hoping for activation revoke tool..
