The dutch design company Buro Vormkrijgers (http://burovormkrijgers.nl/) has designed a clock which uses the popular videogame Pong to show the time. A random game of Pong is played, and when it's time to change minutes or hours, one of the two sides will score, thus changing the score and the time.
This has got to be one of the most inventive ways of using Pong ever!

See more pics of the clock at MoCoLoco (http://mocoloco.com/archives/001766.php), after that watch it in action at Gamershell (http://gamershell.com/news/26523.html)!

The Geek in me wants one! This is almost as good as the binary clock (http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/binary/59e0/) or the lightsaber (http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/warfare/69de/) at Think Geek (http://www.thinkgeek.com)

What a waste of electricity. Powering up a whole LCD, 24/7/365 just for a "CLOCK"
This isn't geekware. This is garbage at it's best.
Looks a little large doesn't it?
I'd get one if it didn't take up so much wallspace.

Video is not very useful. I'd want to see how they handle rolling the hour over, since both numbers need to change at the same time. You can't have both players score simultaneously, and it seems awkward to quickly have them both score.

I would imagine the hour side scores, and the minute side resets to zero. I mean, it's not like the hour side is going to score that much.. you gotta give the guy a break.

For the hour change, my guess is that the game "re-sets" to a new game where the score happens to be the hour with 0 minutes. Then the right paddle proceeds to rack up the points again. Actually, if that's how it works, that would get kinda tedious...it would pretty much always be the right paddle scoring.
It's pretty damn cool, I'd get one if I saw it in a store and I was feeling a bit impulsive.

It appears the designer is going to release a "screen saver" of this clock on the 1st of December. This would be a great use for an old laptop... hmmm. Time to check eBay.

I'd get the screen saver. The clock.. maybe. If it were cheap.

I wouldn't mind some of these "game clocks" in old school games. Not necessarily clocks, but just moving painting. It would be cool if you had like Super Mario Bros or Legend Of Zelda being played.

LCDs use very little electricity. MUCH less than a monitor or TV.

What a terrible waste of an LCD screen.

Definitely a screensaver- anything else is just a waste.
For a modern abuse of say a Xbox, how about a soccer version. [scripted AI to score one per minute with a lot of pass-offs during that time]
