PaidContent.org reports (http://www.paidcontent.org/pc/arch/2005_11_22.shtml#052519):
MTV Networks has made its second acquisition in the broadband video space, after buying out iFilm: it has acquired online gaming video site GameTrailers.com (http://www.gametrailers.com/). GameTrailers is a producer and aggregator of broadband video content covering the video games market. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
GameTrailers.com and its accompanying site, GT.TV, will continue to operate as stand-alone destinations. Jon Slusser, CEO of GameTrailers, will continue to run the site and join MTV Networks as VP of the GameTrailers business.

Everything MTV has ever had to do with games has irritated me to no end. Same as basically everhthing they have ever done. I did like some Beavis and Butthead years ago though I believe. This game trailers thing smells of "bad" right now.

Gee, what bad news. If I had ever heard of that site before, I might have cared. As is, don't know, don't care. Good luck and thanks for all the fish.

I feel sorry that you have not heard of GameTrailers. It is probably the best place on the net to find game videos. They always have every video in multiple formats and at the highest resolution it is available. Best of all it is completely free and the download speeds are fast (at least for me). It will be a shame if it is raped by MTV, as right now it is simple and fast.

Hey. Don't knock Sifl and Olly. MTV did them right for a short period, before they realized that they didn't need the 18-49M demo.
Maybe they're gunning for us again. It seems to come in cycles.

MTV's true life of professional gamer special wasnt bad. MTV portraying gamers as intelligent, competitive and socially competent isnt the worst thing in the world, even if its mixed with some urban gansta marketing.

5 bucks says that next week all the trailers have turned into reality shows.

Heh... I think MTV will leave the site well enough alone, except you can expect more advertisments and pop-ups. Probably will make the hard sell and give most of the premium space to all the mainsteam games like HALO and Madden. Oh, and bastardized 1337 will most likely make an apperance in some descriptions as well "This game is teh r0xx0r man!!! Download now!!!"

Fuck........this means we'll have to register and sit through tonnes of ads before viewing trailers now.

God, I hope so.
Oh man, I thought I was the only one who remembered Sifl and Olly. Fucking awesome show. If they bring back Liquid TV/Aeon Flux/The Maxx I will praise MTV until the day I die.

P.S. My sister is hosting the CPL finals with TRL, on (MTV Overdrive right now) and airs on Sat. We will both be on TRL tomorrow in the countdown somewhere (Host Damien came down to Texas to film with PMS!) :)

I like GameTrailers.com - does pretty much what it says on the tin. They have a good assortment of hi-def videos too. Even some of their reviews aren't too bad.
I can't imagine that MTV's involvement won't mean more ad on the site and in the media they host (or, at least, have a pay for no ads, free with ads option).
Anyone remember Cyber Hippy Vision (CHV.NET)? Now *that* was a site for game vids!

Pity, I really liked that site. It was pretty hot during the E3.

I'm sure the MTV sale is probably old news by now, but I stumbled upon this thread and wanted to say something briefly about the future of Gametrailers.com.
I'm the Media Director and one of the original founders of Gametrailers, and I can assure you that GT is only going to get better. Getting MTV on board was not about posting episodes of The Real World or Punk'd on our site. MTV realizes their video game coverage is being done by people who don't understand games, so we'll slowly be building more resources to deliver more trailers, reviews, interviews, features, event coverage, and more. And it will always be free.
