Following in a long line of derivative and repetitive titles, Koei is poised to release the next iteration of the Gundam branch, of their Dynasty Warriors branded games. Come March 27th to the Xbox360 and PS3, you'll be able to do the same thing you've been able to do in all the Dynasty Warrior games again!
DYNASTY WARRIORS: GUNDAM 2 returns with robots the size of mountains and battles to make your eyes water.
Hertfordshire, UK- January 14, 2009 - KOEI today announced that the European release of DYNASTY WARRIORS®: GUNDAM®2 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system will be on March 27, 2009.
With the Gundam phenomenon once again taking the gaming and anime worlds by storm in Japan this is the chance for European gamers to discover what all the fuss is about. A chance to take control of robots the size of tower blocks. A chance to unleash enough firepower to level entire cities. A chance to wade into battle against hundreds of armed to the teeth Mobile Suits. A chance to indulge in some of the most elaborate combos and incredible attack animations yet to feature in a Warriors game. And a chance to light up their TV screens with a spectacular feast of pyrotechnic mayhem as armies of giant robots clash in massed battles on a stupendous scale.
Yes, I've never understood the draw of the Dynasty Warrior games, so I apologize if this offends the DW faithful.

For me, the draw of Dynasty Warriors is the same as the draw for games such as Streets of Rage or Double Dragon, its mindless beet the crap out of a lot of people action. It makes for good stress release.
That being said, I treat the series like I do sports games, I only buy one every two or three years, since that's all that's really needed.

The Dynasty Warriors games gave you that first glimpse of the "300" movie scenario. You fight hundreds of guys and also confront the occasional bosses mixed in. The other nice thing about the games was the fact that you could play them co-op.

My friend John is a big fan of DW5. When he found out that DW6 was just more of the same with better graphics, he was quite pleased.

I've never played any DW. What is it like?

It is a souped up video game history lesson of the 3 Kingdoms period of China.
You basically get to choose your favorite legendary Chinese warrior from the three said armies (it has an impressive roster, highly embellished but all based on actual people in history) and beat the snot out of hundreds of the other armies cronies. After wading through your heaps of dead weaklings' bodies for for a bit, they throw some of the other legendary warriors at you to make it somewhat difficult.
I admit I only followed the series up to 4 (after starting with 2) before I realized I pretty much had seen everything the series had to offer. I might buy into the series again if they have reached the point where each main character is human controlled via XBOX Live. That would be pretty fun and challenging. I would recommend checking at least one of the games out, as it is pretty fun.
The Gundam version is basically the same but you get to pick from the Gundam character roster and basically dismantle hundreds of Zakus.

It should be noted that it will launch here in the States on March 24th.

I'm not a DW fan, but your news post does bother me. I thought we were keeping the editorial comments in the italics at the end of the post? This isn't exactly the Washington Post, but we should have SOME standards.
Also, if the game is bad enough that it warrants this kind of treatment, why bother posting about it at all?

Not only that, but there are usually objectives to complete. Fight your way to objective A, beat up some bosses, gain experience...Think of it like Diablo without the random drops. It can be sort of confusing at first, but it actually isn't so bad. I rented one a couple of years ago (DW4?) and actually had a good time with it. There are usually different characters who all have their own storyline, so lots of replay value.

Did you say Diablo? I love Diablo so it might be interesting.
Is it like the game Nighty Nine Nights? I downloaded the demo and it looked like a repetitive POS.

Too bad these games always stink one way or another. I used to be a pretty big fan of anything Gundam, and thought the first DW: Gundam game looked cool until it came out and got crap reviews.
This one looks to be heading down the same path. Videos and trailers look awesome, but the final product will most likely be lacking.

DW games always get crap reviews, and bad reviews are never a deterrent to the people who like the series. The franchise has always been a love it/hate it thing, and those of us that enjoy the games know what we're getting.

I disliked the regular DW series due to the limited functionality options that are offered for co-op play, but I enjoyed DW:G quite a bit. Can't treat a judgement on a game based on reviews as a valid judgement.
If this iteration offers more of the same along with an expanded roster and deeper plots then I am there again.
