This game really needed a patch, a number of bad crash bugs, some of which seem not to be fixed...

i haven't seen the crashes, but my good friend from these boards has, regularly... have they not all been fixed, then!? i expect more from mr. meier.

EDIT: this game is great, though. i love that the AI is actually challenging. well, apart from when they attack my longbowmen with infantry. grrr!

You would be refering to me then ;)

Yeah, I often get a full lock-up that requires a reboot when playing CIV 4, Hopefully this patch might fix my problem. It is a fantastic game though... Very Addictive :D

Never had a crash, but this (otherwise excellent) game really needed a patch. Lots of weird slowdonws and stuttering movies, not to mention necessary gameplay glitches (like the fact that the difficulty level didn't alter your score...). Good thing they released a patch.

The only real problem I've seen is the loading times (which are still better than bf2) the very occasional broken animation and the wonder videos stuttering all over the place, but this is still a good thing.
I hear some people are getting crashes every half and hour etc, that must be horrible, I can't imagine playing this for less than half an hour.

Nice, here's hoping you actually have time to use late game techs,

Aye, no crashes here, but towards the endgame, it waaas soooo sloooow. I think it just had some mem leak issues as well from what I was reading on the forum. Great news on this patch.

It seems to have fixed every bug but one which randomly reboots my computer. Sometimes it happens after a couple minutes and sometimes I can play for hours with no problem. I've just learned to save often.

That sounds like a heating issue on your computer...

More patching will be needed judging from the response on the CivFanatics forums and some bugs one of my friends from work has run into...

but this is definitely a step in the right direction. Great game. :D

Doubt it, my computer is well cooled and none of my temperature monitors are showing anything above about 38C when I play.
