Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk) has this tasty (?) scoop (http://www.empireonline.co.uk/news/story.asp?NID=17593) about talk of a sequel to Land of the Dead from the zombie king (heh!) himself, George A. Romero. If the movie is greenlighted it would be the fifth "Dead" movie for Romero.
“Now that Land of the Dead did so well in European markets and Japan, and the DVD is flying off shelves, there’s talk of a sequel,” he confirmed.
If it happens, a new Dead movie will follow the surviving characters from Land on their journey north, and as such will mark the first time Romero has made a direct sequel to one of his zombie flicks. And this time, there won’t be a lengthy gap between films.
While LotD wasn't one of his best flicks, I'd pay to go see a sequel. I am a zombie fiend, so shoot me. Err, preferably in the head - I don't wanna come back.

Just ditch the goddamn anti-zombie RV and all should be dandy.

Whoopty-shit... This guy hasn't done anything decent since Day of the Dead. It's time for retirment, Romero.

Wow. I didn't mind LotD, but I had hoped for more than a direct sequel. At least John Leguizamo is dead. The RV, however, lives on.
Am I the only one that really enjoyed LOTD? I mean it was nothing compared to the last 3 (Dawn being my favorite). I thought it was a good action/zombie movie but was just lacking the "campy" feel I guess. But overall it was a fun and entertaining movie, enought to warrant another sequel.

Yeah, I found it lacked a lot of the quirky humour in Dawn and Day. It was a decent enough film, but just not up to par.
I hope if they do an actual sequel, he injects a little more humanity and character into the protagonists, the whole bunch of them were upstaged by a big black guy going "WWwwUUUUuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaggghhhhhhh!" for the entire film.

LotD was ok, but I wasn't that impressed. I was blown away by last year's Dawn of the Dead remake though and had hoped for something that would be up to that level of awesomeness. LotD just oozed potential but didn't deliver. Ah well.

Sure it was the fourth best of his films so far. But it wasn't "bad." My question, was Road to Fiddler's Green any good?
Oh, and Shaun of the Dead is on HBO-Comedy now.
I hated the DOTD remake, because it was a decent zombie movie (although burdened by too much MTV in both soundtrack and camera work) that was pointlessly made as a remake of the zombie movie.
Although I can see it's flaws, I still loved Land Of The Dead, and this is great news to me.

Blown away? Have you seen the original??
The remake has a decent intro but besides that it pales in comparison to the original.
Shawn of the Dead on the other hand was a fantastic zombie movie.

The last movie had the worst ending I may have ever seen. It is bad when people boo at the end of your movie.

The remake in my opinion was everything a remake should be... really nothing like the original. It, in my opinion, was a good action/zombie movie, that was actually better than LOTD, as it did have some of the "campy" feel that I love in my zombie movies.

Then what the hell is the point of a remake if it is something like the original other than the god damn name?!
I guess to sell, with a well known name its probably going to do better. Anyway that was just my opinion of remakes (cause I usually hate them).

The Million Dollar Man knows why:
money money money money money
Some directors might genuinely want to add their own spin to an old classic, but I'd say most of the time its just to cash in by throwing out a remake of something people are even vaguely familiar with.

Gee, that isn't cynical at all. I don't spose it was because the filmmaker liked the original? No, best to get all morally outraged. This is EA after all.

Well, not all remakes are bad. I think it's just recent stuff like "The Longest Yard" and "The Bad News Bears" that have made me a tad cynical. I loved the originals. The remakes? Not so much.
Also, I might have just wanted to work in a Ted DiBiase reference somehow and found a good opportunity. :D

For the amazon.com price of 12.99 - it is a must play. It has it's issues but is a neat zombie-killin' time.

Whatever happened to the Zombie game that had Tom Savini in it? Did it get cancelled?

I liked Dawn of the Dead remake and the original. I think I am a strong enough person to be able to accept these two films and not calling screaming bloody jihad if I happen to prefer one over the over.
I also like 28 Days Later and Land of the Dead. The original Night of the Living Dead, but not so much the remake.

