FINALLY!!!

http://www.kubrickian.com/smashtv.jpg

Xbox Live arcade is going to be huge, ONLINE CO-OP SmashTV for 5 dollars?! The arcades are reborn imo. Once you dig into a X360 for a couple of hours there is no going back, what an outstanding piece of kit from every angle.

Crud, that's acctually a really worthwhile reason to have a 360. :(

The first time I came into contact with this game was actually on the SNES, which recieved an absolutely awesome conversion. SmashTV is pure shooter in every sense of the word, an example of harmonius design. I hear a lot of talk of Radiant Silvergun.. I've played both and this is where it's at imo.

Besides the official Microsoft statement released admitting some units are overheating. lol dumbass.

Also, if you search google for "Project Light Flame", there's zero findings. You can also try variations, like 360 Project Light Flame, Sony Project Light Flame and Sony viral Project Light Flame.

Nice one.

Bleh... the 360 is a solid system. Anyone who says otherwise is a jack-ass, and probably hasn't played one (demo units don't count). That's not to say that it will be the best this generation (I've already learned not to judge so soon), but it's off to a damn fine start.

Oh, and yes I do believe Sony might have people posting trolling topics on several forums. If they don't, then they are a fucking stupid for not doing it.

I think its hillarious that everyone is touting retro gaming as Xbox360's killer aps. I mean seriously, for the most part you can find that experience on the PC for free. Ok, maybe not co-op and maybe not high def but still wtf. Where is the drool over PDZ or Condemned. This is what you camp out in the rain for based on a global launch that creates artificial shortages for North America. And now that's the big success right? HALO2 still defines Xbox and if Geometry Wars supplants that then I have to wonder if these gamers really want great gaming experiences or just be the first on the block to suck on MS's dick.

You know, you cna like pdz AND super smash TV. most people who want the xbox 360 want to play games, of many types, especially online. the live arcade games are a part of that. me and a buddy spent two hours slashing ghosts in gauntlet last night, why? because it's fun.

not because we don't like pdz, cuz we played that too, but we have fun in many ways.

maybe you should find whats fun for you other than making silly ass posts and try that.

SONY = never getting a single yen out of my pocket for any product (not just the PS3).

MS = taking the wait and see approach. Not really jazzed about the 360 ATM.

Nintendo = coming out in the lead for me ATM. I like the concept of the new controller, low cost, looks of the console. The only minus is I have yet to see any games but that will come in time.

I'm not frothing at the mouth like a wild animal to get the new XB360 or any other console, I think many people need to step back, take a breath and relax about gaming for a bit. Go outside...it's quite refreshing. :p

I think its hillarious that everyone is touting retro gaming as Xbox360's killer aps.

Why? Everyone's getting creamed up over being able to play 10 year old games on Revolution. You can't really blame Microsoft for capitalising on such a well received idea.

I'm not a fanboy of any system but I think Microsoft's efforts with Live and Live Marketplace are very smart ideas. Punters think they're getting a service whilst Microsoft just get an extra source of revenue. The easier you make it for someone to spend money, the more likely they are to do so!

And, there's no denying, Smash TV is a fantastic game. I already have it on the Midway Arcade Treasures pack (bought the pack just for Smash TV actually) and love it as much as when I played it in the arcades! I'd definitely pay $5 / £3 for this.

Son of a bitch, that's actually making me want my backordered 360 now. At first I was of the 'meh' school, but I had it paid off so I figured I could probably force myself to enjoy PD0 until Oblivion came out but HOT DAMN. This and Gauntlet over Live! have me sold.

With all due respect, that's an argument that can be levelled at 360 owners playing Live Arcade, PS2 owners playing PS1 games, any player of a retro game collection or anyone getting excited about playing old games on the Revolution (which, oddly, is the only thing about Revolution games we actually know about for a fact).

Clearly, it's not an option that seems to appeal to you and I very much doubt those who take up that style of gaming are going to detract from your enjoyment of whatever kind of game you prefer to play. So I'm unclear as to where you're coming from really..

Sure it must be for people that have lots of money that like to waste into their likings... o well...thats just my opinion, no offend to anyone.

Well, let's be brutally honest, a gaming console is a luxury item not a necessity (did I just say that out loud?) - so spending X dollars on any console could be regarded as a waste of money by someone of a more thrifty nature.

On the topic of Live Arcade, my wife came how the day after I got the 360 ( and 3 games ) and found me playing Geometry Wars. She was actually pretty ticked, she asked me "Why the fuck are you playing this stuff? Isnt the new stuff good???". She just couldnt understand why I would be playing a retro game when I had 3 brand new ones to play.

