If you don't want to shell out the $7.50 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/9450/) to participate in the Dawn of War II beta, you can still drool over a new 20-minute Orks vs. Eldar multiplayer video (http://community.dawnofwar2.com/blogs/?cat=26) from the developers.

That was actually pretty cool as a hardcore 40k fan who didn't play much DoW1.

I can wait 5 more days for the public beta. Though, $7.50 is a tempting price to complete the collection for me...

Seems to me you get a full-fledged retail game for your $7.50, plus beta access. Sounds like a good deal.

Meh, Soulstorm isn't worth that price.

Yeah soulstorm was meh. DoW 2 is kinda looking Meh from that video too. Watching them gave me the impression they were playing vs easy CPUs and it was so borring I didn't finish.

So far the multi-player beta has been *very* cool.
I particularly like how the multiplayer teams are designed to interact in interesting ways. For example: as the space-marine "medic" hero, one of your special abilities is to rez your teammates fallen heroes. Clever interplay between the abilities of different heroes and races gives the game a *ton* more depth than the usual "you manage your team, I manage mine, and we'll gang up at some point."
I also don't understand the reports that the multi-player is somehow "more traditional RTS". There's still no base building - certain heroes can build support structures on the map (turrets, warp-gates, etc), but there is no base construction. Honestly - the thing plays a lot more like a BF1942 game where you control all the units from the sky. You have to maintain control of the "flags" for longer than your opponent.
So far - fun =)

I'm sure it'll keep getting flamed for trying something new. And yet, if it stuck to the typical RTS formula, it would get flamed for not being innovative.
Sometimes people just want to hear their own voice... whining.

Then you must have the skipped large chunks where they talk about who they are playing on ther other side? They were 3 human opponents.

I watched up to the point where the eldar started using wraith guards to counter the cans. I loved DoW 1 and bought it for half a dozen of my friends as holiday presents. DoW 2 looks good, but that video had too much of a "tutorial" feel to it. Going back to re-cap shit instead of keeping pressure on is not the orky way.
