In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry is mysteriously selected as the fourth competitor in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament. Each contestant in this international competition must confront a fire-breathing dragon, rescue friends from the icy depths of the Black Lake, and navigate the twisting mysteries of a vast, dangerous maze.

Replacing the German demo from earlier this month, EA UK has now released an English version allowing you check out a cutscene and try one level from the full game.

You can grab the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire demo (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=30125) (140mb) over at WorthPlaying.

What a horrible game. It's a console transfer this time, so it's designed for controllers. On the PC, you CANNOT use a controller if you're player one. You HAVE to use the keyboard, which has an unplayable control scheme.

Fuck you, EA.

Well at least the film was fab.

Hello @ Spoiler, thank you very much.

Hello @ Spoiler, thank you very much.

Oh cmon. When its a video game adapation of a movie which is an adaption of a book, I dont think spoilers really count. Especially when the book is many years old.

Lots of people don't read the book and haven't seen the movie yet (I'm not one of those people, but it still struck me as an odd thing). It's simply not needed in the headline.

Its the entire premise of the game though. What else could be said about the game's premise except for that little excerpt?

It's not that bad as spoilers go, though.
I've seen worse on the back of books, and much worse in movie trailers.

I'm not saying it's the worst, but it simply doesn't need to be there. I don't understand why people would disagree with this. Just because you've seen/know the story, doesn't mean other people do and want it ruined just reading about the game demo. I know if I didn't know what the story was, it'd piss me off.

Edit:

Oh yeah, and for the record the back of the book says nothing even close to that:

"The summer holidays are dragging on and Harry Potter can't wait for the start of the school year. It is his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, and there are spells to be learnt, potions to be brewed and Divination lessons (sigh) to be attended. Harry is expecting these: however, other quite unexpected events are already on the march..."

I said "on the back of books", not the book.

While we're on the subject of GOF advertising, though, the movie trailer shows the maze, Harry escaping the dragon, the furore at the World Cup, and the Goblet, and that's from memory.

This seriously doesn't give much away at all.
That said, what would you have written in place of the spoiler?

Film was okay, terribly edited though, very badly butchered in post-production it felt like. Ah well, the books are the important thing, the films are just fun filler.

The trailer shows shots, it doesn't explain the scenes, nor does the average viewer memorize a trailer. The only part that even stands out was there was a dragon. It sounds like you, just like me read the books and knew what to look for as well.

I wouldn't have written anything, except to say that the new Harry Potter game demo is out, "inviting players to take the role of Harry through this newest adventure". It's marketing bullshit, you don't need to give details. You can talk about the gameplay elements rather than the levels themselves. It's just crass, IMHO, and I certainly don't understand your defense of it. I'm not trying to make it out to be a huge deal, just something that should be changed (as if it wasn't thought all the way out when it was posted). I'd hope someone would point something like that out to me if I posted something like this.

As someone who has not read the books, but has seen the trailer many times, I did not realize all that stuff was in the movie.

I wasn't intending to defend it as such - just to suggest that it didn't really need criticism.

You may be right, though, I'm coming to it from the angle of a book fanboy, so I see it differently, and I'd taken your comments as unconstructive and a little nasty.

Re-reading it, that's not how it was meant, and the criticism is fair, so I'll just get back in my little box.

Hello @ Spoiler, thank you very much.

If you think those are spoilers for GOF, well, you'll be in for a surprise.

I mean, really, that's just a description of the three Tri-Wizard Tournament competitions. Would you get all pissy if someone "spoiled" the fact that there was magic in the story as well, too?

Good God!

Not only did you spoil the fact that there was killing in the series, but there are also characters named "Snape" and "Dumbledore"!

Oh, the humanity!

Yeah, next you'll be telling us that Bruce Willis died at the start of that other film..

Anyway, the spoiler thing is a moot point. I thought everyone here ignored the news and concentrated on the attitude?

Besides which, the only reason Evil Avatar ever has an EA topic on their front page is when they can't afford the heating bills and need some quick, warming flaming.

Still, you get these 'spoilers' if your idea of journalism amounts to blindly copying and pasting stuff from other sites and press releases. Tut tut.
