Anyone here see Gran Torino? Is it worth the time and money or is it all hype?

IMHO, it is all hype. Eastwood plays Archie Bunker in a very trite, "I hated the naggers next door until I got to know them and now I love them." story.

Much adoe about Nothing.

I heard on the radio that Gran Torino will be the last movie Eastwood acts in. That by itself may warrant a viewing, even if its when it hits DVD.

Anyone here see Gran Torino? Is it worth the time and money or is it all hype?My parents went to see it and my father loved it. He spent about ten minutes on the phone raving about it to me yesterday. My father is the type of guy that usually complains about films. If he had nothing bad to say about it there's a good chance you'll like it.

Gran Torino is awesome. I hope Eastwood keeps making movies till the day he dies. One of the few movie makers left that actually underestands what film is all about.

I found myself laughing through it numerous times. It is a good movie in my mind. Lot's of racism in there, hell I've never even heard some of the things he says in that movie towards other people.

Worth watching.

Next up for me is The Wrestler

Walt is my role model. I want to be just like him when I'm his age.

I thought Gran Torino was excellent, but not Clint's best (acting or directing); but I recommend it anyway because it's Clint Eastwood

It seems that the critics are in agreement about Slumdog, but I can't find anyone else who's seen it. I really loved it, with special attention to the music. It has a Memento thing going on, and an indie vibe without alienating the viewer.

I saw Gran on Friday in a packed theater and I absolutely loved it. It was a great representation of the midwest and gave a good view of Hmong life. Eastwood was great and VERY entertaining.

Gran Torino was just plain good. I wasn't blown away, but it was unique enough to stand out amidst all the "edgy" takes on racism anymore. I really don't know how this movie could offend anybody. Anybody but whites, that is, as his white spoiled fuckup family is worthless in every way. So maybe this movie offends whites. I don't know. The movie very clearly establishes that Clint's character suffers from his racist thoughts, and he somewhat overcomes them by the end. It doesn't promote racism at all.

Walt reminds me of my grandfather, who was also a mean old racist bastard. The difference is my grandfather was a mean old racist bastard til the day he died. I enjoyed the movie, and so did my father. I imagine it will be a hell of a hit with the VFW.

7 Pounds was a depressing film that was trying to be something great. I wanted my 1.5 hours back...also Will Smith = Tom Cruise 2.0 which I will not support.

I sat down to watch Gran Torino over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It wasn't a 'blow you away' awesome flick but rather a low key, simple film that was very well done. Aside from Clint Eastwood (and a few others), all the actors were non-actors which made for some wooden acting but this didn't detract from the overall film so much.

One line I really enjoyed from the movie was Walt taking Tao to the tool store to buy him a tool belt and saying: "Whaddya think you're gonna carry your tools in a lice bag?". Had my half asian ass lol-ing.

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. I think I'll just wait for the DVD release then.

But, couldn't disagree with you more, on Will Smith. I think he's a teriffic actor and one of my favorites.

I may have come across a little too strong...I'd say it's a semi-worthy rental to watch with the wife/gf.

Sure, Will Smith is a great actor but he is an avid Scientologist which is what I have a problem with.

I'm sure it's been said already, but Gran Turino was amazing, Clint Eastwood still rules! Guy has more grit than your average sunday brunch in south carolina, or any deep southern state. (terrible anology, you know what I'm talking about, GRITS!)

I might have to check this out, although my current favorite all time movie dealing with racism is "American History X". Edward Norton did an awesome job in that moviie, sealed my opinion of him as a good actor.
