As promised EA/DICE have released the new patch for Battlefield 2, and its Special Forces expansion pack. This update brings your retail game to v1.12 and makes Battlefield 2 compatible with the expansion, as well as adding a few fixes.

Fixed a crash when users switch weapons using the mouse wheel while piloting a bomber (SU-34, F-15 and J10) in core BF2 maps.
Removed the Grappling Hook and the Zip Line from kits from "The Iron Gator" map.
Fixed single player loading screens to match map selection image.
Fixed an issue in the menus so that users can click on BF2:SF ribbons to view the descriptions.
Fixed an issue in the Browser so that BF2:SF servers are now represented with a green "2" icon.
Global improvement of collision detection on the Grappling Hook and the Zip Line.
Fixed damage state artillery icon on the 3d map when an artillery is destroyed.
Get the Battlefield 2 v1.12 patch (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=30073) (280mb) over at WorthPlaying.

Editor: How much faith have you got left in ya? Enough for one more patch?

I cannot get enough of this damn game. Still holding out on the SF expansion though.

They SERIOUSLY need to fix the fucking loading times though. I've wanted to slap the freaking coders about with a trout for a while now because it takes minutes to get into a Multiplayer game.

2gb of RAM on XP does wonders for load times. I am one of the first 3 on any map and I can sometimes cap before the other teams even spawns ;)

FYI If you have had a LOT of BF2 crashes check your Hard Drive Drivers under XP. One person had his SATA drive revert to PIO mode because of BF2 crashes.

When the game works, it's the best online experience I've ever had. It works about 85% of the time.

And yeah - fix the god damn load times. Perhaps they aren't capable of that - BF1942 still took several minutes to load a map with a gig of ram.

2 gigs of nice fast ram and you will not have long times.

Yep, it's the RAM. I added 2 gigs and am now always among the first 5 players to get in.

Yeah, I have 2 gigs of really fast ram and it loads quickly.

So there is a new BF2 patch.

Anyone wonder what massive game-crashing bug this patch adds?

280 MB?!!! Those seemed like precious few bug fixes to require 280 megs.

That sums it up nicely for me, too. When everything is working, and your team pulls together, the game is amazing.

Best part for me is a voicecomm squad in an attack copter, me piloting and with a gunner who knows wtf he is doing. Wake Island is great for that, playing the chinese. We hold back, middle of bay, with the trees on the usmc arty island screening us from the aa on the same island. Then we proceed to stick a tv missile in every single helicopter that comes off the carrier, using the turret to take out the boats. Online gaming nirvana, lol.

Hitting a full blackhawk with a tv missile is almost as good as sex, and a lot less messy.

Supposedly, you can actually use the new SF weapons on your orginal BF2 maps. So I think the map includes the new weapons data and graphics for those who are about to receive incoming fire from an BF2: SF player.

They'd have to do something like this for current maps, to allow both sets of customers to play on same servers.

You probably can't spawn with the new kits, but you can kill somebody and pick their kit up(cool, lol). I imagine sf players are going to be hunted like dogs by non-sf players, if only to try out their guns. I'm hoping it is like this, instead of just letting non-sf players pick sf-specific kits.

Ive got 2 gigs of low cas dual channel ram... the load times still suck. Yeah Im usually the first in the game but regardless, the loads are bullshit.

Did they address the whole killing your teammate because he's red problem? Or that memory leak issue I've been hearing about? This seems like a very minor patch for such a long period of time.

I think the memory leaks were fixed in the first patch. If this patch installed properly, which I doubt, I hope it fixes some things...

Yeah, the accidentally killing your teammate cuz he is red bug is a pain in the ass. It always happens the same. I'll be milling around with several of my teammates and I'll look over and there is an enemy soldier walking right through the middle of us! No one will shoot him and I'll think I might be the only one who can see him or I'm hallucinating or everyone else just didn't notice and I'll gun him down. Then he'll respawn and start yelling at me and I'll realize. Pain in the butt.

i hope i dont play with you. if that scenario happens to you a lot, you need to get your eyes checked. i understand it if you gun a red name down from far away, but not in close quarters with your team mates around...

I hope Random is right about the SF weapons. If so that might serve as incentive for others to buy it.

I get by with 1Gb of RAM, and I'm usually one of the first five to get in a map. One of the biggest performance improvements I've made in BF2 is to put your page file on another HDD (not just partition, but literally another physical HDD). It's perhaps most visible when you quit BF2 and it doesnt take a minute to unload.

Anyway, if anyone bought it let us know how it works (I wont get to check until later this evening).

SF is awesome. I played about an HOUR alone just toying with the grappling hook. I went from a tall building, to an even taller building next door. Throw the hook from roof to roof, run, dive, climb, repeat. So fun.

This game is going to be ninja freaking central.

My only complaint, is that aside from the new auxiliary gear (zipline, grapple hook, gas grenades, and flashbangs), only USA and Britain have the new guns, which I think is pretty goddamn retarded. So, I expect a lot of people to not be playing Russia, MEC, or Insurgents nearly as much.

The interface is ass the load times are fucking retarded but damn the crew from desert combat knew what they were doing. Its great Im totaly addicted. Loving this game and Ill be picking up the expansion asasp. ALthough only giving the brits and americans special wepaons is reatrded.

The Trauma Studios crew (DC folks) didn't work on BF2. They were working on future products using the BF2 tech. That is, until BF2 was released and DICE canned em. It really seems as if DICE bought Trauma (probably with money from EA) to keep them from updating DC so people would be more willing to go buy BF2 when it was released.

Thats a total outrage. When Im playing BF2 All i can think of is how DC it is only more polished. What a shame that they would just buy out those fuckers and not exploit the mad skillz that crew possesses. They just ripped off the DC mod for a sequel.

It seems to me that you can use SF equipment on BF2 standard servers vs people that don't have the expansion.

If that's the case, I'm so freakin' buying it.

Can someone with the SF expansion confirm? Can you play with Vanilla BF2 players on the same map and use your sweet kit?

Hopefully this patch fixes up the no big red skull sign over friendly claymores, AT mines.

then being teampunished two seconds later, even if they did see the big skull, even if they could walk around the thing.
for some reason its better to die, punish and try the same route again.

but i can only hope.

I work for DICE sweden. The New York studio where the Tramua guys worked simply wasn't a good business decision to keep open after the dev work for bf2 was done. If you've read anything about the closure of the studio you know that all of the employees were offered positions with DICE in other locations. The simple fact is that they chose not to accept those positions and instead it seems they have gone off on their own again to develop either a mod or a game independantly.
