According to this article (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61904) over at Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net), Nokia is finally calling time on its less-than-stellar foray into the handheld market.

Nokia's VP of corporate strategy, Antii Vasara, has confirmed that there are no plans to develop future versions of the N-Gage as the company turns its focus towards other mobile entertainment media.

Speaking to Vnunet, Vasara admitted that the N-Gage did not achieve projected targets, stating: "N-Gage is still being sold but it was not a success in the sense of developing a new category.

"We learnt that people want to play games on all devices. As such we are integrating the gaming software into Series 60 phones."
Nothing short of a cataclysmic failure of marketing and design. Still, at least the technology will be implemented in future Nokia phones.

Well, at least, they learned their lesson.

Only thing I have against nokia and the n-gage is the Rifts game. Oh god! Why the fuck did Palladium develop a game exclusively for the n-gage!? How fucking stupid can they be!

Shit. I might need to make a thread to fully quench my anger.

I need to introduce you to one of my friends who would have a thing or two to tell you about Palladium...

As for the N-gage: I know two people who owned one, and they were both happy using it as a CELL PHONE that COULD game. Which is what it should of been marketed as.

Wasn't this posted yesterday? Maybe its just me...

As for cell-phone/gaming devices, that whole concept won't succeed till getting a phone 'plan' and service becomes as simple as putting in a game cartridge.

I just got a new, free N-Gage from the EB in San Francisco. Not a bad phone at all really.

I personally have no interest in cellphones until the plans become realistic in price.

What ever happened to Romero's N-Gage focused company?

Oh yea, that game comes out in three years and fails to live up to the massive cloud of hype that surrounds it. Or did that already happen...

I have an Ngage, and I just use it as a phone, or an NES emulator. Good toy for taking a crap.

About time, this thing was a joke. We all knew it would end like this and now it has.
Now if the DS just had voice over internet, we would defenitely would not miss a thing from the end of the N*gage.

I like my QD as a phone that just happens to play games. Since they are incorporating the tech into regular phones, I hope this means I'll still be able to get some games for mine.

HA!

Making the N-Gage was not a bad idea. The problem was that Nokia actually tried to sell the system/phone. To me, the N-Gage always looked like the equivalent of a concept car and it should have been treated as such. Nokia should have looked at the final product and said, "This is a great concept of how extensively we can incorporate game playing into a cell phone." Then selections of that technology are used in future phones.

At the very least they would have avoided the embarrasing marketing failure of what was really just a concept idea.

Cool thing about the DS, it DOES have a headseat jack next to the earphones. Likely to be used over the internet, they showed a demo of the thing at E3, didnt they?
