Pro-G has a hands-on preview (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/previews/pid/828/135/) of 2K Games’ Top Spin 2 due for the Xbox 360 early in 2006.

As to what the game played like, well, it's tennis. This is no revolution of the genre, nor was it ever promised to be - it's Top Spin, but a little bit more. The game felt slightly sluggish to control (although this was apparently due to the code not being optimised, so could well be sorted for release), and the 'risk' shots that were one of the unique selling points of the original title weren't present either. This left only the basic shot selections, which all worked as you would expect. Control with the 360 pad was comfortable, and everything worked as it should.

The only thing I missed from the first Top Spin when compared to Virtua Tennis (well, Tennis 2k2, which was the definitive version) was having doubles matches in the career mode. Of course, that wasn't what needed the most improvement. The absolute worst things about Top Spin (and I'd understand the point of view that they were gamebreakers) were the load times and the slow interface speed - in particular, the shopping mechanism was just atrocious.

Top Spin is definitely worthwhile now (for the Xbox at $15-20, though I've heard bad things about the PS2 version), but its $40 cost when I bought it was probably too much for anyone but serious tennis fans. I'll just hold out hope that they take the time to get it right for the 360 version.

I was never actually much of a tennis fan myself, but I took a chance on Virtua Tennis and loved it. I never picked up Top Spin which was supposedly the heir apparent. I may dabble in this though.
