Namco has released 8 new screens for the lovely looking Warhammer: Mark of Chaos (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/media/screens/1411/0/).

So, I'm gathering that this is completely unrelated to Dawn of War.

Oh well, I'll ask my question anyway. I just bought Dawn of War for my Dad for Christmas, even though I haven't played it. Did I make a good decision? He still plays StarCraft.

This is Warhammer, not Warhammer 40k. They are two different game universes, the former being a fantasy setting, the latter being sci/fi.

This is based on their fantasy universe. Think mix of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings.

Yeah, I knew that much. I just figured that the different games might be similar. (Like, that they have a similar ruleset, despite their different universes.) I'll admit that I don't know that much about it.

Anyway, I just bought 40k over the weekend and then was surprised to see SOMETHING Warhammer in the news. Any opinions on whether my dad will enjoy the game?

I really liked Dawn of War, but it is quite different from Starcraft. There is no mining resources. You gain resources by occupying territory on the map. The units are also squad based which I liked a lot.

The only problem I had with it was the campaign. It was very short. I recall only like 10 or so missions. I hope you bought the Winter Assault expansion.

Well, if my Dad really likes it, he can get himself Winter Assault. He makes more than I do! :)

This one looks sweet, and it's suppose to play like the Total war series.

Ah, sorry man, thought you weren't familiar with the Warhammer settings. And yeah, if he likes RTS, your dad will love DoW.

This will be the best Warhammer game since SotHR. Screw the 40K crap, this is the real deal.

Warhammer Fantasy.

I loved GMing paper campaigns back in 1996 with my friends.

Something tells me that Dawn Of War will be far better then this game, considering the developers only project before this was Armies Of Exigo.

One thing that should be noted, this is being developed by Namco, while the Dawn of War series was developed by Relic.

Most of Relic's RTS products are gold (with the exception of Impossible Creatures, I don't know what happened there). I really like the look of Mark of Chaos, but it's something I'm going to have to play before buying.

A side note, if you are an RTS fan, play W40k: Dawn of War! This game is amazing, and aside from the awards it's won, it didn't get a whole lot of recognition (much being taken away by games like LotR: BFME, Empire Earth 2, Age of Empires 3, which i find below the amazing DoW). Take my word for it, the game is amazing.

So here's my hoping that Mark of Chaos is good, because it sure looks good.

The thing in that screenshot looks like a Khorne Dog

*snort*

Anyway, until they have a proper translation of the tabletop game (not on the N-Gage) I don't much care.

I'm currently in a Warhammer pen-and-paper group. The universe it's based around is so detailed and interesting; I'm really excited to see if this game ends up not sucking. :D
