View Full Version : Call of Duty Community in Uproar

Somewhere on the internet, somebody is advocating for some just cause...

With that said, Call of Duty community is getting set for what seems to be a 24hr community-wide mass server shutdown (http://www.ggmania.com/?smsid=20288) to protest... Unspecified complaints! From what vague titbits I've been able to gather, Infinity Ward has been slacking off in its community relations duties, cheat-prevention, and "rollback" game design in general.

I'd love for someone somewhere who's in the thick of things to enlighten us. The problems at the center of this rally seem to be long-running.

This brings up an interesting fact: Who is it that typically supports these PC games with servers post-launch? It's *DRUMROLL* the community, fans who run servers out of their own pockets, people who do it for the love of the game.

hmmm...

It has annoyed me when playing CoD2 Multiplayer and I get killed by someone and watch the replay from their perspective to find that they didnt even aim at me!!! (eg they just aimed to my side or near me and get a head shot!!)

Make more entertainers. That ought to do it.

This thread (http://www.iwnation.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=15724) is a list of complaints. Looks like they are making all the mistakes people grumbled about with COD1 all over again, and the community isn't so forgiving this time around.

They had Call of Duty's multiplayer pretty close to perfect with the last patches, I don't know why they'd change that.

I prefer to tax the city into the ground until there's only 1 population. Serves them right for rioting...and I'll sell the damn granary.

The "hitboxes" I guess, or just however the MP "bullet + player = death" is set up is totally screwy just like in the original still...

No, no, no. Just build your own Telepathic Matrix. Nerve stapling is too harsh, other factions might get P.O. at you.

Er, back on subject....I got nothing.

During development, IW's head guys had been quoted as saying things like "No one play's multiplayer" and "All they play is deathmatch anyway." Statisticly speaking they're right - everyone who buys it will play the SP campaign, fewer will play MP, and the majority of servers are DM or TDM. All I can say is thank God Gray Matter knew better when they designed around and fixed MP in United Offensive. I can't believe they took out grenade cooking and sprint in COD2. It's like they completely ignored everything that GM did, and all the positive feedback from the community and said "Rubbish, we know better what people like."

Nothing funnier than some mouthbreather calling someone a geek, by posting the insult on an internet gaming news site.I think the insult lay more in "uproar" than in "geek." I play multiplayer games all the time, but I too think it's hilarious when people get pissed that the Man is messing with their game.

I'm with Bubby. Geeks seem to have some exaggerated sense of entitlement because they play someone's games. I see all the Internet petitions the dumbasses think are so important, and just chuckle. It dovetails with the whole "My console is better than yours" geeks that infest most gaming websites. Same odd psychology as supporting "My" football team.

BF2's, got some insane cheat problems right now. To the point where a compromised server can wipe your key bindings remotely. Either they'll fix it, or I'll find another game. This whole protest mentality over something as petty as a game is sadly funny.

Someone could get a doctorate by studying what strangeness in some people makes them loyal to an inanimate object (console) or company that cares nothing for them. It's really wide spread, the console geeks are no different than the "Chevy versus Ford" idiots.

Rule #1: If you are going to try to flame someone on the internet remember to use proper grammar.

Missing a comma there...

Nope. It's proper the way it is which points out my comment to him and his fragmented sentence with the comma.

This is 5th grade level grammar right? Get with the program. ;)

For multiplayer. Personally, Call of Duty 2 has to be one of the best Single Player games that I have played in a long time. I really love the atmosphere and the environment that they put into the game. greawt stuff.

I'd really like to know the issues here. I've been playing it (dominating in it) and rather enjoying it. I think the speed of the game is perfect. At first it was kind of confusing as to why sprinting, cooking grenades were taken out, but most servers now have that enabled through mods.

I must agree with Uberjumper, I've recently been putting some time into BF2 and must say that with teamwork and teamspeak it is by far the most enjoyable m/p game I've ever played.

COD2 single player does rock it like no tomorrow as well.

Yeah....no one will notice, I've only played the MP for a couple hours, and jump in here or there, but some of the servers have mods to remove health regen, and add nade cook, but seriously every game has most of these issuses at launch (balance issues, and other standard things).

That's the funny bit. The game has so many problems, but it's still so out-fucking-standing when it's working that I could really care less about the issues.

As for the $30 patch, I'm just going around picking up the new weapons on the server when people drop them. I kinda like how you can use the new kit and equipment on the old servers if you have the "patch". I had a flashbang used on me the other day, it was pretty cool!

Children, children... let's simmer down. We're all geeks. The only difference here is that some of "us" don't like to admit to it.

Nothing I hate worse than a self-hating geek.

I'm an avid player of CoD and I and my clan support the strike currently in effect.
Will it accomplish anything? I'm not sure, but when you see over 8,000 servers shutdown it shows a strong community.
Many forums say we're fools(polite words) others say we waste our time and grow up. I'm 56 yrs old...I am grown up!
Cheating in a game is as low as low can get. If it's "only a game" why are you cheating?
Thanks for listening.
