Harry Potter was badass, good to see a good movie taking some cash in.

I liked it too. A solid Potter adventure from start to finish. They lost a bit of Hermione's charm by playing her so high strung, but Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman stole the entire show. I did like the way that Mad Eye Moody was played too. Great, great casting there.

I saw it as well, pretty decent. No complaints here.

Was it just me or was Alan Rickman bearly in it?

Goblet of Fire is still the best book (do I even need to add "IMO"?), so I'm glad to see people enjoying the movie. I hope to see it over Thanksgiving.

Great movie... totally agree with you Wadmassi, I consider Fire the best of the Potter books. Half-blood Prince is fantastic as well. Book 5 is the only weak one for me... still enjoyed it, just not as gripping as the others.

I'm kind of split on Goblet... it was the first one where I read the book before seeing the film, so unlike the first three films I was distracted by the omissions and changes from the book. I think I'll have to go back and watch it again now that I know not to expect anything about Fleur's heritage or house elves or any of the other stuff I can't really mention without giving away minor spoilers.

Took the family to see it over the weekend, and was a big hit. Definately lived up to the hype, and stayed true enough to the story to get a thumbs up from me.
Looking forward to the next already.

Do you need to see the earlier Potter movies to get much out of the new one? I haven't read the books and haven't seen the other movies. My girlfriend says it's because I'm a snob. She may be right. Don't hate me -- unless you must.

The only part of the Harry Potter that irritated me was the dance scene. I really think that it killed the momentum of the movie. It was way to 80's teen dance movie for me.
Other than that it was the best movie so far and really brings up some great possibilities for the future. The action scenes were really good as well as the basic plotline.

I saw Pride and Prejudice with the lady it was a good movie. I was a bit skeptical about a shorter version with Kiera Knightley they did a good job. I still prefer the BBC 6 hour version, but this'd nicely if time was an issue.
Yes, Pride and Prejudice is a period drama, with an excellent plot and character developement. If you can't appreciate it: sucks to be you!

He was in four scenes, but those four scenes were all amazing. The first one, especially. It takes an amazing actor to still have a powerful presence with that little material, and Rickman did. Hence my original assertion.

As a film, I place it behind the third one, as an adaption, I place it last. It certainly had more character and imagination that either of the Chris Colombus features, but if they had given us an extra 10 or 20 minutes they could have fleshed outt he characters just that little bit more and put a fairly decent ending on it too. It just seemed very abrupt. I'll keep the spoilers off of this thread anyway.
On the plus side, Gleeson and Fiennes were excellent, I was actually surprised by Radcliffe too as he really quite excelled himself in this and the last film. I had all but given up on him being the smiling mischievous moppet after the first 2. Also all the main events were well paced and shot, but what happened around those events, for the most part seemed like an afterthought.

<Spoiler Alert>
I didn't mind them leaving out Hermione and her efforts to emancipate the House Elves, but I think it was wrong for them to edit out the Rita Skeeter storyline so that she's just an annoyance.
But, all in all, it kept to the feel and darkness of the book very well.

Goblet of Fire gets a big meh from me. The movie was like watching a slideshow of the book. If I hadn't read the book I never would have known what was going on. I thought they wased a lot of time with stupid crap like the visiting schools entrance dances that they could have used to flesh out the story a little. Also, everyone seemed a little too intense, a little too "Anakin" if you ask me.

My thoughts exactly about Prisoner of Azkaban. Hence, I have been reluctant to go see Goblet so far. Hopefully I will like it more, but it doesn't sound like it from Wokapto's take. :(

Yeah, there's certainly a want of actual plot in this film, but I don't think it will suffer as much as PoA did. I thought they really missed out on filling us in. Even 5 more minutes could have helped a lot.
Still, I think that the story of GoF although stripped down was done in a way that it's not as comfusing. However, you may be left scratching your head over the significance of some fo the supporting cast and the whole 3 seconds onscreen that they are given.

Spoiler ridden post!!! beware
Goblet of Fire is my fav. of the books and I was pretty disappointed with this movie. I'm not sure why everyone here seems to hate Prisoner of Azkaban, as I thought it was the best of the movies so far.
GoF pretty much was a slideshow of the book, except they forgot the best of the slides. How do you lead into the Quidditch world Cup like that and then not show a single second of the game? Abrupt to say the least.
Also couldn't they have at least hinted at what happened with the others during their dragon battles? I suppose not when they cheaped out and didn't even show models of the other dragons. Seemed like a lot of the cuts were decided based on how to get out as cheaply as possible.
I took a friend who hasn't read the books, but has seen the other movies. He had no idea what was going on. Only when I described what was going on the way home did he put it together. I say bring back Alfonso Cuaron.

I get the feeling a bit of Rita Skeeter got cut for time's sake. If they intended to downplay the 'attention seeking liar' subplot so heavily, it seems pointless to have included her. Similarly with the quidditch world cup. I'm guessing they couldn't get the fx shots for the world cup done on time, given the number of fx shots needed.
better left out than lame imo.
It was a good movie.

a little late on this post. but I loved it overall.. sure he made it super snappy, but hell its brilliant to actually make a 2.5+ hour film feel rushed! I only wish they could make an extended version ala LOTR that has more of it for the book fans.
I concur for Rickman, that guy is just so awesome in everything.
I understand about the dragons and we were all dissapointed. But just think, if they did those battles with Harry last, would you be at all exited for his scene? Just visualize 4 fucking dragon battles in a row, that would make it much slower and less triumphant and more along the doddling of the first 2 movies. Holy crap the dragon physics were so awesome. You could totally see the weight of him. No cheese there.
I totally agree they should have shown at least SOME of the beginning match though.
The most dissapointing thing they left out for me was the flashback with the younger snape, potter, and black. That's where you learn a little more of snape and why hes a bitter bastard. Oh well. Bring on the 3.5 hr extended cut!
btw the singer of the band at the dance was the guy from Pulp.
time to see it at IMAX.

Page three (of this thread) nailed most points about the movie. I didn't read the books but I have friends fill me in. So one thing that wasn't covered in the movie that should have been was the wands of harry and he who shall not be named. I mean I got the impression that the great dark arts master was just fluff if he could let harry equal, if not spank him.