I loved the remake of night of the living dead for whatever reason, but truthfully i would have just settled for the ending where they have the zombie fights and all that crap, on the other hand, shaun of the dead is about the best zombie related material i have ever seen (outside of the zombie army in invader zim). I really loved the ending of Dawn of The Dead too, the original of course, never watched the remake, where the zombie's are all wondering around the mall and that damn happy music is playing the whole time.

I've liked most of the notable zombie films recently. I'll agree that LotD wasn't the best work of Romero, but it still had a decent concept. My biggest complaint was that it needed more gore.
The Dawn of the Dead remake was very good. As good as the original? Nah. It's hard to beat an original idea. (Although the pacing of 70s movies can be a stunner at times). But I still felt it was well put together and a good take on a timeless (well not totally timeless) classic.
I'd rather see a sequel to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead. That rocked and sequel to that following the events into the next day (not necessarily to do with the same characters) would be so cool. I'd like to see more mass scale events from the outbreak.

I have the same question. We have this at work, but no one seems to know if it is any good. I wonder.

I never said that the remake of Dawn was better than the original. I just really liked it and after having watched it relatively recently I had hoped that Land of the Dead would have followed a little more in its shoes. I didn't mind Land. I just didn't think it was as good as I had thought it would be.
And yes, Shaun of the Dead is indeed one of the best zombie movies that isn't done by Romero :)
The original used to be my fav horror movie of all time but it's just a little too passe.
I consider the dawn of the dead remake to be the start of a new NOTD series. I seriously hope they don't stop at that one. The new series has so much potential.

There was a news bit on sci-fi a few weeks ago that they were moving ahead with a remake of Day of the Dead. =)
As far as another Romero "Dead" movie, sign me up, because I'm still loyal to the franchise; but please, not a direct sequel to "Land". None of the characters did anything for me, the gore was disappointing (the amount was probably just about right, but it was all in the dark, so you couldn't enjoy it. After "Day" did so great with well-lit gore scenes, having every single dismemberment and gut-rip happen in consuming darkness is lame), and I just didn't get that all-important sense of hopelessness. Probably due to the fact that within the walls, society may have decayed, but was still functioning well enough, and within the Ivory Tower itself, it was like nothing ever happened. I understand what he was trying to get across there, but it just took away the gut-punch of a world overrun with the living dead.

Because shot-for-shot remakes suck worse?
If the studios are only going to greenlight projects based on known properties, we should at least get a little bit of new movie out of it.

I can't say I enjoyed Land of the Dead much, the premise, the ridiculous truck, and the actors (aside from maybe John Leguizamo and that likeable scarred doofus sidekick)... were all weak in my opinion.
Sean of the Dead started out very good, but lost it in the last 45 minutes or so. I'm surprised people are so taken with that movie.
And I also really enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead remake. Though I'm not some zombie movie tradionalist, I didn't see the original until after seeing the remake. And I happen to like fast zombies.
God, don't get me started on those fucking fast zombies, they're endemic of how ADD Hollywood is. (28 Days Later doesn't count)
There are two things Romero does that nobody else can even touch, the first is that every one of his Zombies is a character as much as the survivors are, and that's part of the reason DOTD 2004 wasn't actually creepy at all.
The second is that his characters are engaging, you generally are either hoping they'll make it, or can't wait for them to bite it, in DOTD 2004 I couldn't care what happened to pretty much any of the human cast, with the possible exception of Ving Rhames, Jake Weber and that sardonic guy who looked like Morrissey. (heh, Morissey versus the zombies, armed with only his fucking terrible lyrics and incredible pomposity, that's a movie I want greenlit)

HILARIOUS. I'd go see it on opening day. I love it that someone else noticed the resemblance, everyone I told had no clue what I was talking about.

I just ordered Fiddler's Green from Amazon (thanks for the link, Mondopest!)... now, while I wait, I could have sworn somebody in another thread here mentioned a mod for it that basically put more zombies into the game... ring any bells, anybody? I've googled for it, and I'm finding cool zombie mods for other games, but not this one... Much appreciation to whoever can straighten me out here...
