Major Nelson (http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/12/21/xbox-360-virtual-fireplace.aspx) updated his blog this evening linking to a new way to utilize your wonderful high definition gaming device. You can now turn your 360 and HDTV to create a pretend fireplace (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/00000001-0000-4000-8000-00005855014c) for a mere 400 microsoft points. Add in some Perry Como and Bing Crosby, and you've got yourself some 1980's-style holiday cheer.

Oh, and before you get your pitchforks and real torches, this was an XNA project created by some dude named SniperED007.

Yes, its too expensive, but at least its got a demo (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8025855014c/?p=1&of=1&sb=1#offers).

Jeez, I really have to start doing some XNA projects if they're going to have the balls to charge this much. This should have been 80 points at best. I bet you on PSN this would have been 99 cents.

Only worth it if it also stresses the CPU and video cores to 100% for maximum heat output :D

"Which is to say Christmas, as in Yule. Yule log. Not a log. I don't have a log, but I mean, you know, if I had a log. Not in the sense you think you think I said I did. Good golly. Tis the season to be merry."

Thats... unbelievable. Every time I see this kind of stuff it encourages me to speed up my XNA project...

If anyone's buying, you might make some dough.

But seriously, though? Of all the things I could spend 400 points on . . . a Yule Log isn't one. I could just get the "Burning Log" DVD at Wal-Mart for cheaper, probably.

The 80s is when the first VHS fire tape burst on the scene. Warming the hearts and bringing good cheer to white trash everywhere!

Got got it, So if you dont have a fireplace your white trash correct? We need to do a poll to see who has a fireplace that way we can point out the white trash on this site.

Or am i just missing something?

Not having a fire place doesn't make you white trash. Putting a fake fire place on your TV does. :p

and it's not that you're missing something, it's that you're being overly sensitive.

They need to put this in HD this year. I want my eyes to burn out from the clarity.

Sadly, I'm tempted to pick this up so I can put it on in the middle of July when a friend comes over, purely to confuse and/or confound them.

It is in HD this year, as it was last year...at least in the Baltimore market. It's pretty neat, actually...and way better than this 360 ripoff. I don't even think I'd use it if it were free...