Basically, it boiled down to I was playing PGR3 ( great fun btw... ) and started playing Geometry wars in the garage. After restarting 4 or 5 times ( its got a three minute time limit ), I quit and went straight to Live to download the full version. When she got home, it was intermission between periods in the hockey game I was watching... what better way to killing 10 minutes here or there?

So, to prove a point, I downloaded bejewelled2 for her and handed her the controller and went out for a bit. Got back about 1 1/2 hours later and she's still playing it. She's getting all jazzed about the fact she was ranked in the top 100 or whatever on Live, etc... A few minutes later, she apologizes for her reaction to me playing geo wars.

Trust me, these little quicky games can be downright addictive. Although I think Hexic (sp?) is pure ass. Ive only played it about 5 minutes but it seemed kinda lame.

Oh... and now I fight with the wife to play the damn system. That was a serious retard move on my behalf. I have two HD capable TVs in the house so thats never been an issue ( although ones only 20" ). I NEVER thought I would have to fight to use the Xbox 360.

I'm no xbox fanboy, but I'm a hardcore online gamer. When it comes right down to it, this is the system that will cater to my needs. I do love a good RPG, or a good fighting game that I'm sure only the Playstation will be able to provide, but my true passion is killing my best friend over the internet. There is truly nothing better. This is THE perfect way to make me pay twice what I would for a system. I want Smash TV real bad.

Oh... and now I fight with the wife to play the damn system. That was a serious retard move on my behalf.

I share your pain. My wife, bless her, is very receptive my hobby and likes to get a taste for it so she can understand it (and me) better. God I love that woman.

However, when she finds a game she likes she becomes utterly obsessed. It's quite an alarming transformation. I used to try and get my sister to play games - no joy until Dune II on the PC - then she wouldn't leave my PC alone. More recently she practically bought a new PC just to play Sims2 based on how much she enjoyed it's prequel. Hell, even my 61 year old mom is hooked on games now and insists on playing an hour of Tetris every day and has since bought a notebook PC *and* a GBA SP to control her fix.

Is it me? Are all the women I know secret games addicts? Does this ever happen to anyone else?

Serapth

Is it me? Are all the women I know secret games addicts? Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I think women are just more driven to extremes then men. A guy may play 2-3 hours of something like Everquest a night, for an entire year. Where as, the few women I knew that played Everquest, would play it 8+ hours a day, for months until they burned out on it, then never play again.

The other wierd thing ive seen with Women and gaming, is the emotion levels attached. The women I knew in MMORPGs would take things that happened in the game VERY personally in real life. I even see it in my own wife. Watching her play PGR is an exercise in pain, she gets SOOOOO pissed off at the xbox. Seriously, she starts screaming at the fucking joystick when the game cuts her off ( now... to be fair, the AI in PGR can be really fucking annoying... ). Not saying guys dont get emotional while gaming, but I think women can and do get much more attached to the game on an emotional level that most guys dont approach.

Hey... they are crazy, but we need 'em to keep the species going! :)

DISCLAIMER: My wife is a pretty calm person. Granted, she does suffer the occasional road rage.

You know MS is having a rough launch when we're getting excited about retro arcade games and glancing over the puny launch lineup.

However, it is good to see Red Cloak is at least temporarily suspending his Sony bashing to post a gushing review of a game released 10 years ago, but is somehow special because its on a Microsoft console.

So uh... yeah you guys can just stay over there and spend $400 dollars to play Smash TV, and I'll be over here playing Shadow of the Colossus, and soon Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3's launch.

Quick games are awesome! Sometimes I just want to relax a bit, unwind, and not get caught up into anything big. Just something simple that I can pick up and play, and then put down five or ten minutes later. The Live Arcade does this for me... though often I find myself playing for hours <.<

HAHAHA.. those pesky fanboys....Quit bitching moron... damn, I don't know why some has to be angry because someone likes to play x or y game.. or x or y console. I'm sure that everyone who bought the 360 is having a good time now. (well except for those who have a bad 360).

I think the 360 is not going to be launched here any time soon (you think australians are poor bastards?, you really sure don't know a Colombian relase date for any electronic device), but i think that when the system launches here, i will buy it. I have to say that playing Smash TV co-op online without having to plonk hundreds of dollars in quarters into the machine is awesome...

Granted, so far the Live Arcade is looking like the most appealing thing to me on the 360 at the moment, so I guess I would have plonked my hundreds of dollars worth of quarters into it, only this time in one lump sum...

Sigh.
