Who's Kelly Clarkson? And Madonna's still making music? What the hell is going on with those kids these days?! And get off my lawn!
Oh, and as an aside, cool, cool. A pal told me they had a whole show where they followed an all-women clan around. Was that PMS too? (I don't watch much TV.)

Prehaps it's just what happens in front of a camera. I can't imagine what being an editor for MTV must be like.

But yeah, that was a good clip.

And here I thought that the PMS stood for "Psycho Men Slayers"
Or is that not PG-13ish enough for Mtv?

Now, hopefully some of the 14 year old girls will realize it's ok to play games, as the PMS clan does it, and gets on Mtv.
I think its cool.

No, I kinda got it too. Frankly publicizing something like this, is probrably only going to turn women off gaming. How many girls that might be interested in this shit will think to themselves "Christ, so few girls play games that the ones that do get bloody TV time???? I dont want to be a freak" and skip the whole thing completely.
Then again, I dont give two shits and a squirt of piss if women do or dont game, personally. If they do, great, if they dont, oh well. Just dont change good games to try to make them more appealing. That is the part the gets to me. If the world of affirmitive action comes to gaming, it will be a very very sad day indeed. The breasts in DOA are fine as they are... :D

Halo 3 better have Mrs. Chief as a multiplayer character for these chicks, it's only right ;). That was a cool TV spot and on MTV (as lame as it is), it prolly got tons of exposure and attracted more girls into thinking gaming can be cool. Rather than just a spot on TechTV or whatever the hell that channel is called now where only the gaming community would see it. Nice job PMS!

The question is more like "Would they be getting the exposure at all if they weren't some damn fine women in that crowd"? I don't think it's a stereotype issue like the media tries to make it out to be honestly... I mean face it guys, this isn't football or golf.
I know most men over the age of 12 don't give a shit if the other player is female or not, the female is a plus but only in the same way that a female on a harley is a plus.. It's not your usual thing.
Meh, half of me is glad for any exposure the world of gaming gets.. The other half is worried that those ass-clowns at MTV and their corporate brethren will try to "sponsor" this "sport" and bury it in lameness.
Until then though, we're all tools of genetics.... I sat and watched the whole video clip too, just because it had some hot women in it. ;)
Edit: Just wouldn't be a real post without an edit or two.

every time i see something on MTV i feel like I"m going to have a seizure. I guess they feel that if they keep the camera steady for 1/2 a second, we'll all get bored and change the channel.

Wow, some good and bad things here...as it always seems to be. I definitely understand all sides as well.
First off, we are not just hot girls...we have hundreds of members of ALL ages (our youngest is 11, our oldest is 58) and backgrounds (students/homemakers/managers/web design/strippers/etc. You name it, we probably have it. What we are is a diverse group brought together for a love of gaming. We have been here for over three years, and have placed in tournaments across the country. Personally, I am happy mainstream is giving the gaming world attention, because it is going to mean more gamers sponsored and able to make gaming a viable career choice for those who have enough passion for it...regardless of gender. As for women being highlighted, it goes back to what I said in my interview earlier this month…getting women earlier into gaming will potentially get them interested in tech fields, of which we are sorely lacking right now across the industry. Diversity is a good thing. This is my opinion....I realize not everyone thinks that way, and everyone has a right to their opinion :D
P.S.We definatly were excited about the show...I met some really good people from this site onXbox, and I wanted to share the excitment. Sorry if that offended anyone.

As I said before, most of us don't care about the female aspect of it as long as you can play a decent game of whatever. Don't sell out to the corporate machine by turning yourselves into a marketing ploy and I'll keep cheering for you guys.... After all, you look a damn bit better than most of the teams running around.
Grats on the exposure, keep it up.

Nothing wrong with a little flattery.
As for getting women into the tech field: You're beating around the bush a little. I'm no expert in the fem psyche or anything, but I'd wager that most people play games for the playing part, not the making part; guys, gals, there's no difference.
Of course I see where you're coming from. It kinda does suck that you have to explain yourself like that, but that's the way it is isn't it?

Kinda a double standard wouldnt you say fitbabits? I mean, the kind of shit said around here on a daily basis can be pretty offensive, its part of the sites charm. Yet frankly, Ive seen homophobic, borderline racists, country bashing, you name it. Why should this be any different really? I never saw a single really bad comment in this thread to be honest, maybe a few immature ones ( like the playing with my joystick comment ), but by the gold standard of this site and the internet in general, thats pretty bloody tame.
That said, I like to see AthenaTwinPMS posting to the site and am happy for the exposure she got on MTV. ( although my opinion of MTV is a much different matter ). A difference of perspective is always welcomed and can lead to many great conversations. However, changing the tone and culture of an existing community is exactly what I dont like! Much the same as my earlier comment in which I dont much want to see negative changes to games to broaden their appeal to women. ( I would guess the Athena probrably agree's with that perspective as she obviously enjoys games as they are now).
Finally, any negative comments I have made here Athena, are not directed at you, they are aimed at the media. I appreciate what you have done forming a clan this size and of such diverse composure. That said, I rather despise the fact that MTV felt the need to focus on your more attractive members. Had they shown the 11 year olds or 50 year olds that are also parts of your group, I would have had a hell of alot more respect for TRL. It would have also probrably had a more positive impact on the women in the audience, atleast IMHO. Had MTV presented your clan as diversely as it actually is, there would be no requirement to explain to other people that your not just a group of hot gamers. Instead MTV pandered to the lowest common denominator and went the trusty "Sex sells" approach. Then again, not like I expected much from MTV.

No, I don't think so at all. I've likewise seen racist, homophobic and nationalistic posts on here. And to the best of knowledge, each one of these has been challenged by someone. Sexism, racism, nationalism, etc. are all equally offensive, so I don't see how you could view my post as a double standard. Or am I missing the point?

I suppose its a factor of two things. One, I kinda disagree with the being challenged part. For the most part, comments go more or less unremarked to, unless the comment was exceptional. For example, if someone called my gay, it would basically go unheralded, unless I chose to make an issue of it. Now, if someone called me a fucking faggot, then yeah, I imagine a few people *might* make a comment on it, even then, Im not so sure.
In this case, I dont think people were too out of line. There were a few immature comments but frankly, your not going to get away from that. Otherwise, I would say that most of the comments here were pretty much valid and mostly directed against MTV, not PMS.
Finally, being an all female clan and naming yourself PMS I would say that your are pretty much inviting certain comments. The very nature of the clan and its presentation does bring gender into the conversation. Much as if I called myself GayGamer and was the head of an all gay clan, I should imagine discussions about gamer sexuality are to be expected.
Point blank, I dont see any reason for Athena to be issuing an apology like you said earlier. But, to be honest, I dont see any need for anyone else that posted to this thread to feel apologetic either.

Good points, well made. However, you seem to be assuming that I was apologizing on behalf of EvAv to AthenaTwin, which was not the case. I was merely stating that I was dismayed that she felt the need to apologize.
For what it's worth, I think the mix of people that post here at EvAv is wonderful. :)

Of course I see all your points; in fact, I am very use to them. My response was a justification of my perspective, and all of use view things differently. I respect all options, as long as the verbiage is tasteful (which is usually is on E.A.). That is also part of what makes diversity, which I applaud! I just want everyone to understand we have always been pure to gaming. Yes, we have to market to get our girls compeating (i.e. sponsors), but that doesn't mean we are not serious gamers as well. The time has come for gameing to be recognized as a viable sport, and we will help aid that in anyway neccessary. Recognition is the first step! :)
